Abstract

Natural disasters in the Semeru region have resulted not only in physical destruction but also in long-term psychological consequences for affected communities, particularly in the form of Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS). Although survivors have been relocated to permanent housing, traumatic stress often persists and fluctuates during the post-relocation phase. This study aims to explore the dynamics of Post-Traumatic Stress and the factors influencing its persistence among disaster survivors living in the Bumi Semeru Damai (BSD) permanent housing complex in Lumajang. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design and involved four disaster survivors with diverse ages and life backgrounds. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and documentation, and analyzed thematically using the Conservation of Resources (COR) theory. The findings indicate that Post-Traumatic Stress among survivors is dynamic and non-linear, with symptom intensity changing over time. The persistence of Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) is strongly associated with the loss of critical resources, while social support functions as a protective factor that facilitates psychological adaptation. These findings highlight the need for post-disaster recovery strategies that prioritize long-term psychosocial support and resource strengthening.

Abstract

Children’s animation serves as a strategic medium for conveying Islamic values in a subtle and contextual manner. This article aims to analyze the representation of Islam through clothing and cultural practices in two popular animated series, Upin & Ipin and Nussa. This study employs a qualitative method with a content analysis approach, focusing on selected scenes that depict Muslim attire, Islamic cultural practices, and social interactions among characters. The findings reveal that both animations consistently portray Islam as a friendly, inclusive religion that emphasizes social values such as togetherness, mutual cooperation, modesty, and social care. Muslim clothing is not merely presented as a religious symbol but also as a cultural identity embedded in everyday life. Through simple narratives and visuals that resonate with children, Upin & Ipin and Nussa contribute to shaping a moderate and contextual understanding of Islam from an early age.

Abstract

Indonesian migrant children in Malaysia face various psychosocial challenges influenced by limited access to education, family economic conditions, administrative status, and minimal parental support. Various studies have examined the mental health and resilience of migrant children, but research on adaptive coping strategies reinforced thru guidance and counseling services in non-formal educational institutions is still relatively limited. This study aims to analyze the adaptive coping strategies of Indonesian migrant children and examine the contribution of counseling approaches in strengthening coping abilities at PKBM PNF KBRI Kuala Lumpur. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Participants were purposively selected, including the head of PKBM, teachers, students, and parents. Data were collected thru in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña with credibility tests thru source triangulation, technique triangulation, and member checks. The research results show that migrant children face pressures stemming from their family's economic limitations, low parental supervision, and difficulties in academic and social adaptation. To cope with these conditions, students develop problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping, and social support coping strategies, with social support from teachers and peers being the most dominant strategy. The counseling approach thru personal guidance, character building, and emotional support has proven to strengthen students' problem-solving abilities, emotional regulation, self-confidence, and adjustment. These findings affirm that guidance and counseling services in non-formal education play a strategic role in strengthening the adaptive coping of migrant children while also providing conceptual and practical contributions to the development of psychosocial services for Indonesian migrant children abroad.
