Abstract

This study investigates how the integration of YouTube and artificial intelligence (AI) tools enhances students’ extensive listening skills in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts. The research addresses a key issue in digital language learning: while students frequently use YouTube for exposure to authentic language, the absence of structured scaffolding and strategy instruction often limits comprehension gains. Focusing on this problem, the study explores how AI-assisted tools—such as real-time transcription, automatic subtitles, summarization, and adaptive feedback—can transform YouTube-based listening from passive consumption into active, autonomous learning. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with four purposively selected students from We Learn English Students Course in Palopo, an English language training center. Data collection and analysis followed a three-phase procedure: transcription, member checking, and coding to uncover learners’ strategies, motivations, and perceived skill development. The findings reveal that AI-supported YouTube activities significantly improved learners’ comprehension, pronunciation, and self-regulated learning behaviors. Students demonstrated increased metacognitive awareness, utilizing AI tools to plan, monitor, and evaluate their listening performance. Furthermore, intrinsic motivation and learner autonomy were strengthened, as participants selected content aligned with their interests and received personalized feedback. The study concludes that AI-mediated YouTube engagement fosters a shift “from scroll to skill,” transforming entertainment-oriented digital habits into meaningful language learning experiences. The results underscore the pedagogical potential of integrating AI-driven scaffolding into extensive listening instruction to promote motivation, competence, and learner independence in EFL settings.

Abstract

The evaluation of mathematics learning in elementary schools still mostly uses tests in the form of questions with definite answers. This does not accommodate the various ways of thinking of students, especially in understanding number calculation material. This study aims to create a test instrument with an open ended approach to third grade elementary school that is valid, practical, and effective. The research subjects involved third grade students from SDN Kesamben 07, SDN Kesamben 06, and SDN Kesamben 04. This study used the ADDIE model, which consists of several stages, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. During the analysis stage, it was found that there was a need for an evaluation instrument that could measure the process and variety of ways students solve problems. The design stage produced a question grid with an Open Ended approach and critical thinking ability indicators. In the development stage, the test instrument obtained a very high validity level, namely 97.90% from subject matter experts and 99% from instrument experts. In the implementation stage, a practicality test involving teachers and students showed a practicality level of 89.29% from teachers and 83% from students in the very practical category. The effectiveness of the instrument was evident from the increase in the average student score from 53.90 on the initial test to 90.04 on the final test, with a significance level of 0.000 and an N-Gain value of 0.7823, which is classified as a high improvement. Thus, the open ended based test instrument is feasible and effective for use as an alternative for evaluating mathematics learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

The lack of integration of local wisdom in science learning and the use of learning resources that are still centered on textbooks have an impact on students' low understanding of local wisdom in their surroundings. This study aims to develop a P5RA e-module based on Blitar eco-culture in science lessons at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. The research method used is R&D through the ADDIE model which covers the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation phases. The research trial subjects included 28 fourth-grade students of MI Perwanida. Data collection techniques were carried out using interviews, questionnaires, observations, and learning outcome tests. The research findings indicate the validation of the e-module for the very valid category with a percentage of assessments from material experts of 90.51%, media experts of 95.45%, and instrument experts of 91.65%. The practicality of the e-module is categorized as very practical from the responses of teachers of 88.7% and students of 91.3%. The effectiveness of the e-module is shown by the difference between the pretest and posttest with a significance of 0.000 and an N-Gain of 78.97% in the effective category. Thus, the e-module can be used as a teaching material in supporting science learning in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah.

Abstract

This research was prompted by the low student participation in IPAS (Science, Social Studies, and Arts) learning among fourth-grade students at SD IT Hamalatul Ilmi. The study aimed to increase student learning participation by implementing the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in the fourth-grade classroom at SD IT Hamalatul Ilmi Bangkinang.This was a classroom action research project. The subjects of this study were 12 fourth-grade students from SD IT Hamalatul Ilmi. The research cycle followed the stages of planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. Data collection techniques included documentation and observation. Data analysis techniques used both qualitative and quantitative methods.The results of this study indicate that the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model can enhance student learning participation. This is evidenced by the improvement in student participation scores. In Cycle I, Meeting I, student participation reached 62,91%, with 5 out of 12 students achieving mastery. This increased to 73,33% in Cycle I, Meeting II, with 6 out of 12 students achieving mastery. Further improvement was observed in Cycle II, Meeting I, reaching 78,75%, with 8 out of 12 students achieving mastery. Finally, in Cycle II, Meeting II, participation increased again to 84,68%, with 10 out of 12 students achieving mastery.Therefore, it can be concluded that implementing the Project-Based Learning model can increase student learning participation at SD IT Hamalatul Ilmi.

Abstract

Islamic educational philosophy plays an important role in responding to contemporary educational challenges while maintaining spiritual and moral foundations. One of the significant approaches within this field is the Addini Al-Aqlani (religious-rational) school of thought, which emphasizes the harmonious integration of revelation (ad-dīn) and reason (‘aql). This article aims to examine the concept, historical background, major figures, and educational implications of the Addini Al-Aqlani school within Islamic educational philosophy. The study employs a library research method by analyzing classical and contemporary literature relevant to religious-rational perspectives in Islamic education. The findings indicate that the Addini Al-Aqlani school emerged as a response to two extreme tendencies in Islamic educational thought: rigid textualism that marginalizes reason and excessive rationalism that neglects revelation. Prominent figures such as Ikhwan al-Shafa, al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, and Ibn Miskawaih argue that reason and revelation are complementary sources of knowledge in achieving human perfection (insān kāmil). This school has significant implications for Islamic education, particularly in formulating educational objectives that balance intellectual, moral, and spiritual development, designing integrative curricula that combine revealed and rational sciences, and applying dialogical, reflective, and rational-spiritual teaching methods. Therefore, the Addini Al-Aqlani approach remains relevant as an integrative paradigm for developing Islamic education that is holistic, contextual, and value-oriented in the modern era.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the extent to which ice breaking activities are effective in improving learning motivation among elementary school students by reviewing findings from previous research. The method employed is a literature review, involving the selection and analysis of relevant research articles, academic reports, and publications from the past several years. The review indicates that ice breaking contributes to a more supportive classroom climate, enhances student engagement, and reduces fatigue during learning activities. Moreover, several studies highlight that structured implementation of ice breaking strengthens intrinsic motivation and improves students’ emotional readiness to absorb instructional content. These findings suggest that ice breaking can serve as a complementary strategy to support learning in elementary education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of social media and service quality on new students' decisions in choosing Muhammadiyah University of Palopo. By adopting a quantitative approach, this study involved 100 new student respondents who were taken through a simple random sampling technique. Data was collected using a questionnaire with a Likert scale consisting of 28 questions. The results of the analysis show that social media has a significant influence on new student decisions with a calculated T value of 6.999, which is greater than the T table of 1.984, as well as a significance value of 0.001 which is smaller than the 0.05 significance limit. This indicates that information obtained from social media, such as promotions and testimonials, is able to influence prospective students' perceptions of universities. Furthermore, service quality also shows a significant influence on new student decisions, with a calculated T value of 6.616 and a significance value of 0.001, which indicates that good academic and administrative services contribute to the level of satisfaction of prospective students in choosing a university. In addition, multiple linear regression analysis shows that social media and service quality simultaneously have a significant influence on new student decisions, indicated by a calculated F value of 344.948, which is greater than the F table of 3.939, and a significance value of 0.001. These findings confirm the importance of using social media and improving service quality as effective strategies in attracting prospective students. Thus, this study provides valuable insights for Universitas Muhammadiyah Palopo to formulate more appropriate and attractive marketing policies for prospective new students in the future.

Abstract

Mathematics is often perceived as an abstract discipline detached from life values. However, in the perspective of Islamic education, knowledge should be integrated with spiritual and moral values. One form of such integration can be achieved through the development of mathematics teaching materials based on Islamic values. Nevertheless, the process of developing such materials faces various challenges, both conceptually, pedagogically, and technically. This study aims to identify and analyze the difficulties encountered in developing arithmetic teaching materials integrated with Islamic values for prospective teachers, as well as to examine the solutions proposed in previous research. The method employed is a systematic literature review, involving the collection, selection, analysis, and synthesis of relevant national and international studies. The results indicate that the difficulties in developing arithmetic teaching materials based on Islamic values can be categorized into three main aspects: conceptual, pedagogical, and technical-implementative difficulties. Conceptual difficulties arise from linking arithmetic concepts with Islamic values; pedagogical difficulties relate to the limited ability of prospective teachers to design contextual, value based learning; while technical and implementative difficulties concern limited resources, media, and assessment instruments. Several studies propose solutions such as integrative training for prospective teachers, the development of conceptual guidelines for integrating Islamic values into mathematical content, and the application of project-based and contextual learning approaches. Thus, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the challenges and future directions in developing Islamic value-based arithmetic teaching materials for prospective teachers.

Abstract

The implementation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at the elementary school level tends to remain oriented toward conventional methods such as lecturing and memorization. This pattern limits students’ opportunities to engage actively, take initiative, and develop creativity and independence in the learning process. In fact, the core purpose of PAI is not merely the transmission of religious knowledge but also the cultivation of character values such as responsibility, independence, and creativity. This study seeks to examine the application of a project-based learning model in PAI as an alternative strategy to foster creativity and independence among elementary school students. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving fifth-grade students, PAI teachers, and school principals as primary and supporting informants. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the implementation of the project-based learning model had a positive impact on enhancing students’ creativity and independence. Their creativity was evident when they engaged in activities such as creating dakwah posters and independently designing worship schedules, where they were given the freedom to plan and express their ideas. Independence was reflected in students’ ability to manage their time, complete tasks responsibly, and reduce reliance on teachers. Moreover, this approach contributed to increasing learning motivation, building self-confidence, and providing more meaningful learning experiences. The project-based PAI learning model can thus be regarded as an educational innovation at the elementary level, as it not only supports academic achievement but also reinforces character development in alignment with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

Communication is a basic need that becomes an essential process in the exchange of thoughts, information, meanings, and feelings that allows for understanding and cooperation. In the context of education, communication between teachers and parents is an important aspect in improving the quality of education. Effective communication can facilitate the relationship between teachers and parents, as well as create a good learning environment. The purpose of this study is to explore the communication patterns of teachers with parents in elementary schools. This study uses a qualitative method of literature study. The source in this study is national articles in the last 10 years. The results of the study showed that communication can be done through direct personal/group communication, community programs, daily control books, WhatsApp groups, Coffee Morning programs, Guest Teacher programs, student portfolio media, Morning Tea programs, What We Will Learn programs and My Conference programs.These communications are able to improve the quality of student education. The findings of this literature review have implications for the importance of strengthening teacher-parent communication as part of efforts to improve the quality of education in elementary schools. Schools need to develop structured and sustainable communication, while parents as educational partners are expected to be more actively involved in communication.
