Abstract

Employees in the hospitality industry frequently face various challenges that negatively affect their psychological well-being. One of the main issues is a high workload, which often leads to significant levels of stress. This study was conducted at Swiss-Belhotel Samarinda, involving 122 permanent employees as respondents. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire based on validated indicators from previous literature. The data analysis employed a quantitative approach using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method through the SmartPLS software. This technique was selected for its ability to accommodate latent variables and mediating relationships. The results revealed that organizational commitment and employee engagement have a significant direct effect on job satisfaction. Furthermore, job satisfaction was found to mediate the relationship between organizational commitment and employee engagement with psychological well-being. Among the dimensions of organizational commitment, affective commitment had the strongest influence on job satisfaction. Similarly, the dedication dimension of employee engagement contributed most significantly to both job satisfaction and psychological well-being. The study also found that employee engagement has a direct and significant effect on psychological well-being even without the mediation of job satisfaction, highlighting the importance of emotional connection and intrinsic motivation in employees’ work experiences. Theoretically, these findings underscore that organizational commitment encompasses not only structural elements but also psychological and emotional aspects. From a managerial perspective, the results suggest that organizations should actively cultivate a work environment that supports employee engagement and strengthens affective commitment. Strategies such as career development programs, recognition of achievements, and open, supportive communication may serve as effective approaches. This study contributes to the growing body of literature on psychological well-being in the context of the hospitality industry, particularly in Indonesia. The findings are expected to serve as a valuable reference for developing strategic policies aimed at improving employees’ quality of work life, which in turn enhances organizational performance.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of meaningful work and work motivation on employee performance, as well as the mediating role of organizational commitment in this relationship. Adopting a quantitative approach, the research population consisted of 382 employees from public health centers (Puskesmas) in the Central Surabaya Region. A sample size of 195 respondents was selected, with data collected using a Likert scale questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using descriptive inferential analysis and path analysis via PLS-SEM with SmartPLS 4 software to test seven hypotheses. The results indicate that meaningful work significantly and positively influences both employee performance and organizational commitment. Similarly, work motivation has a significant positive effect on organizational commitment and employee performance. However, organizational commitment itself does not have a significant effect on employee performance. Furthermore, organizational commitment, when acting as a mediating variable between meaningful work or work motivation and employee performance, was found to have an insignificant effect. Keywords: Meaningful work; Work motivation; Performance; Commitment

Abstract

This research investigates how financial knowledge and access to financial services impact the business performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), while exploring the moderating roles of education level and MSMEs community engagement. The investigation employed a quantitative methodology utilizing Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) techniques, gathering information from 140 MSMEs entrepreneurs operating in Kediri, East Java Province. Performance evaluation using Self Assesment Method and Balanced Scorecard. Results demonstrate that financial knowledge and accessibility to financial services generate substantial positive impacts on enterprise performance. Additionally, education background serves as a significant moderator in the relationship between financial accessibility and business performance, whereas MSMEs community engagement amplifies the connection between financial knowledge and business success. Nevertheless, education level did not significantly moderate the financial performance relationship, nor did MSMEs community engagement significantly affect the financial performance connection. These outcomes indicate that importance enhanced access to and comprehension of financial services, based on education level and reinforced through community networks, can strengthen MSME sustainability and market competitiveness. The investigation provides insights for theoretical frameworks and policy development, for stakeholder empowering MSMEs through inclusive and contextually-appropriate financial access enhancement programs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of civil servant qualifications, competence, and performance on the organizational performance of local governments in 27 regencies/cities of West Java Province during the 2019–2023 period. A quantitative method using binary logistic regression to examine the relationships among variables. The results reveal that, simultaneously, the three independent variables have a significant effect on organizational performance. Partially, civil servant competence has a positive and significant influence, while civil servant qualifications show a negative in significant effect. In contrast, individual civil servant performance does not significantly affect organizational performance. These findings highlight the urgent need to reform civil service human resource management, particularly in aligning competencies, qualifications, and performance evaluation systems with key performance indicators and the evolving demands of public service delivery. This study contributes to the development of performance-based civil servant management models at the local government level.
