Abstract

Trenggalek is one of the potential regencies in East Java, with many beautiful tourist destinations. Realizing this fact, the government of Trenggalek has set a target to develop 100 tourist villages in Trenggalek by 2024. Tourist villages are now becoming one of the main attractions in Trenggalek. To make the villages more known and visited by tourists, some support is needed, one of which is the involvement of tour guides skilled in using English. Therefore, the community service team from UPN "Veteran" Jawa Timur under the scheme PIKAT (Pemanfaatan Ipteks Bagi Masyarakat = Utilization of Science and Technology for Society) held an English for Tour Guide program in Pandean Village, Dongko Sub-district, Trenggalek. Supported by the Department of Tourism and Culture of Trenggalek. This program has been held since July and is still running.  The service program consists of three main activities, namely: (1) preparation, debriefing, and pre-departure; (2) implementation; and (3) evaluation. The tour guides joined and attended the program enthusiastically. They were actively involved in the discussions, sharing sessions, and role-plays. It is expected that this program can be impactful for tour guides in tourist villages in Trenggalek and can be extended in a broader scope in the future. In addition, more tourists are interested in visiting Trenggalek, from East Java and around Indonesia.

Abstract

Self-confidence  Not everyone has good self-confidence. Therefore, it needs to be encouraged in several ways: through public speaking combined with personal branding. The purpose of this service was to develop public speaking and personal branding skills for student organization managers at SMA Dharma Wanita Surabaya through the PIKAT scheme. The training is divided into two; offline and online. The training program is carried out by carrying out counseling on public speaking and personal branding based on theories in communication. The second activity is to train public speaking and personal branding where the participants can practice their public speaking skills. Monitoring after mentoring and training activities is still carried out. At the end of the program, there are four outputs/recommendations, training modules, activity news, and community service journals. It can be concluded that this activity encourages the development of public speaking and personal branding skills for student organization managers at SMA Dharma Wanita Surabaya.

Abstract

Located at Taman Kili-kili Beach, Wonocoyo Village, Panggul District, Trenggalek Regency, the PKM (Community Service) Education team of UPN Veteran East Java successfully held a tour guide training program and developed a bilingual guidebook in English and Indonesian on June 28, 2024. The training was attended by the Head of the Tourism and Culture Office of Trenggalek Regency, Drs. Sunyoto, and involved approximately 30 participants from Wonocoyo Tourism Village and Nglebeng Tourism Village. Wonocoyo Tourism Village is renowned for its natural attractions, including Kili-kili Park (a turtle hatchery), Pelang Beach, and its waterfall. Meanwhile, Nglebeng Tourism Village is known for the increasingly popular Kuyon Beach, located near rice fields and rows of fishing boats. With their promising potential, both villages are being developed as leading sustainable tourism destinations in Trenggalek, East Java, and potentially at the international level. To support this goal, the availability of bilingual guidebooks and trained tour guides is essential. The program contributes directly to SDG 4.4, by enhancing relevant skills for employment in the tourism sector, and to SDG 8.9, by promoting sustainable tourism that creates jobs and showcases local culture and nature. This initiative also supports community empowerment by equipping local residents with knowledge, communication skills, and tools to independently promote their tourism assets. The bilingual guidebook is expected to aid tour guides and tourism actors in effectively communicating the unique tourism potential of Wonocoyo and Nglebeng Villages to both domestic and international visitors.
