Abstract

Textbooks can be considered in determining the level of learning opportunities for students. The learning process to support 21st-century skills requires literacy skills, one of which is digital literacy. The purpose of this study was to determine the comparison of digital literacy content in the aspects of elements, skills, levels, and models in Biology textbooks for class XII SMA/MA on the concept of genetic material. The research method used in this research is qualitative content analysis. Overall, the textbooks analyzed so far have not been compiled digitally because they are still very low. Digital literacy must be optimum by being facilitated by appropriate books. Modifying the form of a book with accommodation for higher digital literacy, even though it is a printed book so that it can collaborate with digital media. Therefore, teachers should first analyze the quality of the contents of Biology textbooks with more complex digital literacy content from various publishers, to see a comparison of the quality of each book used in learning.

Abstract

Students are required to have the ability to think, one of which is understanding. In the era of the fast development of information technology, understanding in students is not just knowing facts, but knowing the meaning, and emphasizing the involvement of students in dealing with problems. This research aimed to determine the improvement of students' concept understanding based on Wiggins' aspects of understanding, which are explain, interpretation, application, perspective, empathy and self-knowledge in biology learning by applying a blended discovery learning model. This research is a quasi-experimental research with pretest-posttest control group design. The population in this research were all students of class X Mathematics and Natural Sciences SMAN 1 Sumber in the 2022/2023 academic year with samples of class X Mathematics and Natural Sciences 4 as the experimental class and X Mathematics and Natural Sciences 3 as the control class. Data collection techniques used tests, and questionnaires. The results showed that there were differences in the improvement of students' understanding based on significant aspects of Wiggins' understanding in biology learning using models of blended discovery learning on kingdom plantae material.

Abstract

Scientific literacy is the ability to use scientific knowledge, identify problems, and draw conclusions based on evidence, in order to understand and make decisions about nature and changes that occur in nature as a result of human activity. This study aims to determine the development of physics teacher candidates’ scientific literacy. This is important to prepare the physics teachers in the future. The method used was ex-post facto. The subjects of this research were all students of physics education Department of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung from the first to the last semester. The data collection used was essayed tests which contained the context of science, the content of science, the process of science, and the attitude of science. Data analysis was done qualitatively and quantitatively. Based on the results of this study, it indicates that the scientific literacy ability possessed by physics teacher candidate students experiencing a continuous development in terms of the context of science, science content, the process of science, and attitude to science. The result of this research may be applied by the Physics Department to make a decision or rule on how to improve the physics student’ literacy level

Abstract

The 21st-century skills are essential for students to adapt to global changes in economics, ecosystems, and politics by developing critical thinking, communication, collaboration, adaptability, and creativity. This article discusses the development of a practicum learning website using the virtual multiple skill laboratory model (VMSLM), an innovation made in response to the obstacles faced in implementing the VMSLM during the covid-19 pandemic. Although focused on solutions during the pandemic, the results of this development have broader potential in supporting online-based practicum learning and distance learning in the future. This research is developmental research that prioritizes qualitative testing as the primary data source. However, quantitative analysis is also required to provide support for the qualitative findings. The results showed that the website developed was considered good and feasible to use based on the results of group discussions with experts. A positive response was also given by the experienced group, who stated that the VMSLM website provided a comprehensive learning experience. These results indicate that practicum using the VMSLM website has the potential to be a valuable tool in the development of physics learning in the future. In addition to providing practical solutions during the pandemic, the use of VMSLM can also support changes towards more interactive, effective, and inclusive learning. Thus, the development of VMSLM websites not only provides a short-term solution but also offers a sustainable contribution to the overall transformation of physics learning

Abstract

Data literacy is an essential part of 21st-century skills learning. The rapidly developing digital era currently presents much data-supporting work. This study aimed to improve data literacy through a project-based learning laboratory (PjBL-Lab) with an ethnoscience-science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (ethno-STEM) approach in bamboo rifle physics learning. The research method used a quasi-experiment with a sample of 62 students from the experimental class and 65 students from the control class. The research population was students in the first semester of biology education at a state Islamic university in West Java and science education students at a state Islamic university in Central Java, totaling six classes with a total of 188 students. The sampling technique used was random sampling. The data literacy test instrument used descriptive questions with a rubric that meets valid and reliable criteria. A questionnaire was used to measure the practicality of the learning model's implementation. Data analysis used N-Gain and the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U statistical test. The results showed that data literacy can be improved by implementing the PjBL-Lab learning model integrated with ethno-STEM. There was a significant difference in data literacy abilities between the two classes. The PjBL-Lab model with an ethno-STEM approach received a positive response from students. Therefore, the PjBL-Lab model integrated with ethno-STEM can improve data literacy and is practical for learning. Future research can explore traditional games that can be integrated into physics learning to enhance various 21st-century skills.

Abstract

The Indonesian education system requires developing 21st-century skills, including creative thinking skills (CTS). Students' CTS is still low. The study aims to describe student learning activities, analyze students' creative thinking skills, and describe student responses by applying a the problem-based learning (PBL) model that integrates Islamic values with mind-mapping assessments. The research method uses a true-experimental design with a posttest-only control design. The research location is at SMAN 1 Dukupuntang, and the respondents are 30 students. The sampling technique was random sampling, the population of all IPA students in class X. The selected classes were class X IPA 1 as the experimental class and  X IPA 2 as the control class. Data collection research includes observation sheets, mind mapping, and questionnaires. Data processing techniques are in the form of normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis tests. The results showed that the average value of student learning activities is 88, classified as very good. Applying the PBL model that integrates Islamic values with mind mapping assessments can significantly improve students' CTS with scores of Asymp Sig. (2-tailed) 0.000. Student responses are positive with a response scale interest category (67,8). The findings in this study are that students need more stimulation to integrate Islamic values with science during online learning. It can be concluded that the PBL model, integrated with Islamic values and mind mapping assessment, can improve students' creative thinking skills.
