Abstract

The development of renewable energy technology increases the need for efficient and reliable inverters to convert direct current into alternating current. This study aims to analyze the performance of a pure sine wave inverter using the EGS002 module as a pulse width modulation controller to produce a pure sine wave. The main issues studied are power conversion efficiency, output voltage stability, and total harmonic distortion (THD) under various load conditions, including resistive and non-linear loads. The research method involves experimental simulations using MATLAB/Simulink and Proteus software, by designing an inverter system based on the EGS002 module, IRF3205 MOSFET transistor, and LC filter. Performance parameters measured include power conversion efficiency (η), total harmonic distortion, and RMS output voltage (V_RMS). The simulation results show that the inverter achieves an average power conversion efficiency of 91.4%, total harmonic distortion below 5% under all load conditions, and output voltage stability with a deviation of less than 1% from the nominal value of 220 volts. These findings indicate that the EGS002 module is effective for inverter applications in renewable energy systems, although optimization is required for non-linear loads and production cost reduction. This research provides important insights for the development of more efficient and reliable inverters.

Abstract

The increasing need for comfort, energy efficiency, and home security has driven the development of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart home automation system. This study designs a smart home system using ESP32 as the main controller, integrated with a PIR sensor for intruder detection, a light sensor for automatic lighting control, a gas sensor for leak detection, and the Blynk application for remote monitoring. The main problem is the lack of affordable systems that integrate security and energy efficiency in real-time. The objective of this study is to develop a system that is cost-effective, responsive, and easy to use. Methods include hardware configuration, ESP32 programming, and testing in a residential simulation. The results show a PIR sensor detection accuracy of 95%, energy savings of up to 30% through automatic lighting control, and a Blynk notification reliability of 98%. This system offers an affordable solution to improve home security and energy efficiency.

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of global death, with early detection of heart rate anomalies key to preventing complications such as arrhythmias. However, conventional monitoring systems are often expensive, non-portable, and less accessible in remote areas. This study aims to develop an affordable and portable Internet of Things (IoT)-based heart rate monitoring system using the MAX30100 sensor and an ESP32 microcontroller. The system is designed to measure heart rate in real time, transmit data to the Blynk IoT platform, and provide automatic notifications when the heart rate is outside the normal range (60–100 beats per minute). The research methods include system design, hardware and software implementation, and testing on 10 subjects aged 20–40 years. Heart rate data was processed using a moving average filter to reduce motion noise. The test results showed heart rate measurement accuracy with an average relative error of 2.57%, an average data transmission latency of 1.39 seconds, and a notification response time of 1.8 seconds. The system is also power-efficient with a consumption of 80 milliamperes, making it suitable for long-term use. This research has successfully produced an efficient and accessible heart rate monitoring solution, supporting early detection of heart disorders in resource-limited settings.

Abstract

Single-phase induction motors are widely used in domestic and light industrial applications, but their performance is often affected by variations in power supply frequency, which affect rotor speed, torque, and energy efficiency. This study aims to analyze in depth the effect of frequency on the performance of a single-phase induction motor through an experimental approach, focusing on the relationship between frequency, rotor speed, torque, and energy efficiency. Tests were conducted on a 1 horsepower motor using a variable frequency drive at a frequency range of 30 to 70 hertz. Rotor speed (in revolutions per minute), torque (in newton-meters), and energy efficiency (in percent) were measured under no-load and mechanically loaded conditions. The results show that the rotor speed increases linearly from 820 revolutions per minute at 30 hertz to 1850 revolutions per minute at 70 hertz under loaded conditions. Torque peaks at 2.30 newton-meters at 50 hertz, while energy efficiency increases from 21.18% at 30 hertz to 40.00% at 70 hertz. This research provides a model of the relationship between frequency and motor performance that can be used to optimize motor operation in practical applications, especially to improve energy efficiency in the domestic and light industrial sectors.

Abstract

The performance of microstrip antennas can be significantly improved through fractal geometry, particularly in achieving size reduction and multiband behavior. This study investigates the radiation efficiency of a microstrip dipole antenna employing the Cohen-Minkowski fractal geometry. The antenna is designed using FR4 substrate material with a dielectric constant of 4.4 and is simulated in multiple fractal iterations. Simulations are conducted using CST Studio Suite to observe return loss (S11), gain, and radiation efficiency across different frequencies. The results show that the incorporation of Cohen-Minkowski geometry increases surface current path length, enabling better impedance matching and improved radiation efficiency, especially at higher iterations.

Abstract

The development of electric vehicle technology continues to experience rapid progress, especially in terms of energy efficiency and power storage systems. One of the main components in an electric vehicle is the battery, which plays a crucial role in determining the vehicle's range, performance, and energy efficiency. This study aims to analyze the battery life of a BLDC (Brushless DC) motor used in a mini electric car prototype. Testing was conducted at the Electrical Engineering Laboratory of Panca Budi Development University with various load scenarios and operating times to evaluate battery life performance. The research method was carried out through an experimental approach by directly measuring voltage, current, temperature, and operating duration using a digital measuring instrument and periodically recording the data. The test results showed that the battery has optimal performance within a certain current range, but experienced a decrease in capacity as the load and operating temperature increased. From the test results, it was concluded that battery life is greatly influenced by operational conditions and charging system management. This study provides an initial overview for the development of a battery management system (BMS) and energy efficiency design in a laboratory-scale mini electric vehicle. Development recommendations are directed at temperature control and load power regulation so that the battery can be used more optimally and sustainably.

Abstract

Starting an induction motor can lead to a substantial initial current surge, causing a voltage drop that may surpass permissible limits. This surge, known as starting current, is characterized by a sudden and high-value current that occurs during the operation of a transformer or motor. Therefore, it is imperative to implement a proper starting method for a 3-phase induction motor. This study focuses on a 10 hp or 7.5 kW induction motor and employs Matlab simulation to analyze the starting characteristics. The simulation results reveal that an increase in the source voltage correlates with a proportional rise in the starting current. Adjusting the source voltage entering the Autotrafo provides a means to regulate and reduce the magnitude of the starting current. In the case of direct starting, the simulation indicates a starting current of 108.5 A at a speed of 1476 rpm, contrasting with a normal current of 9.218 A at a speed of 1464 rpm. On the other hand, starting with the autotransformer method yields a starting current of 76.14 A at a speed of 1467 rpm, with a normal current of 9.078 A at a speed of 1424 rpm. This results in a notable difference in starting current of 32.36 A. Comparatively, direct starting generates the highest starting current, emphasizing the necessity to avoid this method to prevent rapid motor breakdown. The autotransformer method proves to be a more efficient alternative, showcasing a reduced starting current and providing a more reliable and sustainable approach to initiate the induction motor.
