Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of improving the critical thinking skills of fourth-grade elementary school students through the use of Color-Coded Shape Cards for the topic of geometric shapes. This research employs a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach conducted over three cycles, with each cycle comprising the stages of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through media validation sheets and observation of teacher activity, student activity, and students' critical thinking skills. Data indicate that the media is highly suitable, with a rating of 93%, and students' critical thinking skills improved from 71% in Cycle I to 94% in Cycle III. Unlike previous studies that generally relied on card-based, geometric, or general visual media, this study offers a novelty by integrating a color-coding system as a cognitive cue that helps students identify relationships between plane figures. The findings indicate that Color-Coded Shape Cards media effectively supports mathematics learning that fosters students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum emphasizes the development of critical thinking skills; therefore, the quality of assessment questions needs to be examined to ensure their alignment with the intended learning outcomes. Although numerous studies have analyzed assessment questions using the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy or Robert H. Ennis's critical thinking indicators, studies integrating both frameworks in the analysis of short story assessment questions remain limited. This study aimed to describe the alignment of short story assessment questions in the Grade VIII Bahasa Indonesia textbook published by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in 2024 with the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy and Robert H. Ennis's critical thinking indicators. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using content analysis of 22 assessment questions. The findings revealed that all cognitive levels of the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy were represented; however, the questions were dominated by the Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS) category (59.09%), while Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) accounted for 36.36%. Based on Robert H. Ennis's critical thinking indicators, Elementary Clarification was the most dominant indicator (40.91%), whereas Advanced Clarification appeared least frequently (4.55%). These findings indicate that the assessment questions remain more focused on measuring basic thinking skills than on fostering comprehensive critical thinking. Therefore, the development of assessment questions should ensure a more balanced distribution of cognitive levels and critical thinking indicators to better reflect the objectives of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of physical activity in supporting the physical fitness of students, specifically those participating in the futsal extracurricular program. The study aims to determine the relationship between physical activity and the physical fitness levels of futsal extracurricular students at MAN 2 Bukittinggi. It employs a correlational research design with a total sample of 25 students selected using the total sampling technique. Physical activity was measured using the PAQ-A, while physical fitness was assessed using the Indonesian Student Fitness Test (TKSI). Data analysis involved normality tests, linearity tests, and the Pearson Product Moment correlation test at a significance level of α = 0.05. The results indicate that the data for both physical activity and physical fitness were normally distributed (sig. 0.059 and 0.095) and exhibited a linear relationship (Deviation from Linearity = 0.218). The correlation test yielded an r-value of 0.780 (p < 0.001), demonstrating a positive, strong, and significant relationship between physical activity and the physical fitness of the futsal extracurricular students at MAN 2 Bukittinggi. Physical activity contributed 60.8% to physical fitness, while the remaining 39.2% was influenced by other factors not examined in this study.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low learning outcomes and activeness of students in the Pancasila Education subject in grade XI TKJ 2 SMKN 2 Malang, which was found to be 15 out of 34 (44%) who achieved the Learning Goal Achievement Criteria (KKTP) and the average class score was only 68. This research aims to improve student learning outcomes through the application of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) type Cooperative Learning model assisted by flip bottle media and question cards. This study uses the Kemmis and McTaggart model Class Action Research design in two cycles. In its implementation, students were divided into heterogeneous groups to discuss understanding the material, then participated in a tournament using flip bottles as a turn randomizer and question cards as a means of answering questions to obtain group points. Data was collected through learning outcome tests, observation of student activities, and documentation, then analyzed in a quantitative descriptive manner. The novelty of this research lies in the combination of flip bottle media as the fastest turn-based randomizer to open the content-based question cards of Pancasila Education at the vocational school level which has not been widely studied in previous TGT research. The results showed that the average score of students increased from 68 in the pre-cycle to 76 in the first cycle and 83 in the second cycle. The percentage of learning completeness also increased from 44% to 71% and 94%, thus exceeding the set success indicator of 80%. Thus, the application of the TGT model assisted by flip bottle media and question cards has proven effective in improving the learning outcomes of Pancasila Education for students in grade XI TKJ 2 SMKN 2 Malang. Abstract

Bullying is one of the social problems that frequently occurs in schools and can have negative impacts on students’ psychological, social, and academic development. Therefore, effective prevention efforts are needed through educational approaches that instill the values of empathy, tolerance, and mutual respect. This article aims to examine the role of social literacy activities as a medium for anti-bullying education for students. The method used in writing this article is a literature study by analyzing various relevant sources related to bullying, social literacy, and character education in schools. The results of the study indicate that social literacy activities, such as reading stories themed around empathy, group discussions, reflection on social values, and writing about social experiences, can increase students’ awareness of the impacts of bullying and encourage the development of respectful behavior toward others. Through social literacy activities, students not only gain knowledge but also develop critical thinking skills, empathy, and social skills. Therefore, the integration of anti-bullying education through social literacy activities can be an effective strategy in creating a safe, inclusive school environment that supports the character development of students.

Abstract

Education is a strategic instrument for improving the quality of human resources and an inseparable part of public policy. In practice, educational implementation is influenced by political dynamics that determine the direction, objectives, and educational policies adopted by the government. Therefore, understanding educational politics and educational policy concepts is essential for analyzing the development of Indonesia’s educational system. This study aims to describe the concept of educational politics, the scope of educational politics, educational policy, and the policy-making process within the national education system. This research employed a qualitative approach using the library research method. Data were collected from books, scientific journals, government regulations, and other relevant literature. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that educational politics refers to the government’s process of determining educational direction through policies based on national ideology, community needs, and national development goals. The scope of educational politics includes policy formulation, educational management, educational financing, equal access to education, quality improvement, and policy evaluation. Educational policy is also an integral part of public policy that undergoes stages of problem identification, policy formulation, implementation, evaluation, and policy termination. Therefore, the success of the national education system is highly dependent on educational policies that are participatory, adaptive, and oriented toward improving educational quality.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the persistence of the patriarchal system that shapes gender inequality, particularly within the Papuan cultural context represented in the novel Isinga. The objective of this study is to analyze the process of gender reconstruction and the manifestation of cultural radical feminism in overcoming gender injustice through the character Irewa. The research method employed is qualitative descriptive with a feminist literary approach. Data were collected through documentation with interpretive reading and note-taking techniques, and analyzed using an interactive model involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that gender reconstruction occurs through three systematic transformation stages: the construction stage (oppression), the transition stage (turning point involving the emergence of critical awareness in the character Irewa), and the realization stage (economic independence and courage in public speaking). Cultural radical feminism is manifested through reclaiming control over the body, rejecting violence, and transforming cultural narratives via the "Ruang Marya" symbol. The study concludes that the novel Isinga serves as an instrument for creating gender justice through profound cultural transformation.

Abstract

Literacy skills are fundamental competencies that students need to face the demands of 21st-century learning. In the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, literacy development is integrated into all subjects, including Indonesian language through text-based writing instruction. This study aims to examine the forms of writing instruction and their implications for the development of students’ literacy skills. This research used a qualitative approach with literature review and content analysis methods. The data were obtained from the Grade VII Indonesian language textbook of the Merdeka Curriculum published by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The results show that writing instruction is developed through a text-based approach, including descriptive texts, fantasy stories, procedural texts, observation reports, response texts, as well as letters and messages. Each writing activity is designed in stages, namely observing, analyzing, designing, writing, and revising texts, which supports the development of students’ literacy competencies. The findings indicate that writing instruction in the textbook not only improves writing skills but also contributes to the development of reading literacy, information literacy, critical literacy, and digital literacy. Theoretically, this study strengthens the concept of text-based instruction as a means of literacy development. Practically, the findings can serve as a reference for teachers in optimizing the use of textbooks to support literacy instruction in junior high schools (SMP/MTs).
