Abstract

Background: Social relationships are a development that has an urgency to form good interactions from an early age. However, it was found that children at Miftahul Jannah Kindergarten in South Aceh still had difficulty making friends with their peers, often being alone and not gathering together.Aim: Therefore, the engrang batok game aims to determine its effect on children's social relationships in kindergarten.Method: This quantitative research with a pre-experimental design uses a one group pretest and posttest approach. The research sample consisted of 15 children from class A using a total sampling technique. Data was obtained through observation sheets and documentation and then analyzed using the SPSS 20 application to determine normality tests and hypothesis tests. Results: The results showed that the normality test had a normal distribution, the t-test calculation had a value of 15.94, and the t-table had a value of 1.761. Based on these results, it can be said that Tcount > Ttable means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Conclusion: Therefore, it can be concluded that the engrang batok game can influence the development of children's social relationships at Miftahul Jannah Kindergarten, South Aceh.

Abstract

Background: Social Emotional Learning (SEL) has become an important part that needs to be accomplished from an early age. However, the issue of implementing learning in kindergarten has not been widely researched, especially when viewed from the challenges and solutions for teachers. Social emotional learning is an important agenda at GIS 3 Yogyakarta to lay a solid foundation for children's personality and behavior.Aim: This research aims to examine the challenges and solutions for SEL at Global Islamic School 3 Yogyakarta.Method: This study employed qualitative methods with semi-structured interviews of five teachers. Data analysis includes the process of data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions/verification. The validity of the data was tested through source triangulation and technical triangulation. Results: The results of the research show that the challenges faced by teachers are the exclusive environment for children, parental care, and lack of control over the use of gadgets. Next, the teacher determines a solution, namely implementing various activities such as morning sharing, class agreements, taking turns appearing in front of the class, new and exciting games, giving reward stars, group work, circle time, market day, show and tell, cooperative games, reading stories or fairy tales, projects with parents, school habituation programs, as well as parenting and collaborating with parents regarding children's use of gadgets. Creative teachers are prudent. They have good personal and professional well-being. Conclution: Collaboration with parents needs to be improved so that social-emotional abilities increase.

Abstract

Background : The prevalence of autism in Indonesia has risen significantly in recent years, requiring targeted interventions to address developmental challenges. Special education institutions like TKLB River Kids play a crucial role in equipping autistic children with essential life skills to enhance their independence and quality of life. The TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Associated Communication Handicapped Children) method has been widely recognized for its structured approach tailored to the unique needs of autistic individuals. This study examines the implementation of the TEACCH method at TKLB River Kids to explore its impact on developing life skills among autistic children.Aim : The study aims to analyze the application of the TEACCH method in honing life skills among autistic children at TKLB River Kids, identifying the influencing factors and the outcomes of this intervention.Method : This qualitative study employed a case study design to deeply explore the implementation of the TEACCH method. Data collection involved a one-month observation, interviews with three teachers and one therapist, and documentation analysis at TKLB River Kids. Triangulation techniques were used to validate the data, and Miles and Huberman's interactive model was applied for analysis. Results : The findings reveal that the TEACCH method, utilizing visual schedules, independent work systems, and structured task organization, significantly improved life skills such as self-care, communication, motor development, and social interaction. Internal factors like children’s motivation and cognitive abilities, as well as external factors including parental support and the availability of visual aids, influenced the program’s success. Improvements in emotional regulation, task completion, and independence were observed, with parents and educators reporting reduced stress and enhanced family dynamics. Conclusion : The structured implementation of the TEACCH method at TKLB River Kids has effectively fostered independence and life skills development in autistic children. The collaborative approach involving schools and families highlights the potential for broader application in special education settings, offering a sustainable model for enhancing the well-being of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Abstract

Background: In the 21st century, the use of technology among children has grown rapidly, making screen time an essential aspect of their language development.Aim: This study aims to explore the impact of exposure to English-language cartoons on the language abilities of preschool children, specifically for S, a 5-year-old child.Method: The research method used is qualitative, employing observation and interview techniques involving S's parents and caregivers as subjects. Data were collected through direct observation and in-depth interviews to understand S's parenting patterns and the use of screen time in daily life. This study offers a new perspective by exploring the impact of unintentional exposure to English-language media as an innovative language acquisition strategy, particularly in the context of early childhood in Indonesia, where similar studies are scarce. Results: The research results indicate that although S experiences speech delays, exposure to English-language cartoons through screen time positively contributes to the development of their English language skills. Interventions by the parents, such as bilingual communication and speech therapy, have accelerated the improvement of these language skills. Conclusion: This study concludes that directed media exposure, supported by active parental involvement, can enhance children's language skills despite initial challenges. Thus, the study emphasizes the importance of effective supervision and management of screen time to support optimal language development.

Abstract

Background: Early childhood is a critical period for language and communication development. Deaf children often face significant challenges in acquiring articulation skills due to hearing impairments, which impact their ability to communicate effectively. Despite various interventions, there remains a need for effective, evidence-based strategies to support these skills.Aim: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of picture media in improving articulation skills in children with hearing impairments. By focusing on articulation rather than broader language skills, this research addresses a gap in existing literature.Method: A qualitative approach was employed, involving observations, interviews, and documentation to collect data over six months. The study analyzed changes in articulation skills in a deaf child before and after interventions using picture media. Instruments included standardized articulation tests and feedback from parents and teachers.Result: Findings reveal that picture media significantly enhance articulation skills, enabling children to associate sounds with visual cues effectively. Specific improvements were observed in the pronunciation of vowels and consonants, with gradual progress in constructing syllables and words. Unlike prior studies that primarily explore vocabulary development or general communication in deaf children, this research uniquely focuses on the direct impact of picture media on articulation skills. The study offers evidence-based insights for developing targeted educational interventions for children with hearing impairments. Conclusion: This study confirms the importance of using visual media, especially pictures, in the learning of children with hearing loss. This approach is not only effective in improving articulation skills but also supports children's optimal communication potential. Thus, picture media can be an important tool in inclusive education for deaf children.
