Code-mixing has become increasingly prevalent among Generation Z, particularly in academic and social contexts. This study explored the types of code-mixing used by 8th-semester Gen Z students at Muhammadiyah University of Tangerang, Indonesia, and examined the underlying reasons for this linguistic phenomenon. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed. Data were collected through direct observation of students’ spoken interactions and open-ended interviews conducted at different times. Audio recordings of code-mixing utterances were documented and transcribed for analysis. A total of 177 code-mixing utterances were identified, consisting of three types: insertion (85.3%, 151 instances), alternation (14.7%, 26 instances), and congruent lexicalization (6.2%, 11 instances). The data suggest that insertion is the most dominant form of code-mixing among participants. Several reasons were identified for the frequent use of code-mixing. Students often engage in it unconsciously and see it as a way to improve their English language skills. Additionally, code-mixing is perceived to carry social prestige, making speakers feel confident, proud, and "cool." Social factors—such as peer influence, exposure to trends, and admiration of public figures—also contribute significantly to this behavior. The study reveals that code-mixing among Gen Z students is driven by both linguistic and sociocultural factors. These findings underscore the need to understand code-mixing not merely as a linguistic habit but as a socially influenced form of communication reflective of identity and group belonging.

Bullying among elementary school students remains a significant issue that hampers social and emotional development. This study investigates the effectiveness of a picture storybook titled “Masalah Rambut”, developed based on the Living Values Education (LVE) approach, in promoting anti-bullying behavior and enhancing civic competence among young learners. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group was employed. Participants were 68 third-grade students from SDN Ciremai Giri, Cirebon, divided equally into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received learning using the storybook and role-play activities, while the control group followed conventional instruction. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests on civic knowledge, civic skills, and civic disposition. Statistical analysis included paired t-tests and Cohen’s d to assess effectiveness. The experimental group showed significant improvements in civic competence, with p-values 0.001 across all dimensions. Effect size analysis indicated very large impacts: civic knowledge (d = 1.91), civic skills (d = 2.08), and civic disposition (d = 2.26). These gains outperformed those of the control group. Findings suggest that integrating LVE-based storybooks with interactive methods like role-play is highly effective in instilling empathy, tolerance, and responsibility. The emotional engagement offered by narratives and experiential learning fosters deeper internalization of anti-bullying values. Storybooks rooted in LVE present a promising pedagogical tool for character and citizenship education at the elementary level. Further research is needed to examine long-term impacts and broader applicability.

Teaching materials play a vital role in achieving learning objectives. However, the editorial text teaching materials used at SMK Ksatrya for Phase F do not meet students' needs, particularly for Indonesian language outcomes related to reading. Existing materials are less relevant to learning goals and technological advancements, prompting the need for digital literacy-based materials incorporating text and video that are accessible and adaptable to diverse learning environments. This study employed the Borg and Gall development model, which involves steps such as research and information collection, planning, product development, field testing, operational field testing, final revisions, and dissemination. Data were collected through validation processes and limited field testing. Digital literacy-based editorial text teaching materials were developed and validated by material experts, media experts, and Indonesian language teachers. Validation covered aspects such as content quality, presentation, language, readability, graphics, software engineering, visual design, and application features. Field testing with 36 students confirmed the materials' suitability with minor revisions addressing accessibility issues. The teaching materials effectively address students' needs by combining editorial texts with digital resources to enhance literacy and critical thinking skills. The inclusion of text and video supports diverse learning preferences, while the use of digital platforms ensures accessibility and modern relevance. Digital literacy-based teaching materials for editorial text reading are practical and impactful, fostering reading proficiency, digital literacy, and critical thinking among SMK Ksatrya students. These materials represent a significant advancement in aligning learning tools with technological and educational needs.

Leadership communication is a critical yet underexplored factor in shaping academic careers in Islamic higher education. This study investigates how authoritative and participative leadership communication influences lecturer development within Islamic universities in Jambi Province, Indonesia, amid increasing demands for professionalism and digital adaptation. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected from 13 participants across three Islamic universities through semi-structured interviews, direct observations, and document analysis. Participants included lecturers and academic leaders, selected via purposive sampling. Data were analyzed thematically using Braun and Clarke’s six-phase framework to identify patterns of leadership behavior and communication strategies. Findings reveal that authoritative and participative communication modes function synergistically. Authoritative communication offers clarity, direction, and institutional alignment, while participative communication fosters collaboration, trust, and shared governance. Digital transformation enhances opportunities for participatory communication but also presents challenges such as uneven digital literacy. Communication practices grounded in Islamic ethical values—such as syura (consultation), amanah (trust), and musyawarah (deliberation)—strengthen moral integrity and organizational cohesion. Six dimensions of communication were identified as key drivers of lecturer career development: clarity of direction, transparency, mentoring, feedback, policy evaluation, and involvement in decision-making. An integrative communication model is proposed, showing that effective leadership in Islamic higher education is not only managerial but also ethical and developmental. The study underscores the need for leadership development programs that combine Islamic ethics with digital communication competence to enhance institutional resilience and lecturer empowerment.

This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Self-Organized Learning Environment (SOLE) model in improving 10th-grade students' writing skills, compared to traditional teaching methods. The study addresses the gap in existing literature regarding how the SOLE model may enhance writing abilities, especially among students with varying levels of reading interest. The research is significant in its contribution to understanding the practical applications of SOLE in promoting critical thinking and independent learning. A quantitative experimental design was employed, involving 10th-grade students from SMAN 2 Padang during the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected through pre- and post-test assessments of students’ exposition text writing skills. Statistical analysis was performed to compare the outcomes between the experimental and control groups. The results indicated that students taught using the SOLE model demonstrated superior writing skills compared to those taught through traditional methods, regardless of their reading interest levels. The SOLE model had a particularly positive impact on both high and low reading interest students, though no significant interaction between the model and reading interest was found. These findings suggest that the SOLE model is an effective method for improving writing skills across diverse student populations. The study's implications point to the potential benefits of adopting the SOLE model in educational settings to promote independent learning and enhance writing instruction.

History learning in Indonesian high schools often relies on conventional methods, which can reduce students’ motivation and engagement. To address this issue, this study aimed to develop an innovative e-comic as a digital learning medium for teaching the history of the Banten Kingdom. The research employed a Research and Development (RD) approach using the Sugiyono model, consisting of four stages: needs analysis, product design, expert validation, and revision. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, and classroom observations involving one history teacher and ten Grade X students at SMA Muhammadiyah At Tanwir Metro. The prototype was evaluated by two material experts, two media experts, and students as end users. The needs analysis revealed that existing history learning media lacked variety and technological integration, leading to low student interest. The developed e-comic integrates narrative, visuals, and interactive features, including audio and digital navigation. Validation results indicated good feasibility: material experts rated the product at 81% (very feasible) after two validation cycles, and media experts rated it at 91% (very feasible). Student responses also showed high acceptance, with most ratings falling in the “highly suitable” category. The findings suggest that e-comics can increase students’ engagement and comprehension of historical content by combining visual and textual information, in line with multimedia learning principles. The e-comic on the Banten Kingdom is valid and feasible for classroom use, with potential to enhance historical understanding and encourage the integration of technology in history education.
