Abstract

Essential oils are substances that have an aroma contained in plants, these oils are usually also referred to as volatile oils and are usually in liquid form and can be isolated from plant parts such as roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruit and seeds. This research aims to determine the chemical components of kaffir lime essential oil (Citrus hystix), ylang ylang (Cananga odorata) using the GC-MS method. The conclusion from the research results is that there is a main compound produced by kaffir lime (Citrus hystix) essential oil, namely the chemical compound D-limonane (15.15%) while the chemical compound linalool contained in kaffir lime (citrus hystrix) essential oil is only 1.04 % so that the essential oil of kaffir lime (citrus hystrix) does not meet the quality standard requirements for the chemical compound linalool of 3.5-5.5%. The main compound produced by ylang-ylang oil (Cananga odorata) is the chemical compound Linalool (17.85%). In this case, efforts need to be made to improve the quality of essential oils in order to increase added value and meet the requirements for essential oil quality standards.

Abstract

Education has undergone significant changes in modern times. Students are experiencing a decline in their thinking skills, particularly in the areas of creativity and critical thinking. This is due to the monotonous nature of their learning, which has resulted in less developed thinking patterns. The EDP model aims to improve creative problem-solving skills, equip students with the ability to overcome difficulties through careful planning, and encourage learning through failure. This study describes the B-ProDe TEct (Brainstorming, Problem Solving, Design Prototype, Try, Evaluate of Conflicts) learning model, which integrates Brain-Based Learning (BBL) principles into Engineering Design Process (EDP). The model has been demonstrated to enhance creative thinking skills and improve science learning outcomes in junior high school students. The study utilizes a mixed methods research approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative methods. This approach enables a more comprehensive analysis of the research question. The practicality scores from each school, derived from the feasibility test, were 87.08%, 83.25%, and 86.67% respectively, resulting in an overall average of 85.67%. The study evaluated the effectiveness of the B-Pro DeTEct learning model on a group of 30 students. The N-gain was 0.37 at the third session and 0.55 at the fourth session, with an average N-gain of 0.46. These results suggest a moderate increase in cognitive learning outcomes before and after using the model. The study concludes that the model is valid, practical, and successful in enhancing creative thinking skills.

Abstract

Textbook studies require a focused examination, especially regarding the emphasis on inquiry in science education. Despite the widespread adoption of inquiry-based tasks, there is a notable delay in evaluation efforts. The Merdeka and 2013 curriculum actively inquiry approaches in biology learning, emphasizing the imperative role of inquiry in biology textbooks and assignments, warranting thorough evaluation. This research aims to assess learning task quality in high school biology textbooks in South Sulawesi from an inquiry perspective. Employing quantitative descriptive methods and cluster random sampling, textbooks were chosen from representative districts/cities. The most frequently used books from each class were analyzed. A total of 51 inquiry tasks were examined using the Inquiry-based Tasks Analysis Inventory (ITAI), known for its robust validity and reliability. Adapted for this study, results underscore an imbalance in inquiry process skills in one textbook and a prevalence of assignments providing activity guidance, impacting students' opportunities to practice process skills and deepen their understanding of inquiry. The findings carry implications for the limited chances students must practice process skills and enhance their comprehension of inquiry.
