Abstract

The multisensory method is a learning approach that has been proven effective for helping students with early reading difficulties, especially in the letter recognition stage. This approach integrates various senses simultaneously, so that students not only see and hear letters but also touch and engage in physical activities related to the shape and sound of letters, making the learning process more concrete, interesting, and aligned with students’ learning styles. This study aims to improve the early reading skills of first-grade students at UPTD SDI Sikumana 3 in Kupang City by applying the multisensory method through Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, focusing on the aspects of the learning process and outcomes. The results show a significant increase in students’ reading skills, from 15% of students who achieved mastery at the beginning to 90% at the end of cycle II. However, one student still needed additional help, so differentiated learning strategies were applied. Overall, the application of the multisensory method has been proven to improve the effectiveness of early reading instruction, but it still requires continuous evaluation and adjustment for optimal results.

Abstract

Hasil penelitian oleh Julita Boimau NIM 2101140071 dengan judul Upaya Peningkatan Keterampilan Membaca Permulaan Siswa Kelas 2 SD Katolik Maria Bunda Karmel Dengan Pemanfaatan Metode Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Materi Berhati-hati di mana Saja dengan rumusan masalah Bagaimana Meningkatkan Keterampilan Membaca Permulaan Siswa Dengan Pemanfaatan Metode Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC)? Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca permulaan siswa dengan pemanfaatan metode Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC). Latar belakang dari penelitian ini adalah rendahnya Kemampuan keterampilan membaca permulaan siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus dengan subjek penelitian sebanyak 20 siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data mencakup observasi terhadap aktivitas guru dan siswa, serta instrumen bacaan awal dan akhir untuk siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan metode Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) mampu meningkatkan keterampilan membaca permulaan siswa secara signifikan, ditandai dengan meningkatnya keterampilan membaca permulaan siswa dari 55% pada siklus 1 menjadi 85% pada siklus II. Dari hasil tersebut disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan metode Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) efektif meningkatkan keterampilan membaca permulaan siswa. Peningkatan ini mencerminkan bahwa pendekatan yang interaktif dan kontekstual mampu merangsang rasa ingin tahu serta partisipasi aktif siswa dalam pembelajaran.
