Abstract

Environmental science e-books that focus on conceptual change are educational resources that offer firsthand knowledge and complement environmental science lectures. This study aims to describe the design of the e-book, the responses of the validators, and the students' responses after the e-book was used as teaching material. The type of research conducted was Research and Development (R&D) with modifications to the Dick and Carey model, which includes three stages, namely the planning stage, the development stage, and the implementation stage. The development procedures included problem identification, data collection, e-book design, design validation, e-book revision, and product testing. The concept change-oriented environmental science e-book was designed per the format of a textbook consisting of four components: the book's exterior, the front part of the textbook, the content part, and the back part. This e-book is valid, practical, and effective, making it suitable as an independent learning resource for students. The linguistic validation results show that this e-book is valid with a score of 0.75. In a small group trial, this e-book was rated practical and effective with a percentage of 95.05%. In a large group trial, this e-book was also rated practical and effective with a percentage of 95.89%.

Abstract

The teaching of plant taxonomy in Indonesia still faces limitations in the availability of teaching materials that are relevant to local conditions, requiring the development of contextual learning resources that are appropriate to local potential and meaningful. This study addresses the scarcity of specialized, locally relevant teaching materials for the Lower Plant Taxonomy course. We developed a reference book, "The Charm of Macroscopic Fungi in Lubuklinggau," to serve as a valid, practical, and effective teaching aid. This resource uses a nature exploration approach to connect students with local biodiversity, reinforcing learning aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically targets 4 (Quality Education) and 15 (Life on Land). The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4-D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). Expert validation confirmed the book's quality, with subject matter experts rating it "excellent" (score: 34), and media and language experts rating it "good" (scores: 39 and 34, respectively). Pilot testing on students showed the book's effectiveness in improving understanding, with normalized gain (N-gain) scores predominantly in the moderate to high categories. Our findings demonstrate that integrating local ecological potential and active learning strategies, such as nature exploration, is an effective way to improve biology education while promoting sustainability

Abstract

One of Indonesia extinct fauna which is still found in South Sumatra but less explored is reptile. Testudinata or chelonians are examples of turtles. Aur Lake has a lot of potential issues with various species, often finding them on the shores of Aur Lake. However, those turtles do not know yet what types of species. The high intensity of catching and decreasing environmental quality can also be a threat to the existence of turtles. This research is titled "The Study of Morphology and Diversity of the Turtles in Aur Lake Musi Rawas Regency. At the Aur Lake, Musirawas. The design of this study is descriptive qualitative with survey methods: Turtles were identified based on morphology, carapace, plastron, head, tail, feet and were identified there are 4 species and total 11 individuals comprising 5 of species Siebenrockiella crassicollis (Geomydidae), 1 Amyda cartilaginea (Trionichidae), 4 Cuora amboinensis (Geomydidae), and 1 Trachemys scripta (Emydidae). The diversity level (H') was obtained 1.162225545, and the evenness level was 0.838368515. The implication of this research was to provide information about the diversity of turtles around the Aur Lake stream in Musirawas Regency then strive to maintain the turtle's natural habitat in order to avoid the exploitation of animals and Aur Lake can be used as learning centers for student to study about biodiversity turtles and turtles conservation ex-situ and in-situ.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyse the implementation of research article writing assignments in the Lower Plant Taxonomy course and evaluate its impact on the development of students' critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as scientific writing abilities. The model used was Research-Based Learning (RBL) integrated with field exploration (Nature Exploration). The method employed was a descriptive research approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative methods. The research sample consisted of 29 third-semester students in Biology Education, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected from the assessment of research article assignments based on RPS criteria, as well as semi-structured interviews with lecturers and students. Quantitative data were analysed descriptively, while qualitative data were analysed thematically to identify obstacles. The results showed that the implementation of RBL, structured in three phases (Exploration, Communication Interaction, and Reflection), was generally effective in improving competency. Most students, with an achievement rate of over 80%, achieved excellent performance, especially in the technical and structural aspects of writing, such as the preparation of the Research Methodology (92%) and the Suitability of the Bibliography (95%). However, significant obstacles were found in aspects that require critical analysis and in-depth argumentation, characterised by 17% of shallow Discussion errors and 13% of incomplete Data Analysis errors. Interviews confirmed that the main obstacles were limited guidance time, difficulty in determining original topics, and lack of confidence in developing theoretical arguments. The conclusion of this study confirms that PBR has successfully fostered research literacy and scientific attitudes. Its effectiveness needs to be improved through optimising guidance time, strengthening theoretical literacy, and providing special training to develop data analysis and argumentation skills. This model is relevant as an innovative curriculum for preparing prospective biology teachers who are reflective and research-oriented.
