Abstract

Ajibarang District has implemented “Pekarangan Pangan Lestari” Program (P2L) by empowering women farmer groups (KWT) in the villages. However, these women farmers face limitations in knowledge and skills, necessitating the role of field agricultural extension workers (PPL). Field conditions reveal that one extension worker is responsible for three villages, leading to less effective support. Additionally, there are issues concerning the KWT management in sustaining the program. The aim of this research is to determine the level of PPL's role and the success of the P2L program, identify the factors affecting the success of the P2L program, and assess the impact of PPL's role on the success of the P2L program. The research was conducted in the villages of Tiparkidul, Darmakradenan, and Banjarsari in Ajibarang District, Banyumas Regency. Data collection used total sampling or census, involving 69 women farmers who have benefited from the P2L program. Data analysis methods included validity testing, reliability testing, scoring analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis. The results indicate that internal factors affecting the success of the P2L program among women farmers include education level, yard area, and farming duration. Age does not have a significant impact on the success of the P2L program. The role of PPL emerges as a significant external factor influencing the success of the P2L program in Ajibarang District.

Abstract

Cooperatives and farmer groups in Indonesia's dairy sector are facing several serious challenges that can threaten their sustainability. One of the main issues is the availability and quality of livestock feed. This literature study aims to analyze and summarize various aspects of the threats to the sustainability of cooperatives and farmer groups caused by feed-related problems in the context of dairy cattle in Indonesia. The research method employed in this study is literature review. This literature study investigates issues related to livestock feed, such as inadequate feed availability, feed prices, and the quality of feed that can affect the productivity and health of dairy cattle. The results of the literature study indicate that uncertainty in feed supply, rising feed prices, and the lack of access to high-quality feed for farmers are the primary threats to the continued operation of cooperatives and farmer groups. Therefore, cooperatives must have a strategy to anticipate threats related to feed issues in order to maintain the sustainability of the cooperative.

Abstract

The livestock subsector is one of the main sectors in Indonesia's economy, contributing significantly to economic growth. Livestock farming in Central Java Province has experienced the fastest growth compared to other subsectors under the agricultural sector, such as food crops, horticulture, plantations, and agricultural services and hunting. The workforce involved in the livestock subsector also plays an important role in supporting economic growth. Business investment in a subsector is positively correlated with the labor absorbed in that subsector, making it essential for the government to implement strategic efforts and plans to enhance the region's potential for significant investment growth. This study aims to analyze the role of the livestock subsector in the economy of Central Java. The method used includes basic statistical analysis techniques, such as percentages, growth rates or trends, and comparisons. The statistical analysis results are described descriptively to provide explanations for the findings. The production of meat and milk in Central Java Province has shown a significant decrease, which is caused by PMK and LSD diseases as well as the economic impact of the post-COVID-19 pandemic. The population of beef cattle has experienced stable growth, but the population of other livestock such as goats and sheep has declined. The number of workers has also significantly decreased, possibly due to the PMK outbreak and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the value of domestic investment (PMDN) experienced a drastic decrease in 2020, it has significantly increased in 2021 and 2022.

Abstract

Sweet potatoes are a very important agricultural commodity and play a role in ensuring food security and increasing farmers' income. However, many farmers in the region still face difficulties in maximizing their production and income, in addition to facing various risks that can affect their agricultural yields. This study aims to assess the level of risk faced by farmers in the sweet potato cultivation business, both in terms of production and income, as well as to identify mitigation efforts carried out by farmers in reducing these risks. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method involving 100 respondents from sweet potato farmers in Cilimus District, Kuningan Regency, which were selected through a proportional random sampling technique. The results showed that the average sweet potato production by farmers was 9,472.50 kg per 0.43 hectares, with an average income of Rp7,888,653.56 per 0.43 hectares per planting season. Production risk analysis revealed a coefficient of variation of 1.00, with the lower limit of production reaching Rp -9,548.91 kg. Meanwhile, the coefficient of variation in revenue was recorded at 0.93, with the lower limit of income of Rp -6,632,997.55 per 0.43. From these results, it is known that the risks faced by sweet potato farmers in Kuningan Regency are relatively high, both in terms of production and income.

Abstract

Seaweed production often experiences fluctuations, with one of the recurring challenges faced by farmers being the suboptimal utilization of available production factors, which in turn impacts production output. The aim of this study is to analyze the level of technical efficiency and the technology gap in seaweed production across three districts in East Java: Sumenep, Banyuwangi, and Situbondo. This research utilizes primary data in a cross-sectional format during the 2023/2024 seaweed cultivation season in the aforementioned districts. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data on the inputs and outputs used in production. The Meta-Frontier Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method was applied to measure the technical efficiency of seaweed production in each research area. Based on the results of the technical efficiency analysis, the areas with efficiency scores of 1 (fully efficient) were as follows: Sumenep District (63.33%), Banyuwangi District (40%), and Situbondo District (23.33%). More than 50% of the Decision-Making Units (DMUs) in Sumenep have achieved perfect efficiency (TE = 1), whereas the other two districts have not reached 50% efficiency among their DMUs. Furthermore, the average technical efficiency across the DMUs in the three study locations is 85.3%, indicating that these DMUs can still improve their technical efficiency by up to 14.7%. The average Total Gap Ratio (TGR) shows low variability, although differences still exist. This suggests that the three study areas implement varying production practices, methods, and have different resource availability. However, Banyuwangi District has the highest TGR value among the three study locations, approaching the threshold of 1. This indicates a relatively low technology gap in this area.
