Abstract

The Ciliwung River is one of the most polluted rivers in Indonesia, which is caused by low public awareness in maintaining environmental cleanliness. This service activity aims to increase the awareness of children living around the Ciliwung River on environmental issues through an educational approach based on storytelling. The method used is community education by instilling environmental conservation values in an interactive and fun way. Through stories, children are invited to understand the impact of pollution and the importance of protecting the river ecosystem. The results of the activity showed the high enthusiasm of the participants, as well as the emergence of new enthusiasm and awareness in maintaining environmental cleanliness. This approach proved to be effective in fostering awareness from an early age, so that it is expected to form a generation that cares more about the preservation of the environment around them.

Abstract

Abstract

Motivation is an internal drive that compels an individual to take action and maintain behavior consistently. This study aims to reveal the relationship between student-teacher interaction and the learning motivation of twelfth-grade students at SMA Pertiwi 1 Padang. A descriptive quantitative approach was used, with convenience sampling involving 84 students as subjects. The instruments employed were a learning motivation scale developed by Hamzah (2011) and a student-teacher interaction scale adapted from the Questionnaire Teacher Interaction (QTI). Data were analyzed using Pearson’s Product Moment correlation technique. The results show that there is no significant relationship between student-teacher interaction and students’ learning motivation. The correlation coefficient was 0.183 for positive interaction and 0.166 for negative interaction, indicating that neither form of interaction had a significant impact on students' learning motivation. These findings suggest that students’ responses to teacher interaction were suboptimal, and other factors beyond student-teacher interaction are more influential in shaping learning motivation. The conclusion of this study is that although student-teacher interaction is an important component of the learning process, in this context, it has not significantly driven learning motivation. The implication of this research is the need to evaluate the interaction approaches used by teachers and to explore other factors that more broadly influence student motivation.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between self-esteem and problematic internet use (PIU) among high school students in West Sumatra. A correlational quantitative approach was used with purposive sampling. The study involved 357 students who met the criterion of using the internet for more than five hours per day. The research instruments were validated self-esteem and PIU scales. Data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed a significant negative relationship between self-esteem and PIU (r = -0.642; p < 0.05), indicating that the lower the self-esteem, the higher the tendency for students to engage in problematic internet use, and vice versa. These findings suggest that low self-esteem may be a risk factor for uncontrolled internet use behavior. The conclusion of this study is that self-esteem plays an important role in preventing excessive internet use, which can negatively affect students’ psychological well-being. The implications of this study highlight the need for self-esteem enhancement interventions in school guidance and counseling programs to reduce the risk of PIU among adolescents.

Abstract

Bullying is a recurring issue among adolescents, particularly in school environments, and has drawn serious attention from various stakeholders, including the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (Komisi Perlindungan Anak Indonesia, KPAI). This study aims to analyze the relationship between peer attachment and bullying behavior among junior high school students. A quantitative approach was employed, using a questionnaire distributed to 261 students from several junior high schools in Padang City. The sample was selected using a simple random sampling technique, based on the Isaac and Michael table with a 5% margin of error. The results show that students’ level of peer attachment falls within the high category (44.4% or 116 students), while bullying behavior is in the low category (52.9% or 138 students). Correlation analysis reveals a weak negative relationship between peer attachment and bullying behavior (r = -0.128), with validity coefficients ranging from 0.807–0.792 for peer attachment and 0.761–0.740 for bullying behavior. These findings indicate that higher levels of peer attachment are associated with a lower tendency to engage in bullying, and vice versa. This study contributes to the broader understanding of relational factors in the prevention of bullying behavior among adolescents.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between assertiveness and the defender-type bystander response in bullying situations among elementary school students in Pariaman Tengah Subdistrict. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was used, focusing on how assertive behavior influences students’ tendency to act as defenders in bullying cases. Purposive sampling was employed to select research participants, involving 222 students from several public elementary schools in the region. Data were collected using an assertiveness questionnaire and the Short Bullying Bystander Scale (SBBS) from the Participant Role Questionnaire, and analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation technique. The results show a low but significant positive relationship between assertiveness and defender-type bystander response (r = 0.378; p < 0.05). This finding indicates that the higher a student’s level of assertiveness, the greater their tendency to intervene and defend victims of bullying. The study concludes that fostering assertive behavior is a key intervention strategy in encouraging prosocial responses to bullying, and in empowering students to become active contributors to a safe and inclusive school environment.

Abstract

University students are in a phase of self-discovery, during which a hedonistic lifestyle can influence their self-perception. This study aims to analyze the relationship between a hedonistic lifestyle and self-esteem among Generation Z students at a private university in Jakarta. The research employs a quantitative method with a correlational approach, where data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 270 students using purposive sampling techniques. The hedonistic lifestyle was measured using the Hedonistic Lifestyle Scale (Engel et al., 1994), while self-esteem was measured using the Self-Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1965). The results indicate a significant positive relationship between a hedonistic lifestyle and self-esteem, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.683 and a significance level of p < 0.05. These findings suggest that students with a hedonistic lifestyle tend to have higher self-esteem. Overall, the study shows that the majority of Generation Z students at the private university in Jakarta exhibit both high self-esteem and a high hedonistic lifestyle.

Abstract

The phenomenon of online gambling among adolescents has been widely examined from psychological and social perspectives, yet studies that specifically investigate the relationship between self-regulation and conformity in the context of online gambling remain limited. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between self-regulation and conformity to online gambling among adolescents in Padang Barat Subdistrict, Padang City. A quantitative approach with a survey design was employed, involving 100 male adolescents aged 12–20 years selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a four-point Likert-scale questionnaire measuring self-regulation and conformity to online gambling and were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed a strong and significant negative relationship between self-regulation and conformity to online gambling (r = −0.658; p < 0.05), indicating that the higher the level of self-regulation possessed by adolescents, the lower their tendency to conform to online gambling behaviors in their social environment. These findings provide a theoretical contribution to the literature on self-regulation and conformity in digital-based deviant behaviors, as well as practical implications for efforts to prevent online gambling among adolescents. Strengthening self-regulation through the roles of families, schools, and the social environment is deemed important as a preventive strategy to reduce online gambling behavior among adolescents.
