Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to develop and test the validity and reliability of an academic resilience instrument tailored to the context of Junior High School (SMP) students. The research was conducted using a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design, involving data collection through a 51-item questionnaire. The subjects of this study were 84 junior high school students aged 12-16 from the Yogyakarta region. Data analysis was carried out using the Rasch Model method with Winstep version 3.73. The analysis results identified 47 items that met the criteria, with a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.93, which falls into the good category. The person reliability value of 0.92 is considered excellent, while the item reliability value of 0.96 is categorized as outstanding. The analysis results indicate that the developed academic resilience instrument possesses good psychometric characteristics, including high validity and reliability. This instrument can serve as an effective tool for educators and counselors to identify student needs, design appropriate intervention programs, and enhance the quality of guidance and counseling at the junior high school level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students’ levels of empathy and develop as well as evaluate the effectiveness of an Augmented Reality (AR)–integrated digital simulation game as a group guidance medium to enhance empathic character. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) methodsing the ADDIE model, followed by an effectiveness test through a quasi-experimental design. A total of 208 students were initially screened, and 16 students with moderate empathy levels were selected and assigned equally to an experimental group and a control group. The empathy scale measured two key dimensions: cognitive empathy and emotional empathy. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and ANOVA to assess empathy scores, while expert and practitioner evaluations were examined using the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) to determine the validity and consistency of the developed media. Descriptive findings showed an overall mean empathy score of 3.62 (SD = .55), with emotional empathy (M = 3.66) slightly higher than cognitive empathy (M = 3.58). The ANOVA test demonstrated a significant improvement in empathy after the intervention (F = 34.65; p = .000). These results indicate that the AR-based digital simulation game is effective in enhancing students’ empathy. The use of AR-integrated digital media in counseling services is recommended as an innovative approach to foster emotional understanding, social awareness, and empathic behavior among students.

Abstract

Personal responsibility is an individual's ability to identify and regulate one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and the willingness to take responsibility for the choices and resulting social and personal outcomes. Through a quantitative correlational study, this study explores the role of personal responsibility and career planning in high school students/adolescents. A total of 465 adolescent subjects from Indonesia were sampled in this study. The data collection method used instruments tested for validity and reliability in measuring personal responsibility and career planning. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics to describe the level of personal responsibility and career planning and inferential statistics, namely product moment and simple linear regression, to test the relationship between the two variables. The results showed that 50.9% of students showed that the level of personal responsibility was high, while 60.8% indicated that career planning was medium. Statistical analysis also shows a positive and significant relationship between personal responsibility and career planning, with a practical contribution of 88.1%, while other factors influence the rest. The implications of this study can be the basis for school counselors to help develop students' career planning skills. This study also encourages further researchers to use the study results as a basis for providing guidance and counseling service interventions, especially related to personal responsibility and career planning.
