Abstract

The decline in students’ discipline and responsibility has become a major challenge in the implementation of character education in Indonesia. Issues such as tardiness, violations of school regulations, lack of commitment to academic tasks, and low social responsibility highlight the need for effective and sustainable educational strategies. Scouting activities, as a compulsory extracurricular program in schools, are considered to have significant potential in character building through experiential learning approaches and the patrol system. This study aims to analyze and synthesize empirical findings related to the implementation of discipline and responsibility character education through scouting activities. The research employed a Literature Review (LR) method by examining ten national scientific articles published between 2023 and 2026, retrieved from Google Scholar and indexed national journal portals. The selection process involved identification, screening, and content analysis based on research relevance. The findings indicate that scouting activities effectively instill discipline through structured routines, rule enforcement, reward and consequence systems, and marching exercises. Responsibility is developed through role distribution within patrol groups, collaborative task completion, and camping activities that foster independence and teamwork. The success of implementation is influenced by the consistency of scout leaders, institutional policy support, and the integration of the Scout Promise (Tri Satya) and Scout Law (Dasa Dharma) values in all activities. Therefore, scouting activities are proven to be an effective and sustainable strategy for strengthening students’ discipline and responsibility character development.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) describe lecturers’ strategies in directing the positive use of mobile phones during lectures, (2) identify forms of mobile phone utilization that support the learning process, (3) examine the obstacles in using mobile phones during lectures, and (4) describe solutions to overcome these obstacles. This research employed a qualitative approach conducted at the Department of Islamic Education, UIN Alauddin Makassar. The data sources consisted of lecturers and students of the 2023 cohort. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation using observation and interview guidelines as research instruments. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. Data validity was ensured through triangulation. The results show that: (1) lecturers’ strategies in directing the positive use of mobile phones are implemented by providing clear usage limitations during lectures, making their use more directed and educational rather than totally prohibited; (2) forms of mobile phone utilization include searching for additional references, conducting online attendance through Lentera, opening presentation or paper files, and participating in online quizzes; (3) the main obstacles include limited Wi-Fi and internet access, insufficient phone storage capacity, and limited battery life; and (4) solutions include sharing hotspots, borrowing devices, downloading materials in advance, using cloud storage, and saving battery usage. The findings imply that lecturers in the Department of Islamic Education at UIN Alauddin Makassar are expected to continuously develop effective strategies in directing the positive use of mobile phones so that technology can function as a learning support tool rather than a distraction.

Abstract

This study aims to determine: 1) What is the picture of plastic waste in Tanjung Bayang, Makassar City. 2) How does the plastic waste crisis impact the coastal ecosystem in Tanjung Bayang, Makassar city. 3) How a circular economy approach can address the plastic waste crisis. The research used was a qualitative case study approach. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that: 1) The Tanjung Bayang Coast still faces the problem of scattered garbage due to human activity and is also exacerbated by the rainy season. In addition, local communities have implemented a waste management system through waste banks and waste recycling efforts, or landfilling waste. 2) The impact of the waste crisis on coastal ecosystems and the presence of waste that impacts marine habitats, if the waste is cleaned up immediately, the possibility of disruption to marine habitats can be minimized. And it also has an impact on the economy of coastal communities due to the lack of visitors due to unclean beaches. And 3) A circular economy can overcome plastic waste through waste management with two methods, namely waste banks and recycling, where previously the waste management method with this method had been running with the help of the Community, Students, and LPM (Community Empowerment Institution).

Abstract

This research is based on the low critical thinking ability of elementary school students, which is characterized by the lack of activity and courage of students in expressing their opinions during the learning process. This research aims to analyze the application and influence of the Argument Driven Inquiry (ADI) learning model with the help of Wordwall media on the critical thinking ability of grade V elementary school students. The ADI model was chosen because it provides space for students to analyze evidence and build arguments systematically. The research method used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design of posttest-only control group design. The research subject consists of 40 students in class V of SDN Dukuh Menanggal 1 Surabaya. The data collection technique is carried out through observation and test, which is then analyzed using t-test (independent sample t-test) through the SPSS application version 21. The results of the data analysis show a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000. Because p-value < 0.05, then ho is rejected and ha is accepted. The results prove that there is a significant influence from the implementation of the Wordwall-assisted Argument Driven Inquiry (ADI) learning model on the critical thinking skills of elementary school students. Wordwall media is effective in supporting the inquiry stage and increasing student interactive involvement in learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of dance learning policy at SMA IT Al-Kholis. Dance education in Islamic schools requires adjustments to ensure alignment with the religious principles upheld by the institution. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The research subjects included the principal, the vice principal for curriculum affairs, and the arts and culture teacher. Data collection techniques consisted of semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with data validity ensured through source and method triangulation. The results indicate that the implementation of the dance learning policy at SMA IT Al-Kholis has been carried out in accordance with the characteristics of an integrated Islamic school. Based on the policy implementation theory of Donald Van Meter and Carl Van Horn, the success of implementation is influenced by six main variables: (1) clearly defined policy standards and objectives articulated in the school’s vision and mission; (2) the availability of resources, including teachers with basic instructional competencies and supporting facilities; (3) the characteristics of implementing agents who possess religious competence aligned with the Islamic school context; (4) effective communication among school stakeholders and the foundation; (5) positive attitudes of implementers who support dance learning as an educational medium; and (6) a religious social and cultural environment that remains supportive of dance education. Thus, dance learning in the school is positioned as a means of character building and fostering students’ creativity.
