Abstract

This study aims to identify the species of the Zingiberaceae family found in the Durin Serugun Village Forest and determine their potential use by the local community, especially in the food and health sectors. The methods used were field exploration, interviews with the Karo people, phytochemical tests to detect secondary metabolites in Zingiberaceae rhizomes, and dendogram analysis to determine the phylogenetic relationships between species. The results showed that there are 13 Zingiberaceae species with morphological characteristics and secondary metabolite content such as alkaloids, saponins, tannins, and flavonoids. The community uses rhizomes for traditional medicine to treat various diseases and as a kitchen spice. Dendogram analysis divided the species into two main clusters that reflect morphological similarities and phylogenetic relationships. This study provides an overview of traditional uses as well as the conservation value of Zingiberaceae diversity in the area.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze and compare total nitrogen levels and soil pH at two chili cultivation sites at the IP2MP Gurgur Experimental Garden, Tampahan District, North Sumatra. Sampling was conducted purposively at two different locations: the center of the field with wilted chili plants and the surrounding area with normally growing plants. Total nitrogen levels were analyzed using the Kjeldahl method, while soil pH was measured using electrometry. The results showed that total nitrogen levels at site 1 were 0.20% (low), while at site 2 they were 0.26% (moderate). The soil pH at site 1 was 7.56 (neutral to slightly alkaline) and at site 2 it was 7.95 (alkaline). These differences in nitrogen levels and soil pH affected chili plant growth, with plants at site 2 showing better growth than those at site 1. Variations in nitrogen levels and soil pH are important factors influencing chili plant growth, necessitating proper soil fertility management to increase land productivity.

Abstract

Kemampuan berpikir kritis merupakan salah satu keterampilan penting yang harus dimiliki siswa dalam pembelajaran IPA abad ke-21, namun pada kenyataannya kemampuan tersebut masih tergolong rendah karena pembelajaran yang cenderung berpusat pada guru dan kurang memanfaatkan media pembelajaran interaktif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model Problem Based Learning (PBL) berbantuan aplikasi Solar System Scope terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada materi Sistem Tata Surya, serta mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis pada tiap indikator setelah penerapan model tersebut. Penelitian dilaksanakan di UPT SMP Negeri 29 Medan pada tahun ajaran 2025/2026 dengan menggunakan metode quasi experiment dan desain Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. Populasi penelitian berjumlah 256 siswa kelas VII, sedangkan sampel penelitian terdiri atas dua kelas dengan total 64 siswa yang dipilih sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes kemampuan berpikir kritis yang diberikan melalui pre-test dan post-test. Berdasarkan hasil uji hipotesis menggunakan Independent Samples t-test yang menunjukkan nilai signifikansi (Sig. 2-tailed) sebesar 0,000, lebih kecil dari taraf signifikansi 0,05 (0,000 < 0,05), sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari penerapan model Problem Based Learning (PBL) berbantuan aplikasi Solar System Scope terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis pada kelas eksperimen berada pada kategori sedang dan tinggi. Indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis dengan pencapaian tertinggi pada kelas eksperimen adalah Strategy and Tactics sebesar 74%, sedangkan pada kelas kontrol sebesar 58%. Dengan demikian, model PBL berbantuan aplikasi Solar System Scope efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada materi Sistem Tata Surya.
