Abstract

The purposes of this research were to find the character development of Isabella Linton and what are the events that influence Isabella Linton’s character development. This research applied an objectives approach and the researcher used Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights novel as the source of data. The data were taken from the dialogues between characters and narrations that indicate Isabella Linton’s character development based on Kenan’s theory and the events that influence Isabella Linton’s character development based on Griffith’s theory. The finding of this research using Kenan’s theory showed that Isabella Linton experienced character development from a spoiled and innocent young lady became a brave, responsible, and independent woman. Then, the finding using Griffith’s theory of plot showed that Isabella Linton experiences character development at the exposition events, rising action, climax, falling action, and stable situation.

Abstract

Penilitian ini merupakan penelitian menggunakan kajian resepsi sastra untuk menganalisis respons pembaca anak terhadap cerpen “Badut Terlucu” karya Sarah Nafisah. Penelitian ini memusatkan pembaca anak untuk mendeskripsikan respons pada sebuah cerpen “Badut Terlucu” karya Sarah Nafisah mengenai unsur instrinsik berupa tema, tokoh, latar, alur, gaya bahasa, dan amanat cerita. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif yakni memaparkan data berupa uraian kata dan fakta. Data penelitian berupa kuesioner diberikan 55 anak untuk mendapatkan data respons. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner berupa 20 pertanyaan dan jawaban atau respons pembaca anak untuk menganalisis. Teknik analisis data menggunakan kajian resepsi sastra metode eksperimental. Hasil penelitian ini sebagai berikut : bahwa cerpen “Badut Terlucu” karya Sarah Nafisah dalam majalah bobo menunjukkan hampir semua siswa kelas 3 dan 4 Sdadanya  memahami isi cerpen mengenai unsur instrinsik dan ketertarikan anak-anak terhadap cerpen mengenai ilustrasi dan isi cerita maka cerpen “Badut Terlucu” karya Sarah Nafisah terdapat dari respons hasil kuesioner. Bahwa cerpen “Badut Terlucu” karya Sarah Nafisah layak dan sesuai untuk dibaca anak-anak usia 7-11 tahun yakni diantaranya anak SD kelas 3 dan 4.

Abstract

Film Serigala Terakhir merupakan film aksi yang masih sangat diminati hingga sekarang. Bahkan beberapa kali film tersebut ditayangkan dan diproduksi ulang menjadi sebuah serial drama. Dialog dalam film tersebut mengandung banyak jenis variasi bahasa, mulai dari yang sopan hingga yang tidak patut digunakan. Cerita yang diangkat dalam film tersebut, yaitu tentang remaja. Sebagian besar penikmat film tersebut juga dari kalangan remaja. Pada masa tersebut, remaja umumnya menggunakan kata-kata yang populer didengar tanpa memedulikan kata tersebut baik atau tidak. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan bentuk variasi bahasa yang terdapat pada tuturan dalam dialog film Serigala Terakhir; (2) mendeskripsikan fungsi dari penggunaan variasi bahasa yang terdapat pada tuturan dalam dialog film Serigala Terakhir; dan (3) mendeskripsikan faktor penyebab terjadinya variasi bahasa yang terdapat pada tuturan dalam dialog film Serigala Terakhir. Penelitian ini tergolong penelitian kepustakaan dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan dipaparkan secara deskriptif. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tuturan yang terdapat dalam dialog antartokoh di film Serigala Terakhir yang disutradarai oleh Upi Avianto. Teknik yang digunakan, yaitu teknik simak bebas libat cakap yang dipadukan dengan teknik catat yang ditujukan untuk mendata. Adapun teknik analisis yang digunakan, yaitu teknik interaktif. Dari hasil analisis tersebut, didapatkan bahwa bentuk variasi bahasa yang paling banyak digunakan, yaitu bentuk kolokial yang disebabkan karena film berisi dialog lisan sehingga bahasanya pun bahasa komunikasi lisan dan bentuk vulgar yang dipengaruhi latar belakang sosial tokoh yang diusung. Variasi bahasa yang banyak difungsikan untuk ideasional, yaitu bentuk vulgar. Hal tersebut karena kata-kata makian tersebut umumnya ditujukan untuk mengekspresikan perasaan. Sedangkan bentuk variasi bahasa yang lain difungsikan untuk interpersonal karena hampir semua variasi bahasa pada dasarnya ditujukan untuk menjalin interaksi.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how Willy Wonka's character in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film strived to overcome his inferiority state to achieve superiority in his life using the Adlerian strategy stages of Alfred Adler's individual psychology theory. This study was qualitative research with a psychoanalysis approach. The data from this study were the actions, dialogues, and other character’s narrations that are depicted in clip scenes from the film. In analyzing the data, the researcher identified each scene that depicted the factors that influenced the feelings of inferiority that appeared in Willy Wonka's character and analyzed how Willy Wonka strived for superiority. The results of this study indicated that there is a representation of Willy Wonka's inferior feelings because of his unpleasant childhood compared to his friends who had a pleasant childhood. This feeling of Willy's inferiority is triggered by several factors namely lifestyle, parenting patterns, and birth orders. After going through a period of inferiority, Willy finally achieved success in his life goals of becoming a famous chocolate maker and making his own chocolate factory. Willy's way to overcome these inferior feelings is applying superiority complex proposed by Alfred Adler which consists of creative-self, social interest, confidence, ambition, and striving for superiority.

Abstract

Fotografi dapat dijadikan sebagai suatu media komunikasi, dokumentasi dan arsip sejarah dari suatu bangsa, yang dapat memperlihatkan bagaimana kondisi sosial dan budaya yang terjadi pada saat itu. Bangsa Indonesia memiliki ragam kebudayaan, salah satunya adalah busana etnik yang dimiliki setiap daerah di Indonesia. Tujuan penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis perkembangan dan inovasi busana etnik wanita di pulau Jawa melalui proses akulturasi budaya dan pemikiran yang panjang, melalui karya fotografi. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan metode studi literatur atau dokumentasi, dengan mengumpulkan data dari berbagai media dan dokumen. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa busana etnik yang diturunkan oleh nenek moyang kita adalah kain yang digunakan sebagai pakaian bawahan. Sedangkan kebaya, merupakan hasil akulturasi dari budaya-budaya yang dibawa oleh para pedagang timur tengah, eropa, maupun tiongkok, yang mengalami banyak perkembangan model dan menandakan terjadinya perkembangan pikiran serta rekam jejak sejarah mengenai kebudayaan yang kental di setiap daerah di pulau Jawa. Melalui karya fotografi sebagai arsip sejarah, dapat diamati bagaimana sejarah dan perkembangan busana etnik wanita di pulau Jawa dari masa ke masa.

Abstract

Code mixing as a part of multilingualism is one of interesting topics to be discussed nowadays as it is often encountered by anyone and anywhere in the present time. Code Mixing happens in real life since linguistic study is not limited to literary work only but in real life when the phenomena can be found, and one of them is in Pita’s Life Account YouTube Video. Pita’s Life Account YouTube Video contains Code Mixing of three different languages including English, Indonesian, and Manado’s Language. The focus of this research is to understand the types and reasons of code mixing that found in Pita’s Account YouTube Videos. This research is qualitative research using Code Mixing which aims to identify types and reason of Code Mixing in Pita’s Life Account YouTube Video. The theories in this research are Code Mixing by Holmes (2013), Muysken (2000) and Hockett (1958). The researcher did the research through library research, and descriptive approach while doing observation to collect the data. The result shows that Code mixing analysis on this research is found some data from types of insertion of phrase and words, alternation and congruent lexicalizations. Then the researcher also found some data from the reason of need filling motive and prestige filling motive.

Abstract

Feminism examines every gender gap, from identity, discrimination, and exploitation. One of the focuses in the study of gender identity is gender struggle and being present in novels. This research discusses the gender struggle for female characters, namely Lily Bart in Edith Wharton's novel The House of Mirth. The purpose of this study is to identify the existence of gender struggles experienced by the character of Lily Bart and describe the development of characters in these struggles. This research uses qualitative research methodology and gender struggle studies. Furthermore, the theory used in gender struggle includes several experts (Paddy MacQueen, Bell Hooks, several other experts) and Jonathan Webber's theory of character development. In this case, the forms of struggle are characterized in character development analysis which seeks to find changes in the character of Lily Bart and its correlation to her struggle. The development of the character of Lily Bart is described in three phases. In the initial phase introduces the main objectives, the second phase changes due to conflict and challenges, and the third phase becomes the result of character change. The results showed that the character of Lily Bart as the main character in the novel shows a gender struggle. The forms of gender struggle that are experienced include facts of life, dream, love and affection. In this case, the forms of struggle are characterized in character development analysis which seeks to find changes in the character of Lily Bart and its correlation to her struggle.

Abstract

This study aims to find out some of the Archetypes personality that exist in Einar Wegener’s character, based on the Archetypes personality theory that conducted by Carl Jung. This study also aims to discuss more deeply about the main character which is Einar Wegener who has several Archetypes personality tendencies in him. The Archetypes personality itself is a concept of a subconscious collection that has existed in every human being since ancient times. This research uses descriptive qualitative method in applying the Archetypes personality theory to Einar Wegener’s character in the novel. The data from this study were taken from the novel entitled The Danish Girl by David Ebershoff. This study reveals that there are five dominant Archetypes in Einar’s personality, namely Persona, Shadow, Anima, Hero and Self. As for the characterization of the five archetypes, it is concluded that Einar is someone who overthinking, selfish, feminine, brave and confident.

Abstract

This research analyzed Langston Hughes’ novel Not Without Laughter. The novel was published in1930. The novel talks about the condition of the black American family in the early twentieth century. This research discussed the issue of rejective behaviors occurring towards white people towards African-American family life. Meanwhile, the researcher focused on analyzing two research questions. First, the researcher analyzes the kinds of rejective behavior portrayed in Not Without Laughter novel. Second, the researcher analyzed how the responses of black people characters towards the rejective behavior portrayed in Not Without Laughter novel. Under the paradigm of qualitative research, this research employed a mimetic approach. The data were obtained from words, sentences, clauses, phrases, and paragraphs that are related to the act of rejective behaviors experienced by African-American people and their reaction toward these rejective behaviors that are suitable with Allport’s theory. The results of this research showed that there are three types of rejective behavior they are verbal rejection, discrimination, and physical attack. The results also showed that the response of rejective behavior toward African-American family life in the novel are obsessive concern response, withdrawal and passivity response, clowning response, self-hate response, sympathy response, and fighting back response. From the results it can be implied that both male and female characters responded differently to the rejective behaviour that happened to them.

Abstract

This research analyzes the principle behind the socialist feminism movement through the female characters in Cherry Orchard drama. Socialist feminism becomes the struggle to get equal in social and economic. This research classifies the female characters into four principles behind the socialist feminism movement, that uses the socialist feminism theory by Mandell. This research uses the qualitative-descriptive method to analyze the principles behind socialist feminism through the four female characters' experiences in Cherry Orchard drama. There are four principles behind the socialist feminism movement those are women’s position, women’s rights, women’s role, and women’s participation.
