Abstract

This study aims to investigate the implementation of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) learning approach in English teaching to enhance critical thinking using the pancasila student profile. This study used a qualitative methodology involving 9th-grade students who participated in STEAM activities designed to enhance their critical thinking skills and the Pancasila student profile. The research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR), a qualitative approach to solve learning problems and improve outcomes. The process of implementing this research was carried out as planned, which consisted of two cycles. In the first cycle the strategy used was the delivery of learning in general, while the second cycle was a specific and specially designed learning strategy using the STEAM approach (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math). Each cycle consists of four stages,planning, action or implementation, observation and reflection.The results show a significant improvement in critical thinking after participating in the STEAM activities, indicating that this teaching approach can enhancing communication and critical thinking abilities. These findings can be used to inform policies related to STEAM education in Indonesia and improve education quality through STEAM initiatives.

Abstract

Kurikulum merdeka menjadikan pelajar harus memiliki jiwa pancasila. Pancasila sebagai dasar filsafat bangsa Indonesia yang memiliki sifat demokrasi sebagai wujud dari nilai-nilai pancasila yang harus diterapkan dalam satuan pendidikan. Penguatan profil pancasila bagi pelajar di implementasikan melalui sebuah projek dengan tema demokrasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5) dengan tema suara demokrasi sebagai bagian perencanaan implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian melibatkan seluruh siswa SMK Negeri 6 Semarang pada tahun ajaran 2022/2023. Sumber data penelitian ini berasal dari hasil wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa peserta didik berpartisipasi aktif mengikuti seluruh rangkaian kegiatan selama 100 jam pelajaran. Projek Penguatan Pancasila dengan tema demokrasi memberikan ruang kesempatan kepada siswa untuk mempraktikkan budaya demokrasi secara kontekstual di lingkungan masyarakat.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are part of the 21st century skills that must be mastered by students. Whether writing skill is the main competency that should be mastered in learning English. One of the reasons for the lack of development of students' critical thinking skills in writing preference sentences is that their low enthusiasm for learning is caused by learning activities that are not give any other variation. This study aims to obtain findings related to the application of learning activities with the round robin technique, such as the increase in students' critical thinking skills in their writing preferences, by applying and observing how much effectiveness this type of learning has. This research is classified as quantitative research with the type of quasi-experimental research that conducts experiments through a pretest and posttest control group design with samples used by students of classes VII G and VII I at SMPN 21 Semarang. The research subjects were obtained using a random sampling technique, which was determined based on random choices. Essay tests are used as a tool to test critical thinking skills with preferred research material. The research results obtained based on the results of the significance test obtained an N-Gain percentage of 57.35%. This result is include to the quite effective category. In accordance with this results, it can be concluded that the use of round-robin type can improve critical thinking skills in writing preferences by class VII students of SMPN 21 Semarang effectively.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to investigate the effectiveness of the implementation of the imitation technique in mmmenglish.com website to improve students’ pronunciation and to find out students’ perception of using the media. This research employed a pre-experimental research design with the instruments, namely pre-test and post-test, questionnaire perception, and interview. The subject of this research was the eighth grade which consists of 15 students of SMP N 1 Pringapus, Semarang Regency. The results were shown by pre-test and post-test score categories. The pre-test scores indicated that there were 3 (20%) students in the excellent category, 1 (7%) student in the good category, 2 (13%) students in the fair category, 6 (40%) students in the poor category, and 3 (20%) students in the bad category. The post-test score indicated that there were 6 (40%) students in the excellent category, 5 (33%) good, 4 (27%) in the fair category, and none who were categorized bad. Therefore, the pronunciation abilities of the subjects improved after the treatment. It can be seen that the post-test scores of students were higher than the pre-test in the excellent category. The second result is about the students’ perception of using imitating techniques on the mmmenglish.com website. It can be seen that 42% of students were favored with a very high criterion, and 58% of the students were favored with a high criterion. The results showed that the student's responses to using imitation techniques on the mmmenglish.com website to improve their pronunciation ability were positive.

Abstract

Reading aloud is closely related to students' pronunciation awareness. The study explores the impact of reading aloud on students' pronunciation awareness, focusing on their perceptions and the recognition. Silent letters pose a significant challenge in English pronunciation, often leading to difficulties in understanding and communication. A qualitative design that involved students by practicing the pronunciation of silent letters by reading aloud was employed within nineteen students of the eleventh-grade students at SMK N 2 Semarang using questionnaire and interview focusing on students' ability to correctly pronounce words with silent letters and their overall awareness. The findings revealed that students' pronunciation accuracy and students' awareness who practiced using reading aloud showed a noticeable improvement. The students’ perception of using reading aloud achieved an agreement percentage of 89.5%, indicating that it could improve their silent letter pronunciation. Additionally, it heightened the students' awareness of proper pronunciation and phonetic nuances, contributing to their overall linguistic competence. The second objective referring to the recognition that revealed a mix of positive and negative perceptions, highlighting the complexity of pronunciation strategies in EFL (English as a Foreign Language) education. This research offers valuable insights into how active speaking practices can effectively address specific phonological challenges in language learning.

Abstract

This research investigated the cultural immersion and pedagogical exchange of pre-service teachers participating in the SEA Teacher program, with focus on its impact on teaching practices and career development in the home country. A phenomenological qualitative design was employed. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews with twelve pre-service teachers who participated in the SEA Teacher program in Dong Thap, Vietnam. Therefore, the criteria taken in the selection of participants such as: (1) participation in the full duration of the program, (2) teaching experience in at least one host school in Dong Thap, and (3) willingness to engage in in-depth interviews and reflection. Participants reported increased awareness of the need to adapt teaching methodologies to align with local cultural contexts, which was perceived to improve learning outcomes and foster cultural sensitivity. Language barriers were reframed as opportunities to employ creative instructional strategies, such as games and collaborative activities, which enhanced student engagement. The research also highlighted the role of cultural knowledge, communication skills, and open-mindedness in promoting inclusive learning environments. Findings suggest that integrating culturally responsive pedagogies contributes to a positive and engaging classroom atmosphere. Furthermore, this research identified a need for structured pre-program training, including virtual classroom observations and curriculum workshops with partner institutions. The participants’ readiness may be enhanced with such preparation to design context-specific learning modules and navigate local educational systems effectively.

Abstract

There are three research objectives in this research. First, to find out the pre-service teachers perception of using Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK)-based media in their teaching practice. Second, to explore technological content knowledge TCK-based media which pre-service teachers used in their teaching and learning. Third, to describe the challenges that the pre-service teachers face in practice teaching experience. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research consists of 25 pre-service teachers. The data of this research were collected by using questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaire consisted of closed-ended questions using a Likert scale to measure participants' perceptions related to TPACK implementation. The responses from the questionnaire were analyzed using pie charts to visually represent the distribution of responses. Additionally, interviews were conducted to validate the questionnaire responses and gain further insights into the use of TPACK-based media. The findings of the study indicated that pre-service teachers held positive perceptions of TPACK-based media. They reported implementing TPACK-based learning approaches, successfully overcoming design challenges, and observing improved student engagement and comprehension. The study underscores the importance of technological content knowledge (TCK) utilized by pre-service teachers during their teaching experience. By examining the development and practical application of TPACK, the research aims to contribute to the design of professional development programs that enhance pre-service teachers' technical pedagogical knowledge.

Abstract

This study investigated the stress management strategies during the SEA Teacher program which implemented in teaching. The research questions inquiries: (1) What were the stressors faced by pre-service teachers during the SEA-Teacher Program (2) What strategies did they employ to manage these pressures. The aims of this study were recognized and outlined the pressures faced by these upcoming pre-service teachers during their overseas internship, and clarify the kinds of coping strategies and techniques they utilized. This study was conducted in the Dong Thap, Vietnam. The method is used qualitative approach with descriptive type was employed using questionnaire and interview to collect the data from twelve pre-service teachers who participated in SEA Teacher program. The findings revealed that there was the source of stress which revealed in several key; communication style, pressure of language adaptation, and cultural differences. Furthermore, it focused on the significance of psychological debriefing and organizational assistance in global internship programs for pre-service teachers. Their capacity to handle stress is greatly influenced by elements like social support, readiness, and the pre-service teachers’ ability to reflect on themselves. Considering these results, it is suggested that SEA Teacher program should improve their mental health support. This enhancement could include providing training focused on stress management and developing abilities for effective intercultural communication. Additionally, maintaining steady social support, like mentoring and peer assistance networks, is crucial for aiding pre-service teachers in coping with stress throughout their internship experiences.

Abstract

Adolescence is one of the hard phases in the development of human life. It happens because adolescents have to adjust themselves to the changes within their self, likewise to adapt to the society’s demands which sometimes assume them as an adult. If the situation cannot be responded wisely, it will adversely affect adolescents especially in the digital era where social media is very popular and has a great influence on adolescents. Furthermore, if in the end, adolescents cannot show their true ‘self’ for the sake of getting a lot of followers, comments, and likes. This writing was supposed to analyze adolescents and social media especially the effect of social media on adolescents based on self-theory. The method used was the literature review which includes the source, as follows; research abstract, review, and journal. The analysis method was based on the analysis theory about self from Carl Roger. Self-theory was used when discussing adolescents and social media. The self develops through individual interaction with the surroundings. In this case, because of the demand to get a lot of followers, comments, and likes which cause the adolescents often did not show their true selves.

Abstract

Kampung KB becomes one of the strategic innovations to implement the priority activities of the KKBPK Program as an effort to achieve the target of the Development of Population and Family Planning Control (Pembangunan Bidang Pengendalian Penduduk dan Keluarga Berencana). The data collected through a qualitative approach. The instrument used was an interview guide to conduct an in-depth interview with various participants. The location of the study was chosen by purposive technique; Magelang, Sukoharjo, and Temanggung. The data are grouping into input, process, and output. Related to the input, the establishment of Kampung KB is already by the guidelines, people's participation is quite good, but the support of facilities and infrastructure is still at a minimum level. About the process, the consuming data came from 2015, coaching and movement are not regularly scheduled. The last relates to the output, that is Kampung KB activities such as Tri Bina (BKB, BKR, BKL), UPPKS, PIK-R, learning guidance, and libraries, while activities from across sectors include drainage, privies, corn seedling, home industry training, duck livestock training, and infrastructure improvements. However, the improvement of the KKBPK program achievements has not been completed, even though it changes the social welfare. Keywords: input, kampung KB, output, process Studi Evaluasi Kampung KB di Jawa Tengah Abstrak Kampung KB menjadi salah satu inovasi strategis untuk dapat mengimplementasikan kegiatan-kegiatan prioritas Program KKBPK sebagai upaya pencapaian target Pembangunan Bidang Pengendalian Penduduk dan Keluarga Berencana. Pengumpulan data melalui pendekatan kualitatif. Instrumen yang digunakan pedoman wawancara untuk melakukan wawancara mendalam dengan berbagai informan. Lokasi penelitian dipilih secara purposif yaitu kota magelang, kabupaten sukoharjo, dan kabupaten temanggung. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian data pendekatan kualitatif, terdapat tiga kelompok yang meliputi input, proses, output. Pertama, berkaitan dengan input yakni pembentukan wilayah kampung KB sudah sesuai pedoman, partisipasi masyarakat cukup baik, namun dukungan sarana dan prasarana masih sangat minim. Kedua, berkaitan dengan proses yakni data, pembinaan dan penggerakan belum terjadwal secara rutin. Ketiga, berkaitan dengan output yakni bentuk kegiatan dikampung KB diantaranya Tri Bina (BKB, BKR, BKL), UPPKS, PIK-R, bimbingan belajar dan perpustakaan pintar, sedangkan kegiatan dari lintas sektor diantaranya meliputi drainase, jambanisasi, pembibitan jagung, bank sampah, pelatihan home industry, pelatihan ternak bebek, dan perbaikan infrastruktur. Namun, peningkatan capaian program KKBPK belum sepenuhnya terpenuhi, walaupun membawa sedikit perubahan pada kesejahteraan masyarakat. Kata kunci: input, kampung KB, output, proses
