Abstract

This study aimed to analyze inquiry-based learning in science instruction toward students' critical thinking skills at SDS Pelangi. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects consisted of two fifth-grade teachers as key informants, ten fifth-grade students, and one principal as supporting informants. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, including data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings revealed that teachers understood inquiry-based learning as a learning process that actively involved students in discovering concepts through observation and experimental activities. The implementation of inquiry-based learning encouraged students to participate in observation, investigation, discussion, and conclusion drawing during science learning. Students' critical thinking skills were reflected in the indicators of interpretation, analysis, inference, evaluation, explanation, and self-regulation, which developed through meaningful learning experiences.

Abstract

This qualitative case study at Pelangi Private Elementary School Medan examines the integration of inquiry learning in science, its impact on students' Science Process Skills (SPS), and its institutional factors. Utilizing interviews, observations, and documentation from the principal, fourth-grade teacher, and students, data were analyzed via the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña framework. Findings reveal that the structured inquiry stages—from problem presentation to drawing conclusions—significantly enhanced students' SPS, particularly in formulating hypotheses, controlling variables, and conducting experiments. Teacher readiness, adequate facilities, and student enthusiasm acted as key facilitators. Conversely, limited prior knowledge, restricted instructional time, and low learning independence emerged as primary barriers. Ultimately, this study demonstrates that inquiry learning effectively develops students' SPS, provided that continuous teacher scaffolding is maintained.

Abstract

An Analysis of Students’ Misconceptions in Learning the Topic of Changes in States of Matter at SDS Pelangi Medan. Undergraduate Thesis. Primary School Teacher Education Study Program, Faculty of Education, Universitas Negeri Medan, 2026. This study aimed to describe the misconceptions of fifth-grade students at SDS Pelangi Medan regarding the concept of changes in states of matter, identify the factors contributing to these misconceptions, and describe the teacher’s efforts to overcome them. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects consisted of 15 fifth-grade students and one fifth-grade teacher at SDS Pelangi Medan. Data were collected through a diagnostic test based on the Certainty of Response Index (CRI), semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the data was ensured through source triangulation and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that most students experienced misconceptions regarding the concepts of changes in states of matter. Out of 15 students, 12 were identified as having misconceptions, while 3 demonstrated an appropriate understanding of the scientific concepts. Misconceptions were found in the concepts of melting, freezing, evaporation, condensation, sublimation, and deposition. The identified misconceptions included the belief that evaporated water disappears completely, that water droplets on the outside of a cold glass come from water leaking through the glass, and that changes in states of matter produce new substances. Factors contributing to these misconceptions included students’ prior incorrect understanding, everyday experiences that conflicted with scientific explanations, limited use of concrete learning media, and a lack of experimental activities during instruction. The teacher’s efforts to address these misconceptions included re-explaining the material, providing concrete examples, conducting simple demonstrations, facilitating discussions, and engaging students in question-and-answer activities. The study concludes that misconceptions regarding changes in states of matter are still prevalent among fifth-grade students at SDS Pelangi Medan. Therefore, learning activities should emphasize direct experiences, the use of concrete learning media, and experimental activities to help students develop a more accurate conceptual understanding.

Abstract

The problem of this research lies in the low learning outcomes of fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 106789 in science and the lack of use of varied learning media in the learning process. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the use of digital learning media containing local wisdom of Batak Toba on the learning outcomes of fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 106789 Tanjung Gusta in the material Plants, Source of Life on Earth. The population of this study was all fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 106789 Tanjung Gusta. The research sample consisted of 30 students of class IV A and 31 students of class IV B. Data collection techniques used were interviews, documentation, and written tests. This study used an experimental research type (Quasi Experimental Design) with a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design type. Hypothesis testing was carried out using the t-test. Based on data analysis, it was found that there was a significant influence between the use of digital learning media containing local wisdom of Batak Toba on the learning outcomes of fourth-grade students of SD Negeri 106789 Tanjung Gusta in science. This is evidenced by the calculated t value of 6.040, which is greater than the t table value of 2.024, and the sig. value <0.05, which is 0.000.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aimed to determine the effect of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning model using Science Ludo media on the cognitive learning outcomes of fifth-grade students in ecosystem material at MIS H.M. Hefni during the 2025/2026 academic year. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of 60 students selected through total sampling, including 30 students in the experimental class and 30 students in the control class. Data were collected through multiple-choice pre-tests and post-tests, as well as observation sheets. Data analysis included normality and homogeneity tests followed by the Independent Samples t-test using SPSS. The results showed that the experimental class achieved higher learning outcomes than the control class. The hypothesis test produced a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.039 (p < 0.05), indicating that H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. Classroom observations also indicated high levels of student enthusiasm and participation during the learning process. Therefore, the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning model using Science Ludo media had a positive and statistically significant effect on students' learning outcomes in ecosystem material. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis pengaruh penerapan Model Teams Games Tournament (TGT) berbantuan media Ludo Sains terhadap hasil belajar kognitif peserta didik kelas V pada materi ekosistem di MIS H.M. Hefni Tahun Ajaran 2025/2026. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode quasi experiment melalui desain Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 60 peserta didik yang ditentukan menggunakan teknik total sampling, terdiri atas 30 peserta didik kelas V Al-Malik sebagai kelas eksperimen dan 30 peserta didik kelas V Al-Hafiz sebagai kelas kontrol. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes pilihan ganda pada pre-test dan post-test serta lembar observasi. Analisis data meliputi uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, dan uji hipotesis menggunakan Independent Samples t-test dengan bantuan SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan hasil belajar pada kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol. Uji hipotesis memperoleh nilai signifikansi (Sig. 2-tailed) sebesar 0,039 (p < 0,05), sehingga H₀ ditolak dan H₁ diterima. Hasil observasi juga menunjukkan bahwa peserta didik antusias dan berpartisipasi aktif selama pembelajaran. Dengan demikian, penerapan Model Teams Games Tournament (TGT) berbantuan media Ludo Sains berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap hasil belajar peserta didik pada materi ekosistem. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model integrated with local wisdom on the visual arts learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 101767 Tembung. The study was motivated by students' low academic achievement in visual arts, evidenced by mid-semester summative data showing a mastery rate of only 36.7%. Conventional and monotonous learning activities limited to simple drawing media had negatively impacted student motivation and creativity. A quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. The research subjects consisted of all 30 fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 101767 Tembung in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected using a 15-item multiple-choice test that had been validated and proven reliable (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.91). Data analysis included the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and paired sample t-test. The results demonstrated a significant increase in mean scores from 51.7 (pretest) to 84.6 (posttest). Hypothesis testing yielded a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of < 0.001, leading to the rejection of H₀ and acceptance of Hₐ. These findings confirm that the CTL model integrated with local wisdom significantly improves students' visual arts learning outcomes, particularly in the topic of creating decorative motif patterns based on Batak Toba cultural heritage.

Abstract

This study aims to develop Sketchfab-based learning media and determine its validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The study used the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE development model, which includes the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research subjects consisted of 21 fifth-grade students of SDN 060851, Medan Perjuangan District. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, validation questionnaires, practicality questionnaires, and learning outcome tests in the form of pre-tests and post-tests. Data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis and N-Gain calculations. The results of the study showed that the Sketchfab-based learning media achieved an average validity percentage of 89.5%, categorized as very feasible, a practicality test score of 92.5%, categorized as very practical, and an effectiveness test result of 0.77, categorized as high. This was evidenced by the increase in students' average score from 49.90 in the pre-test to 87.43 in the post-test. These results indicate that the Sketchfab-based learning media is able to improve students' understanding of the Human Digestive Organs and is suitable for use as a learning medium in the fifth grade science subject of elementary school.
