Abstract

Waste glass constitutes significant landfill waste, leading to environmental concerns. Considering its chemical composition, glass powder contains 50% to 60% silica, making it suitable for construction materials. Consequently, this community service initiative introduced waste glass as a building material, serving as a partial substitute for sand in construction products. In addition, the activity involved teaching partners how to create castings/road gates utilizing waste glass. The target partners in this activity were productive business groups engaged in selling wind holes, well rings, rosters, and similar products. The approach applied involved socialization and hands-on practices at the partner's premises. The program's success was obtained through interviews and product compressive strength tests with the partners. The outcomes demonstrate the partners' keen interest in the activity, their understanding of the benefits of utilizing waste glass as a partial sand replacement, and their ability to create products. Notably, the compressive strength of the products created with the partners ranged from 24.72 MPa to 30.84 MPa, aligning with the SNI 03-2442-1991 standard for road curbs (30 MPa). The activity positively impacted the partners, enhancing their business prospects and contributing to environmental sustainability. The training helps in enhancing the partners' skills and capabilities.

Abstract

Kitchen wastewater management near Bincau Irrigation Embankment is a major environmental issue. To address this concern, we held a community engagement program to teach wastewater management and install a floating, four-chamber Simple Grease Trap (GASTDAR). Fats, oils, Total Suspended Solids (TSS), and Chemical Oxygen Demand were measured before and after GASTDAR deployment to assess water quality. GASTDAR decreased lipids and oils 64.3%, TSS 53.7%, and COD 55.7%. Restaurant owners and employees' wastewater management knowledge and attitudes increased dramatically. Finally, GASTAR's unique design reduced the environmental impact of kitchen wastewater, improving the water ecosystem near the Bincau Irrigation Embankment.

Abstract

The closing of the Implementation of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM) during the Covid-19 pandemic by the government in Indonesia became the starting point for the rise of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) actors. So, to run a business again, MSMEs need marketing innovations that are adapted to technological advances. However, not many of MSME business actors use digital media technology for marketing their products. Therefore, this community service activity aims to provide knowledge and training in advertising design photography as a brand management strategy and as well as marketing communications to MSME business actors in Jatinegara Kaum. The training begins with an explanation regarding effective business communication when marketing a product or service. After that, it was continued by providing material related to soft selling techniques in brand management which was then carried out in practice. The method of implementing this training is carried out with questions and answers, demonstrations, direct practice and evaluation. The results of this training show that using a camera as a product promotion tool does not require a high price. Instead, MSME business actors can use their cellphones to take photos of these products with the right technique.

Abstract

The canteen has a crucial role in delivering halal, safe, and healthy food as well as environmental protection. However, many processed food microentrepreneurs lack halal certification for their products and do not effectively manage waste. Registration for halal certification has been challenging due to a lack of education, information, and dedication. Tertiary institutions should provide training on product halal assurance systems, technical registration of halal certification through a self-declaring scheme, and 3R-based waste management (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) as a form of community service so that they can become eco-friendly halal canteens. This is consistent with the concept of rahmatan lil alamin. Questionnaire distribution is used to test the measurement of training results. Following the training, it was discovered that participants' knowledge of halal products, how to acquire halal certification, and waste management had improved. Canteen microentrepreneurs demonstrate their willingness to apply for halal certification and execute 3R-based waste management.

Abstract

Effective speaking skills are a crucial aspect in the world of education, especially for teachers as learning facilitators. However, there is a problem in terms of the lack of speaking skills that can attract the attention of the public and students in the class. This Community Service aims to overcome this problem by organizing formal emcee training for teachers. The solving method is carried out through intensive training that focuses on developing persuasive speaking skills, setting clear presentation structures, and increasing confidence when speaking in public. The training involves the active participation of teachers who wish to improve their speaking skills. The results of the service activities showed a significant increase in the speaking skills of the teachers after attending the training. They are able to captivate the public's attention with an attractive presentation style, deliver messages more effectively, and maintain positive interactions with listeners. In addition, the teachers also experienced an increase in self-confidence when appearing in public. In conclusion, formal presenter training is an effective method of improving speaking skills for teachers. Public speaking skills help create a more interactive learning environment and inspire students. It is hoped that the development of speaking skills will have a positive impact on the learning process and enhance the school's reputation in the educational community.

Abstract

The lack of understanding about macapat songs among teachers and the lack of an effective learning model for teaching macapat songs to students was the background of this activity. This activity aimed to improve the ability of macapat songs with a direct approach for teachers at SD Kanisius Sorowajan Yogyakarta. The direct learning approach was an approach that provided opportunities for students to learn by observing, researching, and imitating the actions exemplified by the teacher in class. The ability of macapat songs was described in four indicators, namely scope, preservation, notation, and classification of macapat songs. The method used in this activity was a participatory assessment involving 11 teachers from SD Kanisius Sorowajan Yogyakarta. The results of the activity showed 1) an increase in pretest to posttest scores of 76.70%, 2) a significant effect on the teacher's macapat song ability (p < 0.05) which was included in the large effect category (r = 0.9552), and 3 ) a high level of effectiveness of the training implemented (n-gain score 76.09%).
