Abstract

This study aims to describe the parenting strategies employed by young mothers to control the intensity of gadget use among children aged 5–6 years and to identify the factors that support and hinder the implementation of these strategies. Research Methodology: This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. The study participants consisted of two young mothers with children aged 5–6 years who live in Pasawahan, Purwakarta. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, structured interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that there are four main strategies applied by young mothers to control the intensity of gadget use among children aged 5–6 years: establishing rules for gadget use, selecting and filtering digital content, providing alternative activities to divert attention from gadget use, and maintaining open communication with their children. The success of these strategies is supported by the children’s characteristics, family support, and the school environment. Conversely, parents’ busy schedules, inconsistent family rules, peer influence, and limited digital literacy pose barriers to controlling children’s gadget use. The conclusion of this study is that successfully managing children’s gadget use is not solely the responsibility of one parent, but rather depends on a comprehensive parenting ecosystem that includes the active involvement of the other parent, support from the school, and conducive community norms.

Abstract

This study aimed to explain the implementation of the Mind Mapping technique in improving students' speaking ability. The research employed a collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR) design following the Kemmis and McTaggart (2014) model, conducted in two cycles with 36 students of class XI F. Data were collected through speaking tests, field notes, and interviews, and assessed using Heaton's (1988) rubric across four components: fluency, accuracy, pronunciation, and comprehensibility. The success criterion required at least 70% of students to achieve a minimum score of 70. The findings revealed significant improvement in students' speaking ability after the implementation of the Mind Mapping technique. In Cycle 1, the mean score was 63.6 with only 30.6% of students achieving the KKM. After implementing revisions in Cycle 2, such as the use of dictionaries, more varied topics, and additional individual practice time, the mean score increased to 75.1 with 86.1% of students achieving the KKM. All four speaking components showed improvement, with comprehensibility showing the most significant increase. This study concludes that the Mind Mapping technique is effective in improving students' speaking ability by helping them organize ideas visually, reducing cognitive load and anxiety, and providing a structured thinking framework.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of using the Busuu application on English vocabulary mastery of seventh-grade students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Nur Rahma in Bengkulu City. The research was motivated by the dominance of conventional teaching methods that led to low student motivation and passive participation in vocabulary learning. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was employed, involving seventh-grade Makkah as the experimental class and seventh-grade Madinah as the control class. The sample consisted of 29 students selected using total sampling technique. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test, then analyzed using Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene's homogeneity test, and Independent Samples t-test. The results showed that the post-test scores of the experimental class were significantly higher than those of the control class. The Independent Samples t-test yielded a t-value of 4.281 with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the two groups after the treatment. These findings demonstrate that the use of the Busuu application is effective in improving students' English vocabulary mastery. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the Busuu application has a significant effect on the English vocabulary mastery of seventh-grade students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Nur Rahma in Bengkulu City. Therefore, the Busuu application can be used as Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL)-based instructional media to support English vocabulary learning.

Abstract

Scholarship selection in higher education requires a transparent procedure because candidates are evaluated through criteria with different levels of importance. This study develops a decision support model that integrates the Best–Worst Method (BWM) for criterion weighting and Multi-Objective Optimization on the Basis of Ratio Analysis (MOORA) for candidate ranking. The data comprise nine anonymized scholarship candidates evaluated using academic achievement, cumulative grade point average (GPA), and administrative completeness. In the BWM model, GPA was designated as the best criterion and administrative completeness as the worst criterion. The resulting weights were 0.2308 for academic achievement, 0.6923 for GPA, and 0.0769 for administrative completeness, with a fully consistent comparison structure. MOORA calculations were performed using the candidates’ original GPA values rather than converting them into ordinal categories. The results placed alternative A5 first with an optimization value of 0.3509, followed by A2 with 0.3464 and A6 with 0.3426. Because all candidates satisfied the administrative requirement, this criterion contributed the same value to every alternative and did not change the ranking. Sensitivity analysis showed that the top three alternatives remained stable under moderate changes in the relative weights of achievement and GPA, but the ranking changed when GPA became strongly dominant. The model provides a reproducible basis for scholarship decisions while highlighting the need to use administrative completeness as an eligibility filter and to expand substantive assessment criteria in future implementation.

Abstract

Mental health is an essential component of overall well-being and represents a major concern among university students. Mental health problems can adversely affect quality of life, particularly among students who experience high levels of academic stress. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between sleep quality and mental health among undergraduate midwifery students at Universitas 'Aisyiyah Yogyakarta. Method: This quantitative correlational study used a cross-sectional design. The study population comprised 268 second-, fourth-, and sixth-semester undergraduate midwifery students at Universitas 'Aisyiyah Yogyakarta. A total of 161 respondents were selected by proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Self-Reporting Questionnaire-20 (SRQ-20). Descriptive statistics were used for univariate analysis, and the Spearman rank correlation test examined the relationship between sleep quality and mental health. Results: Most respondents had poor sleep quality (84.5%), and 54.0% showed indications of mental health problems. Statistical analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between sleep quality and mental health (p < 0.001; r = 0.585), indicating a moderate correlation. Poorer sleep quality was associated with poorer mental health. Conclusion: Sleep quality was significantly associated with mental health among undergraduate midwifery students at Universitas 'Aisyiyah Yogyakarta. Poor sleep quality was associated with an increased likelihood of mental health problems. These findings support preventive strategies to improve sleep quality as part of efforts to promote students' mental well-being and may help universities strengthen guidance and counseling services to assist students in managing academic stress and maintaining good mental health.

Abstract

Islamic education constitutes an integral part of the national education system and plays a strategic role in developing human resources who possess faith, piety, noble character, and adequate academic competence. This study aims to analyze the regulations and policies governing Islamic education in Indonesia and their implications for the development of Islamic educational institutions. The research employs a library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected from various primary and secondary sources, including legislation, scholarly books, academic journals, and official documents related to Islamic education. The findings indicate that the Indonesian government has demonstrated significant commitment to the development of Islamic education through various regulations and policies governing madrasahs, Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), and Islamic higher education institutions. These policies are directed toward improving educational quality, expanding access to education, strengthening institutional governance, and adapting Islamic education to the advancement of science and technology. Nevertheless, policy implementation continues to face several challenges, including disparities in institutional quality, limitations in human resources, and the need to adapt to global developments. Therefore, synergy among the government, educational institutions, and society is required to realize a high-quality, competitive Islamic education system that remains grounded in Islamic values.
