Abstract

Indo-Pacific is a very crucial region as many of defense activities from many countries are happening here. As the U.S., United Kingdom and Australia see the importance of the region they then created an alliance to create a free and open Indo-Pacific and make it as a region that is free from coercion and respects human rights. This security arrangement also will provide Australia with nuclear-powered submarines for their defense capabilities. However, this raised concern among many parties that believed there are personal reasons behind the establishment of AUKUS. In short, AUKUS is a media to achieve and protect their national interest. This is in line with neo-realism theory that believed the main goal of every states is to survive and they will create alliances in crucial time. Hence, this paper will discuss the neo-realism in AUKUS. This paper is using a qualitative-descriptive method to better explain neo-realism in AUKUS.

Abstract

Islamophobia is a complex issue to discuss, starting from history, to the terrorist and extremist acts behind it. The definition of the term Islamophobia itself is studied to look at this issue from the point of view of conflict with two perspectives of perpetrators and victims as well. This also includes the influence of the media in herding opinions and disseminating them, as well as the Islamophobia Resolution established by the United Nations as an effort to counter this anti-Islamic sentiment. Islamophobia is included in the category of a dangerous circle where if the chain is not immediately broken, discrimination will continue to occur, leading to violence that results in victims. Alignment between racism and Islamophobia is also important in order to build a narrative that both views are prohibited. There is no single solution to combat Islamophobia, but several efforts can be made to build awareness and integrate Islamic values with universal humanity values, and the Islamophobia Resolution is one of the initiatives for that.

Abstract

The research is about motives of hedging, and hedging in practices. Using empirical statistics and Indonesia as case study, we challenge a number traditional perspective that: (1) assert hedging is more suitable in a bipolar and power-deconsentrated system; (2) potrays hedging as ambiguous behavior. For sure and long, Indonesia has been practicing hedging. We agree that by hedging, Indonesia is closest to China economically, and getting closer to United States and his allies militarily. However, we also discover Indonesia has been sending signals to Great Powers other than China and United States to pay attention in the region, particularly South China Sea. And consequently by hedging, Indonesia contribute indirectly to enhance security dilemma condition within economic interdependence characteristics in the region.

Abstract

Climate change is a significant global concern due to its potential for long-term detrimental impacts on multiple facets of life. However, prevailing viewpoints on climate change often exhibit a bias towards the interests of the global north, disregarding the needs and vulnerabilities of the Global south. This research utilizes qualitative descriptive methods, integrating theories of international relations, climate diplomacy, and Indonesian foreign policy to offer a comprehensive explanation. Indonesia, being highly susceptible to climate change impacts, plays a pivotal role in addressing this disparity. However, previous studies have overlooked the examination of how Indonesia can optimize its climate diplomacy efforts under President Joko Widodo's leadership. Analyzing Indonesia's climate diplomacy endeavors yields valuable insights for the country's contributions to global climate change solutions and addressing its vulnerabilities. This shapes Indonesia's future perspective on international relations, balancing its interests with the imperative for global cooperation. Indonesia's involvement under the leadership of President Joko Widodo in global climate change efforts is pivotal for fostering an equitable and sustainable future.
