Abstract

This study aims to describe the ability to read literal thinking comprehension of grade III students of SDIT Ridhotullah through cognitive and psychomotor assessments. The method used is quantitative descriptive with five students as subjects. The instruments consist of cognitive tests (multiple choice, short answers, essays) and psychomotor assessments (reading aloud, arranging sequences of events). The results show that all students are in the very good category for the cognitive aspect, with scores of 88–96%. In the psychomotor aspect, four students are in the very good category and one student is in the good category. This finding emphasizes the importance of developing assessment instruments that are appropriate to the characteristics of student development to improve basic literacy.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the understanding of the concept of plane figures in grade 2 elementary school students through a cognitive and psychomotor evaluation approach. The problem faced is the low understanding of students towards the characteristics and forms of plane figures, which has an impact on mathematics learning outcomes. The method used in this study is classroom action research (CAR) with two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Cognitive evaluation is carried out through a written test that measures students' conceptual understanding, while psychomotor evaluation involves practical activities such as drawing and forming plane figures using simple tools. The results of the study showed a significant increase in students' understanding after intervention through both types of evaluation. Students became more active, enthusiastic, and able to connect abstract concepts with concrete activities. Thus, cognitive and psychomotor evaluations have proven effective in improving the understanding of plane figures in grade 2 elementary school students.

Abstract

Mathematical representative ability is a person's ability to express mathematical ideas, objects, and relationships in various forms of representation, both visually, symbolically, verbally, and contextually. This study aims to analyze the mathematical representative ability of students through counting operations in grade III elementary school in the form of story problems. The method used was descriptive qualitative research with written test instruments to assess cognitive abilities and observation to assess psychomotor skills. The research subjects consisted of five grade III elementary school students, by giving test questions on mathematical reasoning skills, observing students directly in solving and understanding story problems, conducting documentation to obtain accurate data when in the field by classifying students' mathematical representative abilities based on math scores. The results showed that most learners had a very good level of cognitive ability in completing arithmetic operations, but there were some learners who were still lacking in understanding story problems. This finding confirms that the importance of appropriate learning strategies so that learners are not only able to solve problems in the form of operations but also able to understand problems in the form of story problems that are applied in real life.

Abstract

Measurement is an essential part of learning. It involves comparing an object with certain criteria or measures. In the context of education, measurement helps educators to understand the level of student achievement of the learning objectives that have been set. This study aims to analyze the ability of grade I elementary school students to understand the basic concepts of measurement, both from the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective aspects. Data collection was carried out through assessment instruments in the form of multiple choice questions and short fillings, practical activities using measuring instruments, and attitude observations during the learning process. The results showed that most students had understood the basic concepts of measuring standard and non-standard units, although there were still some errors in unit conversion and accuracy in measurement practices. This finding is an important basis for developing more contextualized and interactive measurement learning in the early grades of elementary school.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of students' dominant use of regional languages on their Indonesian speaking skills. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected through observations and open-ended questionnaires. The research subjects were fifth- and sixth-grade elementary school students attending TPQ Al-Muhajirin, located in a community where regional languages are predominantly used in daily communication. The findings indicate that students who primarily communicate in regional languages encounter several difficulties when speaking in Indonesian, including challenges in selecting appropriate vocabulary (72.2%), constructing grammatically accurate sentences (36.1%), code-switching between regional languages and Indonesian (86.1%), and a lack of self-confidence when speaking Indonesian (47.2%). In contrast, students who are accustomed to using Indonesian did not experience such challenges. To overcome these difficulties, students adopted various strategies, such as practicing speaking in Indonesian regularly (36.1%), seeking assistance from teachers or peers (55.6%), and engaging with Indonesian-language materials through reading and video content (5.6%). These results suggest that the dominant use of regional languages significantly affects the speaking skills of elementary school-aged children. Consequently, there is a need for more intensive interventions aimed at enhancing students' Indonesian speaking abilities, such as fostering an environment that actively supports the use of Indonesian in daily communication.
