Abstract

The condition of the Malays is significantly marginalized due to the migration and the rapid industrial development in Batam, Indonesia. However, the Malay sacred myth is still sustained as a local wisdom for the Malay generations. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the ethnoecology behind the story of the sacred myth of Bumbum, Puak, and Batu Belah as a representation of environmental Malay local wisdom in Kampong Tua Nongsa, Batam. Within the conceptual framework of ethnoecology as a bridge to understanding the relationship between literature in the form of folklore and the culture of society, this qualitative research collected data through observation by being directly involved in the community and in-depth interviews with 21 informants including the key jury of the sacred places, community advice, community leaders, village officials, and the younger generation of Malay people in Kampong Tua Nongsa. Data analysis was carried out by comparing, reconfirming, classifying, and interpreting the data with an ethnoecology approach. The results showed that there were three important ethnoecological representations: (1) the ecological ties between forests and humans in the sacred Bumbum, (2) the reflection of the wise king in the sacred of Puak, and (3) the sea as the central life of nature in the sacred of Batu Belah. Sacred site prohibitions reveal deep connections between human behavior and nature, emphasizing ethical considerations; these stories highlight cultural values, insights for heritage preservation, and solutions for environmental challenges within an ethnoecological framework, stressing the importance of ethics in human-nature interactions.

Abstract

Educational developments in the digital era demand teaching methods that foster critical thinking, literacy, and active student engagement. However, social studies instruction in elementary schools still largely relies on conventional, rote-memorization-based methods, resulting in suboptimal student understanding. This study aims to analyze the application of deep learning in social studies instruction in elementary schools, covering implementation strategies, impacts on learning outcomes, as well as supporting factors and challenges. The method used is a literature review analyzing national scientific articles from the past five years via Google Scholar using relevant keywords. The findings indicate that deep learning can improve learning outcomes, conceptual understanding, student engagement, and critical thinking skills. Commonly used strategies include contextual learning, integration of local wisdom, innovative media, and collaborative discussions based on social issues. The main obstacles to implementation include teacher readiness, limited media resources, and insufficient learning time. Therefore, it is necessary to improve teacher competencies as well as provide support for media and learning systems to ensure the optimal implementation of deep learning.

Abstract

Pancasila and Civic Education (PPKn) plays a vital role in shaping the nation’s character; however, in practice, PPKn instruction in elementary schools is often dominated by conventional methods, resulting in a monotonous learning process. Therefore, an innovative approach is needed—specifically, a deep learning approach that emphasizes deep understanding and critical thinking skills. This study aims to analyze the use of digital media in supporting the implementation of the deep learning approach in PPKn lessons in elementary schools. This study uses a qualitative approach with a systematic literature review method. Data were collected through the Publish or Perish and Google Scholar databases using relevant keywords. Articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria through the stages of identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion, resulting in ten articles for analysis. The results of the study indicate that the use of digital media has a positive impact on the application of deep learning in Civic Education (PPKn) instruction, particularly in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding, critical thinking skills, and engagement. Thus, digital media is effective as a supportive tool for optimizing more meaningful and enjoyable Civic Education (PPKn) learning.

Abstract

Elementary school students' reading comprehension ability in descriptive text learning is still relatively low, especially in the reorganization and inferential aspects. This study aims to improve the reading comprehension ability of fourth grade students through the application of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model. The study used Classroom Action Research with qualitative and quantitative approaches implemented in two cycles and three meetings through the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The study was conducted at SDN 05 Tarok Dipo, Bukittinggi City with one teacher and 27 fourth grade students as subjects. Data collection was carried out through observation, reading comprehension tests, and documentation. Qualitative data were analyzed by reviewing the results of observations of teacher and student activities to see changes in the learning process, while quantitative data were analyzed using percentage techniques to determine the increase in learning outcomes in each cycle. The results showed an increase in the quality of learning planning and teacher and student activeness. Students' reading comprehension ability at the reorganization level increased from 77% to 92%, while inferential ability increased from 55% to 87%. Thus, the application of the CIRC model has proven effective in improving fourth grade students' reading comprehension ability in descriptive text learning.

Abstract

This study was conducted based on the use of non-standard language among elementary school students, especially in pronunciation variations during communication and learning activities. The purpose of this study was to analyze the forms of non-standard pronunciation variations, the sociolinguistic factors influencing them, and their implications for Indonesian language learning in elementary schools. This study used a qualitative approach with a literature review method by examining ten journals related to the research topic. The results showed that the pronunciation variations included sound changes, sound omission, the use of non-standard vocabulary, and the use of informal language in formal situations. Social factors such as regional languages, peer interaction, and social media were found to influence students’ language use. Therefore, Indonesian language learning should encourage the use of standard language through reading, writing, and speaking activities to support students’ language development. Keywords: sociolinguistics; non-standard language; pronunciation variation; elementary school.
