Abstract

Interprofessional collaboration among nurses is vital for effective healthcare, yet its influencing factors in regional hospitals remain underexplored. This study aimed to examine the effects of demographic characteristics, work experience, and workplace culture on interprofessional collaboration. A cross-sectional study was conducted in a public hospital in Banten Province, Indonesia and involved 230 registered nurses selected through purposive sampling. Data collected via structured questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, and multiple linear regression. The regression model was statistically significant (F=38.47, p<0.001), explaining 52% of the variance (R2=0.52). Workplace culture was the strongest predictor (β = 0.45, p < 0.001), followed by work experience (β = 0.28, p < 0.001). Education level (β = 0.12, p = 0.042) and work unit (β = 0.10, p = 0.046) had small but significant effects, while age and gender were not significant. The findings indicate that supportive workplace culture and professional experience are important factors associated with stronger interprofessional collaboration among nurses. Hospital management may strengthen collaborative practices through mentorship programs, continuous professional development, and organizational initiatives that promote teamwork and communication.

Abstract

Background: Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC) enhances the quality and safety of healthcare by integrating the expertise of multiple health professionals; however, its implementation in hospital settings is often hindered by barriers such as ineffective communication, unclear professional roles, hierarchical dominance, and unsupportive workplace culture. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between demographic characteristics, work experience, and workplace culture and the implementation of IPC among nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional quantitative study design was employed to examine the association between demographic factors, work experience, and work culture with IPC implementation among nurses at a general hospital in Banten Province, Indonesia. Eighty nurses were recruited using stratified random sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics with SPSS version 27.0. Results: IPC implementation was significantly associated with age (p = 0.048), education level (p = 0.047), work experience (p < 0.001), and work culture (p < 0.001). Work culture emerged as the most influential factor, with an odds ratio (OR) of 7.429 (95% CI: 2.703–20.419). Conclusion: Both individual demographic factors and organizational context influence nurses’ IPC implementation, with workplace culture being the most influential factor, highlighting the need to foster a collaborative work environment through interprofessional communication training, inclusive decision-making, and supportive institutional policies.

Abstract

Background: Patient safety in the operating room is a critical concern in healthcare delivery. While the Surgical Safety Checklist (SSC) improves safety outcomes, variability persists due to workforce characteristics, work motivation, and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Purpose: To examine associations between staff characteristics, motivation, and SOP compliance with patient safety quality in the operating room, and to identify the most influential factor. Method: A cross-sectional study of all 42 operating room healthcare workers (total sampling). Data were collected through Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed using Chi-Square tests and multiple logistic regression. Results: Education level (p = 0.024), motivation (p = 0.000), and SOP compliance (p = 0.000) were significantly associated with patient safety quality. SOP compliance was the strongest determinant (OR = 234.770; p = 0.001). Conclusion: Adherence to SOP—especially the SSC—is the dominant factor influencing patient safety quality. Interventions should prioritize continuous SOP education, oversight, and cultivation of a robust patient safety culture.

Abstract

ObjectiveTo examine the associations of organizational culture, leadership characteristics, and job satisfaction with organizational commitment among nurses in Indonesian private hospitals.MethodsA cross-sectional correlational study was conducted among 100 registered nurses recruited through purposive sampling from three Indonesian private hospitals.  Organizational culture, leadership characteristics, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment were measured using the Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI), Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ), Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS), and Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ), respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and multiple linear regression.ResultsHierarchy culture had the highest mean score, although the difference from clan culture was minimal. Leadership characteristics and several job satisfaction domains demonstrated significant positive correlations with organizational commitment. In the multiple linear regression analysis, leadership characteristics (β = 0.292, p = 0.001) and communication satisfaction (β = 0.372, p < 0.001) were independently associated with organizational commitment after adjustment for other study variables. Organizational culture dimensions were not independently associated with organizational commitment.ConclusionLeadership characteristics and communication satisfaction were significantly associated with organizational commitment among nurses in Indonesian private hospitals. These findings highlight the potential importance of supportive leadership and effective workplace communication in fostering organizational commitment.  Further studies using longitudinal designs are warranted to confirm these associations.KeywordsJob satisfaction, leadership characteristics, nurses, organizational commitment, organizational culture
