Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the problem-based learning (PBL) model assisted by LKPD on the learning outcomes of grade X phase E students at SMA N 1 IX Koto Sungai Lasi. The type of research is a quasi-experiment. The population in this study consists of 3 classes of grade X phase E at SMA N 1 IX Koto Sungai Lasi. Sampling was conducted using Purposive Sampling, selecting classes X E1 and X E3 as the experimental and control classes. The instrument used is a final test. Data analysis technique used hypothesis testing with the Mann-Whitney test. The results of the analysis show that the final test scores obtained an average score of 84.83 for the experimental class and an average score of 71.25 for the control class. After conducting a non-parametric statistical test using SPSS, the calculated Asymp value was .006 while the table Asymp value is >0.05, which means the calculated Asymp is smaller than the table Asymp, hence H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted meaning the biology learning outcomes of students taught with the problem-based learning model assisted by LKPD are better. It can be concluded that there is an influence of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by LKPD on the learning outcomes of class X phase E students at SMA N 1 IX Koto Sungai Lasi.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the think pair share and mind map learning models have an influence on students' critical thinking skills in class X SMA, as well as their relationship with their creativity with ecosystem material. This study used a quasy experiment with a one group pretest-posttest design. Students of SMAN 1 Payung Sekaki formed the population. The number of students used was 25 people. In data collection, mean difference test technique (t-test) was used. The pre-test result was 68.20 rising to 85.20, and the paired t-test result was 9.106 rising to 1.697, with a probability value below 0.05 (0.000 <0.05). This shows that the Think Pair Share and Mind Map learning models have an impact on critical and creative thinking skills in Class X SMA on ecosystem material. Thus, it can be concluded that students in Class XE2 of SMAN 1 Payung Sekaki showed improvement in their critical thinking ability and creativity related to ecosystem material.

Abstract

This study analyzed high school students’ needs regarding the integration of Minangkabau ethnoecology into biology education to support sustainability-oriented learning. Using a mixed-method design, quantitative data were obtained from a validated 20-item Likert-scale questionnaire and qualitative insights were obtained from open-ended questions. The sample involved 666 students from 14 senior high schools in West Sumatra, representing diverse ecological and cultural settings. Statistical analyses—including reliability testing (α = 0.807), normality, homogeneity, and one-way ANOVA—confirmed data consistency and revealed no significant differences among schools (p = 0.085), indicating homogeneous perceptions. Descriptive findings showed high mean scores in learning preferences (M = 4.23), material needs (M = 4.35), and expectations (M = 4.12), reflecting strong demand for contextual and culture-based biology learning. Qualitative responses supported these results, revealing that students linked conservation with traditional practices such as gotong royong, rimbo larangan, and lubuk larangan. These findings highlight the need to design ethnoecology-based biology modules aligned with SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 15 (Life on Land), ensuring culturally grounded and ecologically meaningful science learning.

Abstract

The low ability of students' creative thinking skills is still a major problem in learning biology, especially in environmental change materials that require analytical and problem-solving skills. This study aims to analyze the effect of the application of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model assisted by Mind Mapping on the creative thinking ability of class X students of SMAN 4 Solok City. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a post-test only control group design. The research sample consisted of 41 students who were divided into an experimental class (22 students) and a control class (19 students). The research instrument is in the form of a test of creative thinking ability which includes indicators of fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. Data were analyzed using the Liliefors normality test, homogeneity test, and Welch t-test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the creative thinking skills of students in the experimental class and the control class, with the value of t calculated (2.32) greater than the t value of the table (2.02). The average post-test score of the experimental class (78.6) was higher than that of the control class (66.7). Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the PjBL model assisted by Mind

Abstract

Biology OSN training for students at MAS Muhammad Nadis Bukittinggi was conducted to enhance their readiness and competencies for the National Science Olympiad (OSN) in Biology. The program included selection of qualified participants, intensive subject matter delivery, practice problem exercises, and trial examinations (try-outs) to familiarize students with the OSN format. All sessions were facilitated by experienced OSN coaches to ensure quality guidance. An evaluation comparing participants’ pre-test and post-test scores was carried out to measure learning gains. The results showed a significant increase in student abilities, as the average post-test scores were higher than the pre-test scores, indicating the program effectively improved students’ understanding and problem-solving skills. The training had positive impacts, including increased student motivation to learn and improved readiness to participate in OSN selection at the district/city and provincial levels. It also strengthened the role of teachers as mentors in OSN coaching at the school. Supported by active teacher involvement and systematic preparation, the program is expected to continue enhancing student achievement in science competitions at the national level.
