Abstract

This study aims to investigate the improvement in the quality of learning biology, especially about the anatomy of the human body after using virtual reality media “The Body VR: Journey inside a Cell”. This study employed pre-experimental research with a one-group pretest-posttest design which was chosen at random, and no stability and clarity tests were performed before the group was given treatment. According to the findings of data analysis and field research at an Islamic Senior High School in Bekasi, students struggled to understand the anatomy of the human body in biology lectures. Observation data suggest that learning outcomes remain poor, at 65%, and problem-solving abilities remain low, at 70%. There are significant differences in students' analytical abilities in distinguishing, organizing, and attributing using Virtual Reality media compared to those who do not participate in Virtual Reality media learning in biology subject XI MIPA. This research recommended to pay greater attention to the use of suitable learning material, as well as to create additional space and facilities for instructors and students to use throughout the learning process. Also, the school must provide new breakthroughs in learning, such as updating up-to-date or up-to-date learning media and educating instructors to design and apply them.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools, or pesantrens, have long played a significant role in the educational landscape of Indonesia, particularly in fostering religious and linguistic knowledge. This research focuses on three modern Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia: Al-Junaidiyah Biru in Bone Regency, IMMIM Putra Makassar in South Sulawesi, and Darussalam Gontor in Ponorogo. Central to the study is the role of the Language Improvement Centre (LIC) at these institutions, which demonstrates crucial innovations in Arabic language learning. The research employs a qualitative method. Data were gathered through interviews with educators, observations of classroom practices, and analysis of curriculum documents. This methodology provided a comprehensive understanding of the LICs' impact on Arabic language education. The study identifies several key functions of the LICs: a) designing Arabic language learning programs that align with the skills students are expected to master; b) conducting regular and organized assessments of students' Arabic language proficiency; and c) developing new teaching approaches based on these assessments. These roles collectively contribute to a robust enhancement of Arabic language learning within the pesantrens. The findings highlight the LICs' effectiveness in fostering a rich and innovative Arabic language learning environment. This research underscores the importance of these centers in the broader context of Islamic education in Indonesia. Future research could explore further innovations introduced by LICs and assess their long-term impacts on students' proficiency and engagement with the Arabic language.

Abstract

This study originated from the observation of teachers employing traditional teaching methods, leading to a notable deficiency in students' proficiency in crafting fiction texts. The aim of this research is to investigate the impact of the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) learning model on the development of fiction writing skills among fifth-grade elementary students. Employing a quasi-quantitative experimental approach, this study utilizes a non-equivalent control group design, incorporating experimental and control classes. Data collection methods include observation, pretest and posttest assessments, and documentation. Data analysis involves normality testing, homogeneity of variance testing, and independent sample testing using SPSS IBM26. The findings reveal a statistically significant disparity in the average fiction writing ability between groups utilizing the RADEC model and conventional methods, with a significance value of 0.047 0.05. The noteworthy average improvement of 17.5 in students' fiction writing skills subsequent to the implementation of the RADEC learning model underscores its effectiveness, advocating for its adoption by educators, particularly for enhancing the writing proficiency of fifth-grade students.

Abstract

The development of technology is currently moving very fast. These developments affect student learning in schools. However, the teachers have not used it properly, so learning is not in accordance with the needs of students. This is also due to the limited teaching materials used. This research aims to develop the teaching materials of the unity-based E-module and its utilization. The stages started from analysis, design, development, and implementation. The instruments were used to determine the feasibility of validation sheets and questionnaires. The results of the study indicate that teaching materials are feasible to use. The assessment of media experts indicates this gets a percentage score of 88%, the assessments of material experts get a percentage score of 75%, the assessments from linguists get a percentage score of 86%, and the assessments by teachers get a percentage score of 95%. Based on the explanation of the research results above, it can be concluded that the teaching materials of Unity engine-based energy E-Module and its utilization can be used in the learning process.

Abstract

Schools play a pivotal role in fostering good character; however, issues concerning student discipline persistently challenge this educational objective. Traditional methods, such as physical logbooks for recording disciplinary infractions, have proven inefficient and ineffective. In response, this study examines a newly implemented web-based application designed to manage and disseminate information regarding disciplinary violations. Employing a descriptive qualitative research methodology, this investigation explores the functionality and impact of the web-based disciplinary system. Preliminary findings indicate that the application utilizes a points-based system to monitor and regulate student behavior, categorizing infractions and accumulating points which may result in sanctions. Additionally, the study highlights efforts by educational institutions to promote rule compliance through comprehensive engagement strategies involving students, parents, and the wider community. These strategies include extensive rule socialization and targeted individual counseling for students demonstrating challenging behaviors. This approach not only streamlines the disciplinary process but also enhances the overall educational environment by reinforcing behavioral standards and accountability.

Abstract

This case study investigates issues regarding the implementation of extensive reading (ER) and explores students’ experiences and feelings during an ER course in higher education. The participants were five female university EFL students who were selected purposively. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and respondents’ diaries and processed using the stages of an interactive model. The analysis yields two major findings. First, the students held contrasting views on ER with two respondents reporting pleasure while the other expressed motivation, joylessness, and challenge. This finding can be attributed to the lack of freedom in choosing what to read and the unfit level of reading. Second, five factors are attributed to the success of ER: love for reading/ self-motivation, freedom to choose what to read, supportive reading environment, lecturers’ guidance, and variety of ER-based activities. These findings imply that the core principles of ER should be instituted. Failure to maintain these principles may deter students’ sustained engagement in ER.

Abstract

Some experts say that critical thinking disposition is a predictor of a person's critical thinking skills. The objective of this study is to assess the extent to which students possess critical thinking disposition, in order to forecast their critical thinking abilities in the context of biology education. This study employed descriptive research using a qualitative methodology, involving 74 students from 2 classes as respondents. The instrument used is CTDBT which includes 7 indicators namely Truth-seeking, Open-mind, Analycity, Systematicity, Self-confidence, Inquisitiveness, and Maturity. The results show that students have critical thinking dispositions in the weak category for maturity indicators, medium categories for indicators of open-mindedness, analyticity, systematicity, and self-confidence, and high categories for indicators of truth-seeking and inquisitiveness. Students at the senior high school level generally have a high curiosity and are always eager to prove the truth of something, but they still seem rushed, vulnerable, and unstable, so they require the development of skills and maturity in making decisions to solve problems.
