Abstract

Abstrak Limbah kertas dan nata de coco merupakan material yang mengandung selulosa. Selulosa yang terdapat pada limbah kertas dan nata de coco dapat dimanfaatkan untuk memproduksi produk dengan nilai jual tinggi yaitu karboksimetil selulosa (CMC). Pada penelitian ini diteliti produksi CMC dari limbah kertas dan nata de coco serta membandingkan nilai derajat subsitusi (DS) yang dihasilkan nya. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan diperoleh bahwa CMC dari nata de coco memiliki derajat subsitusi tertinggi yaitu 0,661 dengan konsentrasi NaOH dan natrium monokloroasetat (NaMCA) yang digunakan sebesar 20% dan 16 gram. Sedangkan CMC dari bahan baku limbah kertas memiliki derajat subsitusi terendah yaitu 0,066 dengan konsentrasi NaOH dan NaMCA yang digunakan sebesar 10% dan 10 gram. Konsentrasi NaOH dan NaMCA mempengaruhi nilai DS CMC, dimana semakin tinggi konsentrasi NaOH dan NaMCA yang digunakan akan menghasilkan nilai DS CMC yang tinggi. Pada penelitian ini diperoleh nilai DS CMC nata de coco lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan DS CMC limbah kertas. Nilai DS pada CMC dapat diperoleh maksimal dengan adanya proses pretreatment bahan baku dan optimasi jumlah NaOH dan NaMCA pada proses produksi CMC. Abstract Paper waste and nata de coco contain cellulose. The cellulose which found in paper waste and nata de coco can be used to produce products with high selling value, namely carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC). In this research, CMC production from paper waste and nata de coco was examined and the value of degree of substitution (DS) produced was compared. Based on research that has been carried out, it was found that CMC from nata de coco had the highest DS, namely 0.661 with NaOH and sodium monochloroacetate (NaMCA) concentration used were 20% and 16 grams. Meanwhile, CMC from paper waste raw had the lowest DS, namely 0.066 with NaOH and NaMCA concentration used were 10% and 10 grams. The concentration of NaOH and NaMCA affects the DS CMC value, where higher NaOH and NaMCA concentration used will produce higher DS CMC value. In this study, the DS CMC of nata de coco was higher than the DS CMC of paper waste. The maximum DS value in CMC can be obtained by raw materials pretreatment and optimizing the amount of NaOH and NaMCA in the CMC production process.

Abstract

The complex fertilizer industry produces wastewater which contributes to the pollution of water bodies because it contains high levels of phosphate and ammonium concentrations and high TKN (Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen) which contains organic nitrogen. The organic nitrogen contained in the complex fertilizer wastewater is urea so it can be hydrolyzed to ammonium using the urease enzyme. The ammonium formed from the hydrolysis of urea will then react with magnesium and phosphate to form struvite, a crystal of Magnesium Ammonium Phosphate (MAP). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of aeration and the enzyme urease in the removal of ammonium and phosphate in complex fertilizer synthetic wastewater through struvite precipitation. Struvite precipitation was carried out in a batch reactor which had a working volume of 0.5 L with variations in aeration rate, aeration time, and the addition of urease enzyme from Jack bean peas (Canavalia ensiformis). Residual ammonium and phosphate levels were analyzed and struvite crystal formation (MAP) was determined using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results showed that the aeration reactor was able to form struvite crystals and remove the ammonium and phosphate content in the synthetic wastewater of complex fertilizers. The removal of ammonium with a molar ratio of [Mg2+] : [NH4+] : [PO43-] 1:2:1 reached 61-77% at high aeration rates because a lot of ammonium was released into the air. The phosphate removal reached 99%. The urease enzyme was proven to be able to hydrolyze urea into ammonium and increase the pH value and affect the shape of the resulting struvite crystals. The precipitate product obtained was struvite crystals which were confirmed by analysis using SEM-EDX and XRD.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of plunger diameter and stroke length on the performance of a hydraulic diaphragm metering pump, focusing on two key indicators: discharge pressure and flow rate. Experiments were conducted with five plunger diameters (7.90–9.00 mm) and three-stroke settings (100%, 75%, and 50%), validated in accordance with API 675 standards. Results show that each 1 mm increase in plunger diameter produced a consistent rise in flow rate across all stroke settings. Linear regression analysis revealed strong correlations, with flow rate increments of 67.54 mL/min per mm at 100% stroke, 60.78 mL/min per mm at 75% stroke, and 25.34 mL/min per mm at 50% stroke. High coefficients of determination (R²) confirm the robustness and predictive accuracy of these models. In addition to regression analysis, a two-way ANOVA was performed to statistically evaluate the effects of plunger diameter and stroke length, as well as their interaction, on pump performance. The ANOVA results confirmed that both parameters significantly affected flow rate (p 0.05), while discharge pressure was largely unaffected by stroke variation. The optimal configuration was achieved at a plunger diameter of 8.00 mm and 100% stroke, delivering performance that meets API 675 requirements. Importantly, this study proposes a novel validation framework for hydraulic diaphragm metering pumps based on API 675—a gap not fully addressed in prior research. These findings provide practical guidance for improving the efficiency and reliability of pump systems through optimized geometric and operational parameters.

Abstract

Production of acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) through the fermentation process is one alternative that needs to be developed. Less economical in the ABE fermentation process is the difficulty of the separation process from the fermentation product and the by-products of the reaction. Among the separation process methods, such as extraction, distillation, adsorption, and gas stripping, the distillation method is still the most widely used method in the ABE separation process. The purpose of this study was to provide recommendations for predicting good ABE separation and producing optimum operating conditions to produce high % butanol content. Which is then simulated using Aspen Plus V11 software. This study varied the reflux ratio in the distillation column and the decanter operating temperature. The results showed that butanol purity reached 90.33% in the radfrac 1 column operated at a pressure of 1.3 atm with a reflux ratio of 5, the location of the 7th feed stage and the number of stages 11. Then proceed to the purification stage in the radfrac column 2 which is operated at a pressure of 2 atm with a reflux ratio of 5, the location of the 4th stage feed and the number of stages 5. The decrease in the reflux ratio of the radfrac column causes a decrease in the butanol content at the bottom so that the purity of butanol also decreases and decreases % recovery or recovery of butanol. This is also followed by the location of the feed stage, which is getting higher, and the number of stages is increasing.

Abstract

Pada proses pembuatan amonia salah satunya ialah shift converter yang berfungsi untuk mengonversi kandungan CO menjadi CO2. Di dalam shift converter terdiri dari HTS (High Temperature Shift Converter) dan LTS (Low Temperature Shift Converter). Kinerja HTS harus dievaluasi secara terus menerus agar tidak menyebabkan kerusakan pada unit purifikasi atau yang lainnya dan menghasilkan produk yang optimal, maka perlu dilakukan kajian mengenai alat tersebut dengan cara menghitung nilai kinerja alat High Temperature Shift dengan cara  membandingkan nilai data desain dengan nilai data aktual. Penelitian ini dilakukan selama 6 minggu dari bulan Juli sampai Agustus 2023 dan merupakan jenis penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif. Data kuantitatif dikumpulkan melalui pengamatan secara langsung pada alat High Temperature Shift (HTS) Converter (104-D1) di Unit Amonia Pabrik PT. Pupuk Sriwidjaja II-B. Dari hasil perhitungan didapatkan seluruh konversi CO secara aktual pada bulan Juli sampai Agustus 2023 melebihi data desain yaitu >70%, sedangkan konversi CO secara desain 69,208%. Secara aktual, konsentrasi CO yang keluar sudah lebih kecil daripada desain. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa kinerja HTS dalam mengubah CO menjadi CO2 dalam kondisi baik.
