Abstract

Analytical geometry as a course that involves algebraic processes in solving problems requires students' accuracy and it is not uncommon for various errors to occur due to the varying levels of students' mathematical abilities. This study aims to describe students' errors in solving Analytical Geometry problems according to Newman's theory as viewed from their mathematical abilities. This research is a qualitative study with a descriptive approach. This research was conducted at the Mathematics Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Makassar State University in the even semester of 2023/2024. The subjects in this study were students of the Mathematics Department consisting of 3 people, namely students with high mathematical abilities, students with moderate mathematical abilities, and students with low mathematical abilities. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling by setting criteria for selecting research subjects. Data were collected through written tests and interviews. As well as data analysis techniques used qualitatively by collecting data, presenting data and drawing conclusions. The results obtained in this study were that the errors made by students with high mathematical abilities only made mistakes in the reading and endcoding processes, while at other stages according to Newman's theory, students did not make mistakes and were able to get the correct answers. Students with moderate mathematical abilities make reading errors, comprehension errors, transformation errors, process skill errors and endcoding errors. Students with low mathematical abilities make errors at every stage, at the reading stage, students also do not understand the meaning of the question (comprehension) so that students are unable to use the correct notation (transformationi) and ultimately are unable to continue the solution process.

Abstract

The present research is a descriptive study employing a qualitative technique, aimed at elucidating the misconceptions regarding the operation of algebraic expressions based on auditory learning styles. This study aims to discover and examine the misconceptions encountered by students with auditory learning styles in comprehending mathematical ideas. The participants in this study were eighth-grade students from class VIII-A of a junior high school with an auditory learning style. The data's validity in this study was established by temporal triangulation procedures to assure the consistency and reliability of the findings. The study utilized a learning style assessment to evaluate students' preferences and a concept comprehension test using a Confidence Rating Index (CRI) to thoroughly identify students' misconceptions. The study's results showed that the research subjects coded YTA experienced various misconceptions about classifying objects according to certain properties according to their concepts, simplifying algebraic forms in various forms of mathematical representation, using and utilizing and selecting certain procedures or operations, and applying concepts or algorithms in problem solving. In addition, the subjects also experienced obstacles in applying concepts or algorithms to solve mathematical problems systematically. According to these findings, students' conceptual understanding of algebraic topics may be influenced by their auditory learning styles, particularly when integrating auditory representations with symbolic notions. Consequently, enhanced adaptive learning tactics are required, including the utilization of audio media to assist students with auditorial learning preferences in comprehending mathematical concepts more effectively and reducing the likelihood of misconceptions

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan secara parsial maupun bersama antara pemanfatan geogebra dan disposisi produktif dengan komptensi strategis siswa. Pemanfaatan geogebra adalah suatu kegiatan guru kepada siswa dalam melaksanakan dan mengelola pembelajaran yang memanfaatkan geogebra sebagai upaya dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar matematika. Disposisi produktif merupakan karakteristik seseorang yang mendorong untuk berpikir dan bertindak dengan cara tertentu dalam menyelesaikan masalah. Kompetesi strategis merupakan kemampuan siswa dalam mengingat, memahami, menerapkan, menganalisis, mengevaluasi startegi dalam memahami, merepresentasikan dan menyelesaikan masalah yang diperoleh melalui proses belajar matematika. Penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan metode survey dan teknik korelasional. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa yang berjumlah 240 siswa. Sedangkan banyak siswa yang tergolong pada sampel penelitian berjumlah 150 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk pengumpulan data yaitu angket pemanfaaan media geogebra, angket disposisi produktif, tes kompetensi strategis. Teknik analis data yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif, analisis uji prasyarat dan analisis uji hipotesis. Hasil penelitian menunjukan beberapa hal yaitu terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara pemanfaatan geogebra dengan kompetensi strategis siswa SMA, terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara disposisi produktif dengan kompetensi strategis siswa SMA, serta tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan secara bersama-sama antara pemanfaatan geogebra dan disposisi produktif dengan kompetensi strategsi siswa. Dalam hal ini, diperlukan integrasi yang efektif dalam pembelajaran matematika yaitu GeoGebra digunakan sebagai sarana untuk mengembangkan strategi penyelesaian masalah dan disposisi produktif mendukung eksplorasi serta refleksi yang lebih mendalam terkait caa menyelesaikan masalah yang dihadapi.

Hasil penelitian menunjukan beberapa hal yaitu terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara pemanfaatan geogebra dengan kompetensi strategis siswa SMA, terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara disposisi produktif dengan kompetensi strategis siswa SMA, serta tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan secara bersama-sama antara pemanfaatan geogebra dan disposisi produktif dengan kompetensi strategsi siswa. Dalam hal ini, diperlukan integrasi yang efektif dalam pembelajaran matematika yaitu GeoGebra digunakan sebagai sarana untuk mengembangkan strategi penyelesaian masalah dan disposisi produktif mendukung eksplorasi serta refleksi yang lebih mendalam terkait caa menyelesaikan masalah yang dihadapi.
