Abstract

Elderly patients face various surgical risks, including complications, slower recovery, prolonged hospital stays, functional decline, and even death. Early ambulation is beneficial in reducing these risks in older adults. However, elderly patients often lack motivation to ambulate due to insufficient understanding and family support, leading to longer bed rest. Aim : To evaluate the impact of early ambulation as an intervention to enhance postoperative recovery in elderly patients. Methods: This is a systematic review study with a PICO approach. Article searches were conducted using online databases such as EBSCO, PubMed, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, and Scopus with the keywords (Elderly OR Older Adult) AND (Post Operative OR Post Surgery) AND (Early Ambulation OR Early Mobilization) AND (Reduce Length of Stay) published between 2014–2024 and The 5 relevant articles were found. Results: Five studies indicated that the implementation of early ambulation programs in elderly surgical patients not only reduces length of stay but also improves functional capacity and decreases the incidence of complications such as pneumonia, atelectasis, and venous thrombosis. Conclusion: The studies show that early mobilization reduces hospital stays, accelerates organ function recovery, and provides psychological benefits, such as reduced postoperative anxiety.

Abstract

Incidents of sexual violence are like an iceberg phenomenon and continue to increase every year. However, this increase is inversely proportional to the rehabilitative efforts provided for victims of sexual violence. The impact of sexual violence is trauma that makes the victim feel helpless. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) is the therapy of choice to treat these impacts. This systematic review aims to determine the implementation and benefits of TF-CBT for trauma victims of sexual violence. The search used seven databases: Scopus, Sage Journals, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, PubMed, Clinical Key, and EBSCOhost. The research design used in the selected articles was three with RCTs, 5 with Quasy experiments, and 2 with cohorts. Selection is based on the criteria of article publication time in the last ten years, providing full text in English. The symptoms measured in trauma cases are PTSD, post-traumatic symptoms, mental problems such as depression, suicide attempts, and behavioral problems. The results showed that TF-CBT positively influenced all of these symptoms. Implementing TF-CBT also involves the role of parents and modifications with culturally sensitive principles. TF-CBT can reduce trauma symptoms. It is hoped that TF-CBT can be used in other trauma cases and apply modification principles that previous researchers have carried out by being culturally sensitive and involving the role of parents.

Abstract

According to 2023 global estimates, approximately 39.9 million individuals were living with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), with 1.3 million new infections reported. Men who have sex with men (MSM) continue to represent a key population at heightened risk. When used consistently, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) has been shown to reduce the risk of HIV transmission by more than 90%. Stigma, limited awareness, and concerns about reduced condom use hinder its effectiveness. This review examines whether PrEP increases or decreases sexual risk behaviors, such as unprotected anal intercourse, among MSM to inform better HIV prevention strategies. Search in PubMed and ScienceDirect identified 585 records, with 26 studies meeting the inclusion criteria after screening and quality assessment using the CASP checklist. Out of these, 14 high-quality articles, including cohort, cross-sectional, and randomized controlled trials, were analyzed. Studies focused on MSM aged 15 and older using PrEP, excluding non-MSM populations, qualitative reports, and reviews. Two reviewers independently screened and extracted the data, resolving the discrepancies through discussion. A narrative synthesis examined patterns of sexual risk behavior and PrEP impact. Subsequently, PrEP significantly reduces HIV transmission but is linked to risk compensation behaviors, such as decreased condom use and increased high-risk sexual activities. Social and cultural factors, including stigma and familism, influence adherence to safe practices. Comprehensive interventions integrating PrEP with education, Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) screening, and psychosocial support are essential. Governments and health providers should prioritize expanding PrEP access, improving adherence support, and integrating condom promotion to achieve greater HIV prevention impact on MSM communities.

Abstract

Background: Aging increases health problems, decreases physical abilities and daily activities that reduce the psychological well-being of the elderly. The aging process is accompanied by psychological problems, such as: increased symptoms of depression, stress, anxiety, and mental well-being problems. Research interventions to improve psychological well-being of elderly have been widely investigated. One of the therapies that has been widely researched and developed is reminiscence therapy, so the research question of the systematic review is how does reminiscence therapy affect psychological well-being of elderly. Purpose: To determine the effect of reminiscence therapy on the psychological well-being of the elderly. Method: A systematic search review of 3 databases: ProQuest, Science Direct, and Wiley Online Library in February 2025 to identify all relevant peer-reviewed journal articles. Based on the search results with the keywords reminiscence therapy and (parents or elderly or elderly) and (psychology of well-being or depression or anxiety or emotional) obtained 63,002. Furthermore, the journal article limiter (scientific journal, the last 5 years 2020-2025, English, nursing psychology journal) obtained 819 articles. Then the screening compiled the title and abstract obtained 23 articles, then the screening by reading the article as a whole obtained 10 articles, after the article criticism/critical assessment was carried out, 8 journals were analyzed in this systematic review. Results: Shows that reminiscence therapy can improve well-being, reduce depression, increase life satisfaction, increase self-esteem, increase meaning in life, increase a sense of cohesion, improve problem-solving skills, reduce anxiety about death, and improve the ability of older adults to adapt to aging.   Conclusion: Reminiscence therapy is effective to improve psychological well-being of the elderly. The application of reminiscence therapy can be carried out in health service practices, both elderly in nursing homes and in the community. Suggestion: It is hoped that a more comprehensive systematic review can be developed by conducting a review of previous literature, searching for articles from various databases, and exploring other sources such as the web and others.

Abstract

Background: Parents of children with intellectual disabilities face a lifelong caregiving responsibility with multidimensional burdens, including chronic stress, financial pressure, and limited culturally sensitive mental health support. Previous studies have focused more on psychological aspects, so the holistic understanding of resilience and cultural dynamics is still limited. Purpose: To examine the experiences of parents in caring for children with intellectual disabilities Method: Literature search using PRISMA guidelines on PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar (2015–2025) with related keywords. Quantitative studies on caregivers of children with intellectual disabilities were selected, while non-parents and non-intelectual disability were excluded. Study selection and methodological quality assessment (Joanna Briggs Institute checklist) were conducted by more than one researcher. Narrative synthesis was applied due to the heterogeneity of the data. Results: Analysis of 10 studies (2,473 participants) revealed high emotional burdens (stress and anxiety) due to children's behavior, stigma, and lack of support. Resilience strategies such as mindful parenting and recreational activities enhance parent-child bonding and self-efficacy. Culture influences coping mechanisms, while father involvement is often hindered by traditional norms. Compared to previous reviews, these findings emphasize cross-cultural resilience and the urgency of community-based gender-inclusive interventions. Conclusion: Caregivers of children with intellectual disabilities demonstrate resilience despite facing complex challenges. Interventions need to integrate psychosocial training, community support, as well as culturally sensitive policies and father participation.
