Abstract

The case of COVID-19 has spread among civil servants in Magelang City. The presence of comorbidities can aggravate the condition so that it can cause death. The social determinants and behavior of CERDIK are one of the factors that can prevent non-communicable or comorbid diseases. The purpose of this study was to see the relationship between social determinants and CERDIK behavior in civil servants on the incidence of comorbidities to handling the covid 19 pandemic in Magelang City. The research method used an explanatory mix method study with a sample of 287 civil servants. Samples were taken by accidental sampling method. Respondents who experienced Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) were 20.9% with the most common type of NCD, that is hypertension at 7.32%. Respondents who do not have regular health checks, who have smoking behavior, do not consume vegetables and fruit, never do physical activity, lack rest and stress of having NCD. The most dominant variable influencing the incidence of NCD in respondents is the age variable. The existence of NCD and risk factors for NCD events can exacerbate the incidence of other diseases, including the presence of COVID-19 cases, so treatment for NCD is needed through Posbindu at the institutional level.

Abstract

The growing number of elderly individuals requiring long-term care (LTC) necessitates caregivers enhancing their understanding of this care through interactive educational methods. As the elderly population grows, caregivers play a crucial role in providing long-term care (LTC) to the elderly and meeting their basic needs, including medical care, psychosocial support, and daily living skills. Interactive educational methods can enhance caregiver knowledge about LTC, enabling them to provide more effective and efficient care, especially for those lacking medical or health knowledge. The purpose of this study is to examine how interactive educational techniques have increased caregivers' understanding of long-term care. The research sample consisted of 11 health cadres in the Ngemplak Community Health Center working area with a purposive sampling technique. Researchers conducted a pre-test and post-test to measure knowledge before and after interactive education about long-term care. Wilcoxon's test results showed a p value of 0.004. There's a meaningful difference in knowledge between pre-interactive education and after interactive education. Caregivers can continue to follow a variety of training or education related to long-term care, be able to identify or screen elderly persons who need long-term care, learn about long-term care for parents on a sustainable basis, and provide long-lasting care to elders that focuses on meeting the basic needs of the elder.

Abstract

Introduction Malnutrition, a critical global health issue, continues to affect vulnerable populations despite advances in healthcare and nutrition science, highlighting the need for integrated intervention strategies that combine traditional nutritional support with complementary therapies. Objective: This research aimed to assess the effectiveness of a holistic intervention combining nutritional strategies and complementary therapies in mitigating malnutrition risks within vulnerable families, specifically those with toddlers or elderly members. Method: Conducted at a community health center in Purwomartani, Kalasan, Sleman, Yogyakarta, the study involved 43 families, with 24 having toddlers and the remainder with elderly members. Employing purposive sampling, participants were selected based on their regular attendance at the health center, literacy, and willingness to participate. The intervention, implemented through two sessions in October-November 2023, included measures to enhance access to nutritious food, provide nutritional supplements, offer educational outreach, monitor nutritional status, and administer personalized nutritional therapy. Result: Data, recorded on a scale of 0-5 for each indicator and sub-indicator, demonstrated significant improvements across all parameters. The results indicated positive shifts in food security, healthcare access, socioeconomic status, dietary diversity, and micronutrient intake. Conclusion: The integrated approach effectively addressed malnutrition risks, showcasing tangible improvements in key indicators. This study contributes valuable insights into holistic strategies for mitigating malnutrition in vulnerable populations.
