Abstract

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)-Based Science learning is important for strengthening students’ scientific literacy and critical thinking skills. This study aims to analyze ESD-based science learning conducted by teachers affiliated with the Surakarta City’s Subject Teacher Forum (MGMP) for Natural Science. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The sample used in this research consisted of 25 teachers affiliated with the Surakarta City’s MGMP for Natural Science. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. The data analysis technique used is Miles and Huberman’s interactive analysis method. The results of research show that the majority of teachers understand the concept of ESD, are able to design contextual learning, and facilitate reflective activities and projects relevant to sustainability issues. Learning encourages the students to think critically, discuss, and develop scientific literacy in an applied manner. However, challenges are still encountered in teaching material preparation and limited learning resources. This study emphasizes the urgency of training, policy support, and institutional synergy to strengthen the sustainability of ESD implementation in Natural Science education.

Abstract

Technological advancements have significantly impacted the environment, highlighting the need to improve scientific literacy to address these effects. However, PISA data indicates that Indonesian students' scientific literacy remains low. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in enhancing scientific literacy among secondary school students through a literature review method. PjBL fosters active engagement, collaboration, and critical thinking by involving students in meaningful projects. The findings demonstrate that PjBL improves scientific literacy and creativity, though its implementation faces challenges such as limited resources, time constraints, and insufficient teacher training. The study concludes that PjBL is a promising approach to improving scientific literacy in Indonesia, provided adequate teacher training and resources are available to support its implementation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the results of the validation of the needs questionnaire and determine the needs of Ethno-STEM-based learning modules to strengthen the Pancasila student profile. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the Borg and Gall model which focuses on five stages. The results of the study showed that the validation of the needs questionnaire on content validation were 65.33% and the results of the language validation on the Pancasila student profile questionnaire instrument were 65.66% with a good category. The results of the Vindeks analysis on the content validation indicator were 0.91; 0.92; 0.91 and the Vindeks on the language validation indicator was 0.91; 0.92; 0.92 with a valid category on each indicator. The Vindeks results show that the instrument is valid in measuring the character of the Pancasila student profile. Furthermore, based on the results of the needs analysis, it was found that the understanding of junior high school students in Solo Raya regarding the sub-elements of the Pancasila Student Profile ranged from 34-67%, indicating that efforts were needed to strengthen student character. Further Ethno-STEM modules were needed to strengthen the character of the Pancasila Student Profile in all six dimensions.
