Abstract

Background: Obesity is a risk factor for metabolic syndrome which can increase mortality. Obese sufferers often fail to lose body weight (BW) through non-pharmacological therapy. Obesity synthetic drugs can cause side effects, so natural ingredients are needed as alternative therapies.Objectives: This study aims to determine the effect of raja banana peel extract (RBPE) on BW, body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage (BFP), and visceral fat mass in obese male rats.Methods: The research subjects were 30 male Wistar rats weighing 125-200 g, aged eight weeks. Obesity was induced by being given high-fat high fructose (HFHFr) feed for 28 days. Rats were randomized and divided into five groups: the negative control group (C-) was given standard feed and distilled water, the positive control (C+) was given standard feed and orlistat, treatment 1 (T1), treatment 2 (T2), and treatment 3 (T3). Which were given standard feed and RBPE doses of 200 mg/kgBW/day, 400 mg/kgBW/day, and 800 mg/kgBW/day. Data before and after the induction of obesity were analyzed using paired t-tests. BW, BMI, and visceral fat mass were analyzed using the One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Repeated Measure ANOVA tests. BFP was analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and the Friedman test.Results: RBPE can significantly reduce BW (p=0.026), BMI (p<0.001), and BFP (p<0.001). However, all groups had no significant difference in visceral fat mass (p=0.187). T3 was the group with the lowest average BW, BMI, BFP, and visceral fat mass although the highest weight loss during the intervention period occurred in C+.Conclusions: RBPE has the potential as an alternative therapy for obesity because it can reduce BW, BMI, and BFP. Future studies can investigate the effect of RBPE on other obesity parameters such as lipid profiles.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: The prevalence of Protein Energy Deficiency (PED) has increased over the past decade. Inadequate food intake and infectious diseases are the primary causes of PED. Clinical management of toddlers with PED often involves costly commercial foods. Ganyong, catfish, and red beans as local food ingredients with high nutritional content have the potential to be additional food for children with PED.Objectives: This study aims to examine the effect of GANIME formula form and it’s efficacy on body mass index (BMI) and albumin levels in the rats model with PED.Methods: The study consisted of two phases: analyzing the proximate content of GANIME and conducting in vivo research using ten male Wistar rats aged 3 weeks (50-100 grams). The rats were randomly divided into two groups, G1 (GANIME pellets) and G2 (GANIME porridge), and were observed for 14 days. Body weight (BW), BMI, and albumin were measured before and after treatment. Paired t-tests were conducted to compare pre-and post-treatment results, while inter-group differences were assessed using One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) tests.Results: The results showed that the optimal GANIME formula was identified at P3, with the highest protein and energy  content. The G1 group of rats experienced a greater increase in body weight and BMI than the G2 group of rats but the increase was not significant (p > 0.05). Each group did not differ statistically significantly (0.644). Albumin in each group experienced a non-significant decrease (p > 0.05) and the two were not statistically different (0.690).Conclusions: Administering the GANIME formula in pellet form exhibited superior efficacy because it’s consumed more so it can increase body weight and BMI, and produce a lower decrease in albumin levels in rats model with PED. KEYWORD: protein-energy deficiency (PED), albumin, body mass index (BMI), local food, GANIME formula

Abstract

Background: In 2018, 32% of teenagers in Indonesia experienced anemia due to iron deficiency. Adolescence is one of the periods characterized by accelerated growth and development, leading to increased iron requirements in the body. Healthy and nutritious foods, including snacks, can be significant contributors to meeting the nutritional needs of iron-deficient teenagers. Red beans and raisins are among the food ingredients that can increase iron levels in the body; therefore, these food ingredients can be processed into the filling of a mochi that contains relatively high iron content.Objectives: The aim of this study is to determine the acceptance and iron content of red bean and raisin-filled mochi.Methods: This research is an experimental study. Acceptance testing was conducted organoleptically using a hedonic test method. The acceptance testing was conducted on 30 untrained panelists, namely female teenagers from SMAS Kesuma Bangsa Londut, and nutritional content analysis was performed at the Medan Industrial Research and Standardization Institute Laboratory. This research was conducted from January to March 2024.Results: Organoleptic test results showed that the panelists liked the color, aroma, texture, and taste of the red bean and raisin-filled mochi. The iron content test results in 120 grams of the product showed 37.4 mg. The red bean and raisin-filled mochi given to the panelists was 30 grams, meaning it contained 9.35 mg of iron.Conclusions: Red bean and raisin-filled mochi have good acceptance among teenage girls and also contain relatively high iron content.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Kebutuhan terapi hemodialisis (HD) masih terus berkembang. Di Indonesia, HD mewakili 82% dari pelayanan cuci darah di Puskesmas Indonesia. Namun, HD menyebabkan peningkatan penanda inflamasi serta perubahan profil lipid. Kombinasi vitamin E dan asam lemak omega-3 dapat membantu mengurangi indikator inflamasi dan meningkatkan profil lipid.Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh co-suplementasi vitamin E dan omega-3 terhadap profil lipid dan indikator inflamasi.Metode: Penelitian ini dilakukan di PubMed dan Google Scholar untuk mencari artikel-artikel secara sistematis, Kriteria inklusi yang digunakan adalah artikel bahasa Inggris dengan uji coba terkontrol acak (RCT) dan uji coba terkontrol (CT) yang menyelidiki efek vitamin E dan omega-3 pada profil lipid dan penanda inflamasi pasien hemodialisis. Semua artikel harus diterbitkan antara September 2013 - September 2022. AM dan AA melakukan seluruh proses penelitian sebagai reviewer dan seluruh ketidaksetujuan diselesaikan bersama NH sebagai penulis ketiga.Hasil: 1020 studi diidentifikasi dari database dan 12 artikel terpilih berdasarkan kriteria inklusi. Asam lemak omega-3 meningkatkan profil lipid, seperti kolesterol, LDL, HDL, dan trigliserida. Namun, studi ini hanya menemukan satu penelitian tentang efek vitamin E pada profil lipid. Asam lemak Omega-3 dan suplementasi vitamin E tidak memiliki efek signifikan pada penanda inflamasi, tetapi dampak suplementasi vitamin E pada tingkat IL-6 telah dilaporkan.Kesimpulan: Co-suplementasi Omega-3 dan vitamin E berpengaruh pada penurunan level indikator inflamasi dan profil lipid pasien hemodialisis. Kami merekomendasikan bahwa studi berikutnya harus berfokus pada penelitian uji klinis mengenai pengaruh suplementasi kombinasi ini terhadap indikator inflamasi dan profil lipid pasien hemodialisis. KATA KUNCI: hemodialisis; indikator inflamasi; omega-3; profil lipid; vitamin E ABSTRACTBackground: Hemodialysis therapy (HD) demands is still growing. In Indonesia, HD represents 82% of dialysis services in Indonesian health centers. However, HD causes an increase in inflammatory markers as well as lipid profile changes. The combination of vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids can assist to decrease inflammatory indicators and enhance lipid profiles.Objectives: This study aims to investigate the effect of co-supplementation of vitamin E and omega-3 on lipid profiles and indicators of inflammation.Methods: This study was conducted on PubMed and Google Scholar to search articles systematically. The inclusion criteria used were English articles of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and controlled trials (CT) that investigated the effects of vitamin E and omega-3 on lipid profiles and inflammatory markers of hemodialysis patients. All articles must be published between September 2013 - September 2022. AM and AA conducted the entire research process as reviewers and all disagreements were finalized with NH as a third author.Results: 1020 studies were identified from databases. Afterward, this study included 12 articles based on the inclusion criteria. Omega-3 fatty acids improve lipid profiles, such as cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglyceride. While we only found a single study about the effect of vitamin E on lipid profile. Furthermore, omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E supplementation have no significant effect on inflammatory markers, but the impact of vitamin E supplementation on IL-6 levels was reported.Conclusions: Co-supplementation of omega-3 and vitamin E decrease levels of inflammatory indicators and lipid profiles in hemodialysis patients. We recommend that future studies should focus on clinical trials to investigate the effect of this co-supplementation on lipid profiles and inflammatory markers of hemodialysis patients. KEYWORD: hemodialysis; inflammatory markers; lipid profiles; omega-3, vitamin E

Abstract

ABSTRAKLatar Belakang: Kelelahan merupakan salah satu masalah yang sering dialami oleh olahragawan. Biasanya terjadi pada aktivitas anaerobik karena intensitas yang tinggi dan membutuhkan energi cepat dalam waktu yang singkat. Pemberian jus buah semangka merah (Citrullus lanatus) diharapkan mampu menurunkan kelelahan otot. Tujuan: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh pemberian jus buah semangka merah terhad ap indeks kelelahan otot. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan desain eksperimental semu dengan rancangan randomized post test only group with crossover dengan membandingkan pengaruh pemberian jus buah semangka merah. Subjek penelitian ini yaitu anggota bimbingan meraih cita-cita (MCC). Luaran utama pada penelitian ini adalah indeks kelelahan otot yang diukur dengan menggunakan Running-based Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST). Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan uji independent t test. Hasil: Ada perbedaan indeks kelelahan otot anaerobik pada kelompok perlakuan sebesar 2,55 sedangkan pada kelompok kontrol sebesar 3,75. Pada penelitian ini terjadi peningkatan kategori indeks kelelahan otot dari yang rata-rata subjek memiliki kategori cukup menjadi kategori baik, dan ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada kelompok perlakuan dan kelompok kontrol secara statistik (p=0,004). Kesimpulan: Jus buah semangka merah dapat menurunkan angka indeks kelelahan otot anaerobic pada anggota bimbingan MCC. Penelitian selanjutnya dapat meneliti mengenai perbedaan indeks kelelahan otot anaerobik dengan pemeriksaan kadar asam laktat. The administration of red watermelon juice (Citrullus lanatus) is expected to be able to reduce muscle fatigue. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to assess the effects of providing red watermelon juice on muscle fatigue. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a randomized post-test-only group with a crossover design by comparing the effects of delivering red watermelon juice to subjects. Subjects of this study were MCC (Meraih Cita Cita) tutoring members. The primary outcome was the index of anaerobic muscle fatigue that was measured by the Running-based Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST). Data analysis was conducted using an independent t-test. Results: There was a difference in the index of anaerobic muscle fatigue in the treatment group 2.55, while in the control group 3.75. In this study, there was an increase in the category of muscle fatigue index from an average of subjects having a fairly good category to a good category, and there was a significant difference in the treatment group and control group statistically (p=0.004). Conclusion:  Red watermelon juice can reduce the rate of anaerobic muscle fatigue. Further research can examine the differences in anaerobic muscle fatigue index with lactate acid examination. Abstract

Background: Stunting is a nutritional problem that has a long-term impact. It has an impact on children's cognitive and physical development, serious infections, and makes a significant contribution to mortality and morbidity. According to WHO, the stunting rate in Indonesia is still high (30.8%). Maternal nutritional status contributes to fetal growth restriction which increases the risk of low birth weight and increases the risk of stunting. Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationship between maternal nutritional status during pregnancy and stunting in children aged 6-23 months in Karawang Regency. Methods: This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional design. The number of samples was 207 children aged 6-23 months in Srikamulyan village, Karawang regency. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire to determine the identity of the child, the identity of the mother, the nutritional status of the child, the history of the nutritional status of the mother during pregnancy, and sociodemographic data. Anthropometric measurements of the mother's height using a microtoise and the child's body length using a length board. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis. Results: The results showed that as many as 23.67% of children aged 6-23 months experienced stunting in Srikamulyan Village. Mothers who experience Chronic Energy Malnutrition during pregnancy as much as 8.2%. Data analysis showed that mothers with Chronic Energy Malnutrition during pregnancy were associated with stunting in children aged 6-23 months (p<0.05).Conclusions: Chronic Energy Malnutrition during pregnancy is associated with the incidence of stunting in children aged 6-23 months. Prevention efforts from adolescent girls are an important key in improving the nutritional status of women of childbearing age and pregnant women in order to prevent stunting

Abstract

ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Peningkatan prevalensi obesitas menjadi masalah kesehatan yang serius sehingga diperlukan terapi alternatif. Gambir mengandung katekin yang memiliki sifat antiobesitas yang dapat digunakan sebagai terapi alternatif.Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh intervensi ekstrak gambir terhadap berat badan dan leptin pada tikus model obesitas.Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian labolatorik dengan rancangan pre-post test. Subjek penelitian yaitu tikus wistar jantan dengan jumlah 36 ekor. Tikus dibagi menjadi 6 kelompok yaitu KN (tikus sehat), K- (tikus obesitas), KP (tikus obesitas diberi Orlistat 10,8 mg/200gBB/hari), P1 (tikus obesitas diberi ekstrak gambir 20 mg/200gBB/hari), P2 (tikus obesitas diberi ekstrak gambir 40 mg/200gBB/hari), dan P3 (tikus obesitas diberi ekstrak gambir 80 mg/200gBB/hari). Data penelitian dianalisis menggunakan software SPSS versi 23.0. Uji beda kelompok dilakukan dengan One-way ANOVA jika data berdistribusi normal dan Kruskall Wallis jika data tidak berdistribusi normal.Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna rerata berat badan (p=0,000) dan kadar leptin (p=0,001) antar kelompok tikus. Kelompok P3 memiliki rerata berat badan dan kadar leptin yang paling rendah, bahkan melampaui kelompok K+ dan mendekati kelompok KN.Kesimpulan: Intervensi ekstrak gambir dosis 80mg/200gBB/hari pada tikus obesitas dapat menurunkan perolehan berat badan dan menurunkan kadar leptin.KATA KUNCI: berat badan; gambir; katekin; leptin; obesitas ABSTRACT Background: The increasing prevalence of obesity is a serious health problem that requires alternative therapy. Gambir contains catechins with anti-obesity properties that can be used as an alternative therapy.Objectives: This study aims to analyze the effect of gambier extract intervention on body weight and leptin in obese rat models.Methods: This research was laboratory research with a pre-post-test design. The research subjects were male Wistar rats with a total of 36 rats. Rats were divided into 6 groups, namely KN (healthy rats), K- (obese rats), KP (obese rats given Orlistat 10.8 mg/200gBB/day), P1 (obese rats given gambir extract 20 mg/200gBW/day), P2 (obese rats given gambir extract 40 mg/200gBW/day), and P3 (obese rats given gambir extract 80 mg/200gBW/day). Research data were analyzed using SPSS software version 23.0. The different group tests were carried out using One-way ANOVA if the data were normally distributed and Kruskall Wallis if the data were not normally distributed.Results: The results showed a significant difference in mean body weight (p=0.000) and leptin levels (p=0.001) between groups of rats. The P3 group had the lowest average body weight and leptin levels, surpassing the K+ group and approaching the KN group.Conclusions: Gambir extract intervention at 80mg/200gBW/day in obese rats can decrease weight gain and reduce leptin levels.KEYWORDS : body weight; catechin; gambir; leptin; obesity

Abstract

ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Salah satu masalah yang sering dialami oleh pekerja pabrik adalah penurunan produktivitas kerja yang disebabkan oleh pola makan yang kurang maupun status gizi yang buruk atau berlebih. Penurunan produktivitas kerja akan berdampak buruk bagi perusahaan.Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran status gizi sebagai mediator antara pola makan dan produktivitas kerja pada pekerja di Pabrik X. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kuantitatif dengan rancangan Cross Sectional. Populasi penelitian ini sebanyak 206 pekerja pabrik. Sampel pada penelitian ini yaitu 136 peserta dengan Teknik Simple Random Sampling. Penelitian ini dilakukan bulan Agustus 2022 di salah satu Pabrik Daerah Palur, Karanganyar. Analisis data pada penelitian ini menggunakan Path Analysis. Hasil: Hasil penelitian ada hubungan secara langsung antara pola makan dengan produktivitas kerja (β=0.332;p=0.000), antara status gizi dengan produktivitas kerja (β=-0.284;p=0.001) pola makan dengan status gizi (β=0.421;p=0.000), maupun peran status gizi dalam hubungan idak langsung antara pola makan dengan produktivitas kerja (β=-0.119;p=0.006). Kesimpulan: Status gizi terbukti berperan sebagai mediator dalam hubungan pola makan dengan produktivitas kerja. KATA KUNCI: pola makan; produktivitas kerja; status gizi   ABSTRACTBackground: One of the problems that is often experienced by workers is a decrease in work productivity caused by an inadequate dietary pattern or poor or excessive status. A decrease in work productivity will have a negative impact on the company.Objective: This study aimed to analyze the role of nutritional status as a mediator between dietary patterns and work productivity in workers at Factory X.Methods: This study used a type of quantitative research with a cross- sectional design. The population of this study was 206 factory workers. The samples in this study were 136 participants using a Simple Random Sampling Technique. This research was conducted in August 2022 at one of the Palur Regional Factories, Karanganyar. Data analysis in this study used Path Analysis.Results: The results showed that there was a direct relationship between dietary pattern and work productivity (β=0.332;p=0.000), between nutritional status and work productivity (β=-0.284;p=0.001), dietary pattern and nutritional status (β=0.421;p=0.000), and the role of nutritional status in the indirect relationship between dietary pattern and work productivity (β=0.119;p=0.006).Conclusion: Nutritional status is proven as a mediator between dietary patterns and work productivity.KEYWORDS: dietary patterns; nutritional status; work productivity

Abstract

ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Saat ini, Indonesia masih menghadapi permasalahan stunting yang cukup tinggi dibandingkan dengan negara lain, termasuk di Asia Tenggara. Oleh karena itu, pemerintah melakukan program percepatan penurunan stunting melalui program spesifik dan sensitif yang melibatkan banyak sektor. Berbagai strategi disusun dengan sasaran prioritas pada kelompok ibu hamil dan anak usia 0-2 tahun dalam gerakan 1.000 HPK (Hari Pertama Kehidupan). Salah satu penyebab langsung stunting adalah rendahnya kualitas konsumsi makanan, yang dimulai sejak ibu hamil sampai anak usia dua tahun.   Tujuan: Penelitian ini secara umum bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas program Nutrimenu terhadap pengetahuan, sikap, dan praktik ibu-ibu.Metode: Desain penelitian ini adalah pre-post intervention study yang secara khusus menganalisis perubahan pengetahuan, sikap, praktik sebelum dan setelah program Nutrimenu.   Program tersebut berupa edukasi gizi yang diberikan kepada ibu-ibu yang mempunyai anak batita/balita/usia sekolah, ibu hamil, ibu menyusui, dan calon pengantin.  Sebanyak 517 ibu-ibu dipilih dari 12.000 sasaran program yang berasal dari 4 kabupaten. Hasil: Terdapat 53% ibu-ibu peserta program yang mengalami peningkatan skor pengetahuan tentang gizi seimbang. Sebagian besar ibu-ibu (54%) mengalami peningkatan nilai skor sikap positif tentang gizi seimbang. Terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan jumlah ibu-ibu yang dapat mempraktikkan konsumsi pangan harian sesuai pedoman isi piringku, yaitu dari 13% menjadi 20% setelah program (p<0.05). Kesimpulan: Secara umum program Nutrimenu berhasil meningkatan pengetahuan, sikap, dan praktik gizi seimbang pada ibu-ibu peserta. Peningkatan ini berpotensi menjadi langkah preventif yang penting dalam pencegahan stunting. KATA KUNCI: edukasi; gizi; isi piringku; perilaku; seimbang ABSTRACT  Background: Currently, Indonesia is still facing a high stunting problem compared to other countries, including Southeast Asia. Therefore, the government is implementing a program to accelerate stunting reduction through specific and sensitive programs involving many sectors. Various strategies were prepared with priority targets for the group of pregnant women and children aged 0-2 years in the 1,000 HPK (first day of life) movement. One of the direct causes of stunting is low quality food consumption, which starts from pregnant women to children aged two years.Objectives: This study generally aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Nutrimenu program on the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of women of mothers.Method: The research design is a pre-post intervention study which specifically analyzes changes in knowledge, attitudes, practices before and after the Nutrimenu program. The program takes the form of nutritional education provided to mothers who have toddlers/school age children, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and prospective brides and grooms. A total of 517 mothers were selected from 12,000 program targets in 4 districts. Results: There were 53% of mothers participating in the program who experienced an increase in knowledge cores about balanced nutrition. Most mothers (54%) experienced an increase in positive attitude scores regarding balanced nutrition. There was a significant increase in the number of mothers who were able to practice daily food consumption according to the contents of My Plate guidelines, namely from 13% to 20% after the program (p<0.05).Conclusion: In general, the Nutrimenu has succeeded in increasing the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of balanced nutrition among participating mothers. Abstract

Background: Child undernutrition has been a global problem that could be potentially treated with the support of food for special medical purposes, including oral nutrition supplements (ONS). This literature review aims to examine the effectiveness of ONS on growth indicators, length of stay, and the occurrence of adverse events and explore the cost-effectiveness of ONS. Methods: This review summarized findings from 16 articles. The articles were experimental, with or without comparison or control group, and examine nutrition status, other outcomes directly or indirectly related to malnutrition, and cost-effectiveness. Articles were collected from electronic database including PubMed, ProQuest, and Google Scholar with additional articles from Google search engine.Results: Some articles reported that ONS administration, good ONS consumption, and higher ONS density resulted in weight and height gain, improvements in nutrition status, and shorter length of stay compared to those who don’t receive ONS, had poor ONS consumption, and had lower ONS density, although several adverse events of ONS consumption such as gastrointestinal symptoms, diarrhea, and vomiting were also recorded. Conclusion: Studies on the cost-effectiveness of ONS are limited, yet available studies suggest ONS might potentially be a cost-effective nutrition intervention in child malnutrition treatment due to its relatively low cost which potentially reduces direct medical costs.
