Abstract

Using Kirkpatrick's Four-Level Evaluation Model of reaction, learning, behavior, and results, this study investigates how students view English assessment in the Indonesian Merdeka Curriculum. This study involved 41 high school students who answered a valid and reliable Likert scale questionnaire, using a quantitative descriptive design. Students' perceptions were generally positive, according to descriptive statistical analysis conducted using SPSS 26. Most students acknowledged that the assessment was fair, relevant to classroom learning, and motivating. In addition, students reported behavioral changes such as increased classroom participation, but they experienced improvements in learning, especially in vocabulary and confidence. Although some students remained neutral, students said that the assessment helped their overall language development. The clarity of instructions, adequacy of time, and comfort during the assessment were also issues. These results indicate that, although the Merdeka Curriculum assessment method is in line with basic principles, some elements of practice need to be improved in order to optimize students' learning experiences and learning outcomes.

Abstract

This article examines how hadhanah (child custody and care) can be reframed from a private family matter into a public policy issue, positioning the state as a responsible actor when children become abandoned after divorce. Drawing on a normative–juridical and qualitative socio-legal analysis of Islamic family law, national legislation, and municipal policy instruments, the study uses Serang City as an illustrative case of policy urgency. The findings demonstrate a systematic implementation gap between Indonesia’s constitutional mandate to care for abandoned children and local-level governance practice: (1) a legal–administrative gap, where court-based custody decisions and parental obligations do not automatically trigger social welfare interventions; (2) an institutional coordination gap, marked by fragmented responsibilities among courts, social services, and child-protection agencies; and (3) a service continuity gap, in which protection responses remain reactive and episodic rather than sustained and rights-based. Based on municipal administrative data and policy documents, Serang’s 2024 records identify 12,949 abandoned children, indicating a governance problem that requires an integrated response. The paper contributes to debates on post-divorce custody by demonstrating that when hadhanah is treated solely as a private legal dispute, accountability diffuses and child protection becomes episodic; therefore, custody governance must be redesigned so the state can, within defined limits, function as an accountable guardian-like actor through coordinated local child-protection services.

Abstract

This study originates from the gap between employee potential and actual performance outcomes in the public sector, underscoring the need for a more comprehensive understanding of the psychological, behavioral, and moral determinants shaping performance. This study employs a quantitative correlational and causal-comparative design. It examines the effects of work motivation, work discipline, and trustworthiness on employee performance at the Directorate General of Islamic Education (Ditjen Pendis). Data were collected through a Likert-scale survey and analyzed using multiple regression and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to test direct, interaction, mediation, and moderation effects. The findings reveal that motivation, discipline, and trustworthiness collectively explain 61% of the variance in employee performance, with motivation emerging as the strongest predictor. Discipline strengthens the relationship between motivation and performance, while trustworthiness acts as a partial mediator by transmitting part of motivation’s effect through the internalization of Islamic-based ethical responsibility in bureaucratic practice. These finding indicate that performance improvement is shaped not only by psychological energy but also by structured behavioral regulation and internalized ethical foundations. Theoretically, this study advances a value-mediated performance framework, and practically provides a basis for designing integrated public-sector human resource development strategies grounded in motivation, discipline, and integrity.

Abstract

This study examines how the HelloTalk app influences students’ speaking skills in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) class. Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) apps such as HelloTalk offer opportunities for interactive and authentic language use, given that speaking is considered one of the most challenging language skills because it requires the simultaneous use of vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and fluency. Many students face difficulties such as a lack of confidence, limited vocabulary, and insufficient real-world communication practice. Using a descriptive quantitative design, this study involved 22 English majors selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via a questionnaire comprising frequency and Likert scales, multiple-choice questions, and open-ended questions. Descriptive statistics and qualitative categorization were used to analyze the data. Based on the results, most students agreed that HelloTalk improves self-confidence, communication skills, vocabulary mastery, speaking fluency, and motivation to practice English. However, most students stated that the app improves speaking skills, although the results are not immediate and depend on how often it is used. Therefore, HelloTalk is a good tool for learning English as a foreign language (EFL).

Abstract

This study examines the perspectives of teachers and students on the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) by employing a systematic approach guided by the PRISMA framework. Of the total 225 journals found through the Mendeley, Taylor&Francis, and ScienceDirect databases (2020-2024), as many as 21 relevant articles were analyzed in depth. The research methods include, qualitative evaluation, using library research. The result of the study showed that CLT has great potential in improving students' communication skills through activities such as group discussions and real-life situations. Students show a positive attitude towards CLT because the activities are relevant to their communication needs. However, challenges such as time constraints, supporting materials, and teacher training hinder its implementation. Many teachers continue to use traditional methods due to limited training and institutional support, even though they recognize the benefits of CLT. The study recommends intensive training for teachers, curriculum reform, and the use of digital tools to support CLT learning. Adaptation of this method to the cultural and social needs of students is also needed to maximize learning outcomes. These findings provide important insights for the development of education policies that support the effective implementation of CLT.

Abstract

This study investigated students’ perceptions and motivation in learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL) speaking through Instagram Reels. In the digital era, social media has become a widely used tool in language learning, particularly among Generation Z learners. This research employed a quantitative descriptive design involving 35 sixth-semester students from the English Education Department at UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire using a Likert scale and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results revealed that students’ perceptions were categorized as high (M = 3.81), while their motivation was also in the high category (M = 3.70). These findings indicate that Instagram Reels is perceived as an effective and engaging medium that enhances students’ confidence and motivation in practicing speaking. Therefore, Instagram Reels can be considered a supportive digital tool for improving EFL speaking learning experiences.
