Abstract

Menstrual hygiene management (MHM) is essential for maintaining adolescent girls’ reproductive health, especially for students in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) where access to information and sanitation facilities is limited. Proper education is crucial to reduce stigma, misconceptions, and improper hygiene practices during menstruation. This community service activity used a participatory educational approach through preparation, material development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The program targeted 38 female students aged 12–18 in a pesantren in Kediri Regency. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test with paired sample t-test analysis. Evaluation results showed a significant increase in knowledge scores from a mean of 91.68 to 95.13 (p < 0.001), despite initially high baseline scores. These findings indicate that a contextual educational approach effectively strengthens adolescents’ understanding of MHM. The improvement in knowledge was supported by relevant content and interactive delivery methods. Education based on cultural and religious values successfully reduced stigma and promoted healthy menstrual management behavior. MHM education programs in pesantren settings are proven effective in enhancing girls’ understanding. Similar initiatives should be scaled up and integrated into adolescent health education curricula. Keywords: menstrual hygiene management, health education, female students, Islamic boarding school, adolescent girls.

Abstract

Background: Teenage pregnancy contributes significantly to the cause of mother death and baby death in Indonesia. A total of 9.5% of teenage girls aged 15-19 years have been married, pregnant and giving birth. One of the causes of high teenage pregnancies is the lack of sex education. The family is the first social environment to build character and values in adolescents. It is crucial to create a climate conducive to open discussion between parents and daughter about sex education. Still, in reality, many parents have not provided sufficient information to their children about how to prevent unsafe sex among teenagers and view taboo as one of the causes of the lack of communication among parents and daughters about sex. Purpose: This study aims to develop an effective communication model between mothers and teenagers on educational sex. Methods: This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) way that is the research method used to produce a particular product and test the effectiveness of the product.  Results: Identification of sexual communication between mothers and daughters concluded that both daughters and their mothers still had difficulty communicating related to sexual education. The results of the need assessment carried out by FGD have found formulations that respond to the need for models used in the enhancement of sexual communication between mothers and daughters. Conclusion: The model developed in this study showed results at the evaluation stage that there was an improvement in parents’ ability to conduct sexual communication using effective communication patterns.

Abstract

Nutrition problems in developing countries, including Indonesia, show an increasing trend, one of which is the problem of stunting. Stunting is a nutritional problem caused by a long-term lack of nutritional intake during the first 1000 days of life, which is a critical period. Resulting in growth disorders in children. The high incidence of stunting is a concern for the government. Some of the causes of stunting itself are a lack of intake that is absorbed by the body from the time it is in the womb until after birth, lack of access to health services, lack of access to clean water and sanitation. Therefore, efforts need to be made to prevent stunting by improving diet and parenting patterns and sanitation. The aim of this community service is to increase mothers' knowledge about the importance of providing balanced nutritional and food intake for their children to prevent stunting. This activity is carried out by providing education with leaflets to mothers of toddlers about Balanced Nutrition. This counseling was carried out at Posyandu Puspa Indah, Nabire Regency. Which was attended by 13 mothers. The results of the counseling showed that mothers of toddlers understood the material provided. It is hoped that further counseling will focus on the growth and development of babies and toddlers.
