Abstract

This present study used a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design in which either a single group or multiple groups were observed subsequently to some agent or treatment presumed to give change. The undertaking research was mainly intended to find out whether or not students’ video production based on Subak Cultural Landscape influenced the speaking ability at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Tampaksiring. The students were required to make some groups consisting of 8-9 students and produced their own video related to a material taken from Subak Cultural Landscape text book. Meanwhile, the instruments used by the researcher were tests and questionnaire. After obtaining all the required data then the researcher used matched t-test formula to analyze the data. The result of the data analysis showed that, the mean score of pre-test was 43.22 and the mean score of post-test was 51.11. Based on the data calculation, the t-observed was higher than the t-table; therefore, the hypothesis of the study was accepted which meant there was a significant influence of students’ video production on speaking ability of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Tampaksiring.

Abstract

Listening comprehension is an important language skill that needs to be developed continuously and intensively to enhance the student's language competence. This study used a classroom action research design conducted in two cycles of learning activities to improve students' listening comprehension through the BARA learning strategy. Indonesian educators developed the BARA learning strategy consisting of four learning stages: brainstorming, activating, reinforcing, and applying. This trial of the BARA strategy in an EFL classroom established the final construction of the BARA learning strategy. Data collection was done by administering a pretest, posttests and a questionnaire. The results showed that the student's listening comprehension improved significantly in the first and second learning cycles compared to the pretest result. Therefore, the BARA strategy is very effective in teaching listening comprehension. This study suggests that teachers should consider using the BARA learning strategy to improve students' language competence.

Abstract

Proficiency in writing involves not only understanding linguistic elements but also being able to process language and information in real-time. Preliminary research showed that most VIII G students at SMPN 4 Sukawati needed help with writing, particularly paragraph organization. To accomplish the goal, the researchers carried out two cycles of classroom action research. Tests, questionnaires, and research tools were used to gather the necessary data. Comparing the pre-test and post-test findings allowed for data analysis and revealed that the subjects' mean scores had significantly improved from the pre-test to the post-test. The questionnaire findings, also given out after the last cycle, provided evidence that the use of think pair share was well received. It may be inferred from the study instruments' results that think-pair-share can help SMPN 4 Mengwi seventh-grade students' writing abilities.
