Abstract

Abstrak: Berbicara dalam Bahasa Inggris dibutuhkan di era globalisasi, sehingga pelatihan berbicara dalam Bahasa Inggris menjadi kebutuhan yang penting bagi guru di era sekarang. Pihak sekolah dan tim pengabdi melakukan pelatihan yang intensif dan menarik dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas berkomunikasi dalam Bahasa Inggris dengan metode roleplay, demonstrasi dan penggunaan media pembelajaran. Penggunaan media pembelajaran yang tepat sangat penting dalam meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris para guru SMK baik di area hardskill dan juga softskill , sehingga mereka dapat memberikan pengajaran yang lebih efektif dan efisien kepada siswa dan mempersiapkan mereka untuk menghadapi dunia kerja yang semakin global. Pelatihan yang dilaksanakan selama enam kali di SMK di Kota Malang ini diikuti oleh 24 guru. Untuk postes, mereka melakukan pidato dalam Bahasa Inggris. Sehingga pelatihan ini menghasilkan tujuhbelas guru atau 70.8% yang bisa berkomunikasi dalam Bahasa Inggris, dan ada tujuh guru (29.2%) yang masih belum memenuhi nilai minimal yaitu 70. Keterlibatan secara aktif dari para guru dan tanggapan positif dari para guru dalam berkomunikasi dengan Bahasa Inggris, serta dukungan dari pihak sekolah, bisa memicu motivasi mereka untuk belajar dan berbicara. Sehingga disarankan untuk kegiatan berikutnya bisa memberikan materi yang beragam, serta bisa dilaksanakan secara rutin.Abstract: Speaking English is needed in the era of globalization; therefore, training in speaking English is an important need for teachers. The school and the community service team conducted an intensive and interesting training to determine the effectiveness of communicating in English with roleplay methods, demonstrations, and the use of learning media. The use of appropriate learning media is very important in improving the English speaking skills of SMK teachers, both in the area of hard skills and soft skills, so that they can provide more effective and efficient teaching to students and prepare them to face the increasingly globalized world of work. The training was conducted six times at SMK in Malang City and was attended by 24 teachers. For the posttest, they did a speech in English. The training resulted in seventeen teachers, or 70.8%, who could communicate in English, and seven teachers (29.2%) still did not meet the minimum score of 70. The active involvement of the teachers and the positive responses from the teachers in communicating in English, as well as the support from the school, could trigger their motivation to learn and speak. Thus, it is suggested that the next activity can provide various materials and be carried out regularly.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kemampuan berbicara dalam Bahasa Inggris menjadi perhatian pengurus pondok An Nahdlah Malaysia, untuk bisa dikuasai oleh para santri. Sehingga tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan para santri dalam berkomunikasi dalam Bahasa Inggris. Pelatihan ini diikuti sebanyak duapuluh lima santri dan dilakukan dalam tiga tahap: persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Sehingga penggunaan metode ceramah, Focus Group Discussion dan praktik digunakan dalam pelatihan ini. Di samping itu, terciptanya modul pembelajaran pidato dalam Bahasa Inggris untuk santri, juga setelah diadakan posttest dengan cara mereka melakukan pidato dalam Bahasa Inggris, sehingga menghasilkan delapanbelas santri atau 72% yang mampu berbicara dalam Bahasa Inggris secara lancar. Selain itu, tujuh santri (28%) yang lainnya sudah bisa berkomunikasi dalam Bahasa Inggris yang nantinya bisa ditingkatkan kemampuannya menjadi mahir jika pelatihan ini bisa berkelanjutan. Tujuh santri tersebut belum lancar, karena tiga faktor penghambat yakni materi belajar, waktu dan kedisiplinan. Sehingga disarankan untuk kegiatan pelatihan berikutnya bisa memberikan materi yang sesuai dengan kemampuan dan yang dibutuhkan oleh para santri, serta pelatihan ini bisa dilaksanakan secara rutin dan peserta memiliki komitmen untuk belajar. Serta, pentingnya melibatkan pengurus pondok pesantren dalam program ini.Abstract: The ability to speak in English is a concern of the board of An Nahdlah Malaysia, to be mastered by the students. Consequently, the purpose of this study is to improve the ability of santri to communicate in English. This training was attended by twenty-five santri and was conducted in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Thus, the use of lectures, Focus Group Discussion and practice methods were used in this training. In addition, the creation of a speech learning module in English for santri, also after a posttest was held by conducting a speech in English, eighteen santri, or 72%, were able to speak in English fluently. In addition, seven other santri (28%) can communicate in English which can later be improved to become proficient if this training can be sustainable. The seven santri are not yet fluent due to three inhibiting factors, namely learning materials, time and discipline. Therefore, it is suggested that the next training activities can provide material that is in accordance with the abilities and needs of the santri, as well as this training can be carried out regularly and participants have a commitment to learning. Also, it is important to involve the boarding school administrators in this program.

Abstract

Perkembangan kesehatan di Indonesia sampai saat masih mengalami berbagai tantangan dalam upaya peningkatan tingkat kesehatan balita dan lansia. Tantangan tersebut antara lain ditandai dengan masih tingginya kekurangan gizi atau stunting pada bayi dan balita. Berdasarkan Survei Demografi dan Kesehatan Indonesia (SDKI) tahun 2012 menunjukkan bahwa Angka Kematian Ibu (AKI) yang berkaitan dengan kehamilan, persalinan, dan nifas adalah 359 per 100.000 kelahiran hidup. Penelitian ini bertujuan utuk menganalisis peningkatan pelayanan kesehatan lansia dan balita melalui program posyandu. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah balita dan lansia di Desa Klampok Kecamatan Singosari Kabupaten Malang yang berada di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Singosari. Variabel dalam penelitian ini terbagi menjadi dua yaitu bebas (independent) yang meliputi jenis kegiatan, pelaksanaan, fasilitas, dan pelayanan posyandu, serta variabel terikat (dependent) yaitu kesejahteraan lansia. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis deskriptif kualitatif.

Abstract

This research analyzes changing patterns of human response to machine speech within the framework of education-enabled AI technologies. This phenomenon is framed within the Media Equation Theory, Cognitive Load Theory, and the Uncanny Valley Hypothesis to study the effects of prolonged exposure to synthetic voices on emotion and trust. With a phenomenological approach, the author interviewed and asked ten Indonesian university students to respond to reflective journals. Students reported that AI voices may facilitate task-focused listening (e.g., to provide the definitions or pronounce words) but do not engage emotionally. Their lack of response adaptability and dynamic responsiveness evoke passive participation, attention drifting, and trust erosion. Students reported feeling emotionally detached, discomfort with hyper-realistic voice mimicry, and cognitive strain attributable to monotonically robotic pacing and tones. Compliance deviated from the voice of authority phenomenon; stronger collective participants expressed a greater need for emotionally responsive signalling. AI tools, while functionally convenient, do not inspire trust as conversational agents. This highlights the need for redesigning listening engagement interfaces and educational AI that adapt not only to the content but also to the user’s emotional context. Research on cross-cultural preferences and the dependence of AI voices on listening and communication skills is necessary.

Abstract

The research aims to identify both internal and external factors affecting students' motivation while proposing innovative solutions to enhance their engagement. The study employs a qualitative exploratory approach, utilizing semi-structured interviews and classroom observations to collect data from eleventh-grade students at an Islamic senior high school in Malang, Indonesia. Thematic analysis is used to examine patterns in students' responses, focusing on elements such as anxiety, teaching strategies, and environmental influences. Findings reveal that students’ reluctance stems from multiple factors, including fear of making mistakes, lack of material relevance, monotonous teaching approaches, and limited external support from peers and family. Additionally, technological integration and an engaging classroom atmosphere play a crucial role in shaping students’ motivation. To address these challenges, the study recommends incorporating interactive teaching methods, gamification, and contextual learning strategies. Strengthening teacher-student relationships and introducing ice-breaking activities at the beginning of lessons can help reduce anxiety and foster a more inclusive learning environment. The study concludes that enhancing students' motivation requires a holistic approach, combining pedagogical innovations, supportive learning environments, and family engagement. By implementing these strategies, educators can transform English learning into a more interactive and meaningful experience, ensuring students develop confidence and enthusiasm in mastering the language.

Abstract

Gamification nowadays has increasingly become chart-topping in education. In addition, game-like learning media can possibly be a precise option to use as a formative assessment tool. This research aims at exploring how teacher utilises Gimkit as a formative assessment tool and how students’ perception on the use of Gimkit as a formative assessment tool in English teaching-learning. This research, further, employs a qualitative case approach. The research subject is the ninth grade involving 28 students. The researcher approaches a semi-structured interview to obtain students’ perception on the use of Gimkit as a formative assement in English teaching-learning. The findings reveal that three steps conducted by the teacher in utilising Gimkit; signing up, creating quizes, and implementing Gimkit as a formative assessment in English teaching-learning. Further, it shows that most students have positive perception on the utilisation of Gimkit as a formative assessment in English teaching-learning. These positive values are coded into; Gimkit is considered as an interesting testing tool, it promotes students’ learning motivation and improves students’ reading skill.

Abstract

This study aims to describe (1) the forms of speaking skills assessment and (2) teachers' solutions in overcoming the obstacles of speaking skills assessment in English learning at LPBA Nurul Jadid. This research used a descriptive qualitative design. The subject of this research is English. This research's objective is to assess speaking skills in Indonesian language learning. The data collection methods used were observation, interview, and documentation. The results of this study show that the technique of assessing speaking skills in English learning uses the form of tests and non-tests, discussion tests in debate learning, and retelling tests in short story learning. Non-test uses observation and portfolio. The aspects assessed are linguistic and non-language aspects. Linguistic aspects include memorization, intonation, structure, and vocals. Non-language aspects are attitude, fluency, expression, and topic mastery. There are three obstacles experienced by teachers in the assessment of speaking skills, namely (1) difficulty in preparing students to face speaking skills learning and (2) difficulty in managing time. There are three solutions offered by teachers in overcoming the obstacles of speaking skill assessment, namely (1) repeating the material, (2) making systematic assessment planning, and (3) conveying the speaking test system or procedure.

Abstract

Gamification nowadays has emerged as powerful catalyst for transforming conventional learning into more dynamic and student-centered experience in learning vocabulary. This present study investigated the effectiveness of digital intervention using Zep Quiz, a gamified-learning platform, to empower eighth grade students’ vocabulary mastery in Indonesian EFL settings. There were 29 students at SMP Negeri Satu Atap Gondoruso 01 incorporated as the subjects. This study was a quasi-experimental design with one-group pretest-posttest design. In addition, three-meeting intervention was employed using Zep Quiz to improve students’ vocabulary mastery. The findings showed a statistically significant improvement in students’ vocabulary academic performance. The mean score increased substantially from 68.10 in pretest to 73.97 in posttest, the paired-sample t-test -7.90, p-value <0.0001, and Cohen’s d size 1.20 indicating that there was positive impact of digital intervention using Zep Quiz to promote students’ vocabulary acquisition. In addition, digital-game intervention using Zep Quiz with its interactive and gamified elements, likely creates more engaging activities, and empowers vocabulary learning. To sum up, gamified learning using Zep Quiz in language learning can be viable and effective approach to overcoming students’ challenge with limited vocabulary acquisition in Indonesian EFL settings.

Abstract

This study investigates empirical investigations regarding teacher insights in reduce boredom an online grammar class. This research is still resolved in most of online setting. Boredom is one of the most challenges in online course faced by English teachers even the students. As learning environments become more digital, it's becoming increasingly difficult to keep students interested. Hence, the researcher finds a number of educational strategies which successfully raise students’ engagement and interest. This study explored qualitative procedures to properly comprehend teacher insights in reduce boredom in online grammar class. The participants for this research included three teachers in English course in Pare. Data collection methods included with semi-structured interview and even observation in online class. Data analysis was used to examine the interview and focus group data. The result shown that teachers believe incorporating these strategies are critical to enhancing learning outcomes in general as well as lowering boredom. There are two interactive teaching strategies on teacher insights an online grammar class are interactive discussion and interactive Quizizz tool. In consequence, incorporating those interactive strategies into online grammar class as affective approach dependent on the teachers' expertise. Providing insights for teachers looking to improve students’ engagement in online classrooms, this case advances the understanding of effective online teaching approaches.

Abstract

ABSTRAK                                                                                     Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan untuk menjawab kebutuhan peningkatan kompetensi guru Bahasa Inggris di Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) dalam mengajarkan materi korespondensi bisnis internasional dan komunikasi internasional untuk kemitraan global, mengingat masih dominannya pembelajaran keterampilan dasar yang belum terarah pada tuntutan dunia kerja internasional. Tujuan utama kegiatan ini adalah meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan profesional guru dalam merencanakan serta mengimplementasikan pembelajaran berbasis korespondensi dan komunikasi bisnis lintas negara. Metode pelaksanaan mencakup asesmen awal melalui wawancara terbuka untuk mengidentifikasi permasalahan dan tingkat kemampuan guru, pelaksanaan workshop intensif yang berfokus pada penguatan materi dan praktik penyusunan korespondensi profesional, serta asesmen akhir melalui kuesioner terbuka untuk menilai peningkatan kompetensi setelah kegiatan Kegiatan ini melibatkan para guru Bahasa Inggris dari SMK di wilayah setempat dengan jumlah peserta sebanyak 10 peserta, di mana sekitar 80% di antaranya belum memahami secara memadai konsep dan praktik materi yang menjadi fokus pelatihan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pengetahuan dan keterampilan peserta, meliputi pemahaman format, penggunaan bahasa profesional, serta urgensi pengembangan kompetensi komunikasi bisnis internasional bagi siswa SMK, sehingga kegiatan ini terbukti berperan penting dalam memperkuat kapasitas profesional guru dan direkomendasikan untuk dilakukan secara berkelanjutan guna menjaga relevansi pembelajaran dengan dinamika kebutuhan industri global.Kata kunci: Keterampilan Bahasa Inggris; Bisnis Korespondensi Internasional; Pengembangan Guru; SMK; EFL. ABSTRACTThis community service program was implemented to address the need for enhancing the competencies of English teachers at vocational high schools (SMK) in delivering instruction on international business correspondence and international communication for global partnerships, considering that current classroom practices remain largely focused on basic skills that are not yet aligned with the demands of the global workforce. The primary objective of this program is to improve teachers’ professional knowledge and skills in planning and implementing learning activities that integrate international business correspondence and cross-border communication. The implementation method involved an initial assessment through open-ended interviews to identify existing challenges and the teachers’ level of understanding, followed by an intensive workshop emphasizing content reinforcement and practical exercises in professional correspondence, and concluded with a final assessment using open-ended questionnaires to evaluate competency development after the program. This activity engaged 10 English teachers from local vocational high schools, of whom approximately 80% were found to have limited understanding of the concepts and practical applications of the targeted material. The results indicate a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills, particularly in terms of understanding standard formats, using professional language, and recognizing the importance of developing international business communication competencies for SMK students. Therefore, this program has proven valuable in strengthening the professional capacity of English teachers and is recommended to be conducted continuously to ensure the relevance of English instruction in vocational schools with the evolving dynamics of global industry needs.Keywords: English Skill; International Business Correspondence; Teacher Development; SMK; EFL.
