Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited number of linguistic studies that specifically examine the textual dimension of Critical Discourse Analysis in anime as a form of popular media. Vinland Saga presents dialogues that function not only as a means of communication, but also as a medium for constructing meaning, values, and the worldview of its characters. The research problem focuses on how the textual dimension of Norman Fairclough’s model is represented in the utterances of the character Thorfinn Thorsson. The aim of this study is to describe and analyze the linguistic features of the textual dimension, including lexical choice, grammatical structure, semantic relations, cohesion, and coherence in Thorfinn Thorsson’s utterances. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach within the framework of Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis. The data consist of Thorfinn Thorsson’s utterances taken from selected episodes of Vinland Saga, collected through documentation techniques and analyzed systematically based on the categories of the textual dimension. The findings reveal that Thorfinn Thorsson’s utterances display consistent and distinctive linguistic patterns. Lexical choices tend to be direct and oriented toward physical action, grammatical structures frequently represent affirmation and self-denial, semantic relations are predominantly characterized by cause-and-effect patterns linking personal experience to acts of revenge, and cohesion and coherence are strongly constructed through causal conjunctions and referential devices that maintain textual unity. These findings demonstrate that the textual dimension plays a crucial role in representing the construction of meaning and the development of Thorfinn’s character in Vinland Saga.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze elementary school students' perceptions of the concept of learning after watching the film "Jumbo" and to identify the learning values understood by students through the viewing experience. The approach used is descriptive qualitative with a phenomenological method. The subjects of this study are three fourth-grade students from MI Ma’arif Nu Banteran Sumbang, selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using the steps outlined by Miles and Huberman, which include data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the film "Jumbo" has a varied impact on students' learning perceptions. The majority experienced a shift in their learning perception towards a more enjoyable experience, while other informants showed stable perceptions without significant changes. Additionally, students were able to understand the values of perseverance, courage, and teamwork from the film's scenes and relate them to their own learning experiences. Overall, the research emphasizes that the film "Jumbo" can have a constructive impact on students' learning perceptions through character identification and the interpretation of character values. These findings imply that teachers should optimize the use of films as a medium for character education and motivation in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) learning on the motor development and character building of elementary school students. The research method used is a literature review with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data sources were obtained from accredited national journals published between 2022 and 2025 that are relevant to the research topic. The results indicate that PJOK learning has a positive effect on improving students’ motor development, particularly gross motor skills, through structured and varied physical activities. In addition, PJOK learning also contributes to the development of students’ character, including discipline, cooperation, responsibility, and sportsmanship. Well-implemented PJOK learning supports holistic student development, both physically and morally. Therefore, PJOK should be continuously developed as an essential component of elementary school education.

Abstract

Literacy is an important foundation for successful learning in basic education. Schools have a strategic role in fostering a culture of literacy through the creation of a conducive literacy ecosystem, one of which is through the School Literacy Movement Program (GLS). This study aims to describe the implementation of GLS at MI Al-Mahmud Kumpulrejo 01 in fostering a literacy ecosystem, identifying the obstacles encountered, and examining the school's efforts to overcome them. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data were collected through observation, interviews with the principal, teachers, and students, as well as documentation studies. Data analysis was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that GLS has been implemented through reading habits before learning, the provision of reading corners in classrooms, and the use of non-curricular reading books. However, the implementation of the program has not been fully consistent and integrated into learning. The school literacy ecosystem has begun to take shape, but it still needs to be strengthened, especially in terms of teacher involvement, the availability of varied reading materials, and literacy program management. The school has made various development efforts, such as encouraging the role of teachers, adding literacy facilities, and planning program evaluations. This study confirms that GLS has the potential to foster a sustainable literacy ecosystem if it is managed systematically and collaboratively.

Abstract

This research was conducted to improve students’ learning outcomes. Based on the existing scores, students’ learning outcomes have not yet met the expected Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM). Therefore, field research was carried out to determine the difference between previous learning outcomes and the current implementation. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of Augmented Reality learning media on learning outcomes in the Akidah Akhlak subject for fourth-grade students at MI Tarbiyatul Banin Pati, Central Java. The method used in this research is quantitative experimental research with a Quasi-Experimental Design in the form of a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of two classes: the experimental class, which received learning using Augmented Reality media, and the control class, which used PowerPoint-based learning methods. The instrument used was a learning achievement test in the form of pre-test and post-test, which had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was carried out using prerequisite tests, including normality and homogeneity tests, followed by the t-test (Independent Sample t-test) to examine the difference in average learning outcomes between the experimental and control classes. The t-test significance value showed 0.006, indicating that the use of Augmented Reality learning media has a significant and positive effect on improving Akidah Akhlak learning outcomes for fourth-grade students at MI Tarbiyatul Banin Pati.

Abstract

This article analyzes the thought of Buya Hamka (1908–1981) in the context of contemporary Islamic education in Indonesia, highlighting its relevance to the educational system implemented in Al-Azhar Indonesia schools. The study employs a conceptual–philosophical approach using a critical hermeneutic–interpretative method to examine Buya Hamka’s major works through textual, intertextual, and contextual analysis. The findings demonstrate the importance of integrating faith, knowledge, and morality as the foundation of an integral educational model oriented toward the formation of the whole person (insan kamil) within the educational system of Al-Azhar Indonesia schools. This paradigm is grounded in a humanistic–transcendental concept, emphasizing a balance between the development of human potential and God-consciousness. The implementation of these values is evident in Al-Azhar Indonesia schools through a centralized curriculum package developed by the Al-Azhar Indonesia Foundation, the cultivation of religious practices, and character formation based on the exemplary conduct of teachers or ustadz. This article contributes to the strengthening of a philosophy of Islamic education that is contextually responsive to the realities of the Muslim community and Indonesian society, adaptive to the challenges of education in the global era, and centered on spirituality as the core of students’ character formation.

Abstract

Values and moral education are essential for shaping a generation with character amidst the challenges of globalization and digitalization that threaten the moral integrity of Indonesia's youth. A 2024 report from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) noted that 65% of adolescents experience value conflict due to exposure to social media, while Transparency International (2024) ranked Indonesia 110/180 on the Corruption Perception Index. This article examines the internalization of moral values through a holistic approach based on Pancasila, analyzes the strategic roles of families, schools, and communities, and develops effective implementation strategies toward the vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045.Using qualitative methods based on literature reviews and descriptive analysis, secondary data from education journals (2020-2025), UNESCO reports, and international case studies (Finland) were analyzed through thematic content analysis. Key findings indicate that education based on Pancasila and local wisdom can increase the integrity and social resilience of the younger generation by up to 30%, as evidenced by the Independent Curriculum. Key challenges, such as the influence of gadgets, are addressed through multi-stakeholder collaboration, digital ethical literacy, and project-based learning. The conclusion emphasizes the collective commitment of all parties to realizing the Pancasila Student Profile, which is devout, cooperative, and critical. Recommendations include national teacher training and empirical character indicators. This research contributes to the transformation of character education in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of instructional videos accessed through smartphones to improve students’ grammar mastery in English subjects at SMAS Muhammadiyah Lempangan. The research is motivated by students’ difficulties in understanding grammar concepts when taught through conventional methods, prompting the need for more engaging and flexible media. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and documentation of learning activities. The findings show that instructional videos provide clearer explanations of grammar rules through visual demonstrations, examples, and step-by-step presentations. Students reported that videos helped them better understand tenses, subject-verb agreement, and sentence patterns because they could replay the content as needed. The use of smartphones also increased learning motivation and enabled independent study both in class and at home. Furthermore, videos encouraged class participation, collaborative discussion, and improved digital literacy. Although several obstacles were found—such as internet limitations, distractions from other applications, and students’ device constraints—the overall impact of video-based learning was positive. The study concludes that instructional videos delivered via smartphones are effective, practical, and relevant to supporting grammar mastery in senior high school settings

Abstract

This study was conducted to explore students’ perceptions of using TikTok as a medium for learning English. As the use of social media in education continues to grow, TikTok has become one of the platforms frequently utilized by students to access learning materials that are engaging, interactive, and easy to understand. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five English Language Education students at Muhammadiyah University of Palopo who actively use TikTok for learning. The findings reveal that students respond positively to TikTok as a learning tool. They perceive features such as Duet, Stitch, subtitles, and trend-based videos as helpful in improving vocabulary, pronunciation, listening skills, and speaking confidence. TikTok is also considered capable of boosting learning motivation due to its appealing content, easy accessibility, and alignment with the learning preferences of young users. Nevertheless, students still encounter several challenges, including inaccurate information, distractions from non-educational content, limited interaction, and short video duration that often lacks in-depth explanations. Despite these limitations, TikTok is viewed as an effective supplementary medium when used selectively and combined with formal instruction. Overall, the study concludes that TikTok holds strong potential as a creative and flexible additional learning tool that can enhance students’ English language proficiency.

Abstract

Digitalization presents new challenges in strengthening literacy among elementary school students, particularly in their ability to comprehend, evaluate, and interpret information. This study aims to examine the implementation of various strategies to enhance elementary school students’ literacy in the digital era through a literature review approach. The research method employed a thematic and descriptive-analytical review of relevant journal articles, proceedings, and scholarly sources. The findings indicate that literacy improvement is shaped by the interaction of instructional strategies, school support, family involvement, and patterns of digital technology use. Effective literacy strategies operate through a combination of habit formation, modeling, interaction, and motivational reinforcement, including reading habituation, read-aloud activities, retelling stories, literacy games, and adequate access to reading materials. The novelty of this study lies in its integrative synthesis of literacy strategies into a systemic conceptual framework that positions literacy as a multidimensional and sustainable educational practice. These findings provide both conceptual and practical references for teachers and schools in designing adaptive literacy strategies in the digital era.
