Abstract

The background of this research is a response to the low critical thinking skills of fourth-grade students in the IPAS (Natural and Social Sciences) subject. This condition is triggered by the dominance of teacher-centered teaching approaches and the suboptimal utilization of varied learning models and learning media within the educational environment. Therefore, this study aims to test the effectiveness and to comprehensively examine the impact of implementing the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) learning model in accelerating students' critical thinking skills in the IPAS discipline. Methodologically, this investigation adopts a quantitative approach utilizing a Quasi-Experimental Design, specifically the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The main population consisted of all fourth-grade students in Gugus I Diponegoro, Surakarta. Through a cluster sampling procedure, SD Negeri Rejosari Surakarta was selected as the sampling location, wherein class IV B (26 students) was assigned as the experimental group and class IV A (25 students) functioned as the control group. The data collection process was conducted through tests, observations, documentation, and interviews. The evaluation measurement utilized was an essay test that had been proven valid and reliable. Furthermore, the data processing stage was executed using SPSS version 25 software, which included prerequisite testing (normality and homogeneity) and proceeded to hypothesis testing using the Independent Samples t-Test. Empirical evidence from this examination revealed a margin of 11.62 points, with the control group's average posttest score standing at 71.80, while the experimental group's score surged to 83.42. The Independent Samples t-Test calculation yielded a t-count of -12.589, accompanied by a probability value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 (< 0.05). This statistical figure validates the rejection of H₀ and the acceptance of Hₐ. Thus, it is confirmed that the application of the RADEC learning model brings a highly significant effect on improving the critical thinking skills of fourth-grade students in the IPAS subject. Practically, this learning framework has proven successful in stimulating students to become more analytical, cooperative, proactive, and innovative throughout the teaching and learning activities.

Abstract

21st-century education requires students to have digital literacy and to be able to adapt to the dynamic changes of the times. Digital literacy is closely related to the ability to process and interpret information from data, which is part of mathematical literacy, particularly in Statistics. However, the mathematical literacy achievement of Indonesian students remains relatively low, accompanied by low learning motivation due to boredom in learning activities that are still dominated by printed books. This research aims to (1) describe the development process of an Android-based educational game on high school Statistics using Adobe Animate, and (2) analyze the development results based on the perception, performance, and learning aspects. This study is a Research and Development (R&D) study employing the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) development model, conducted at Surabaya State Senior High School 18 with a trial subject of one 10th-grade class consisting of 29 students. Data were collected through interview guidelines, validation sheets, response questionnaires, motivation questionnaires, and pretest-posttest questions, then analyzed both qualitatively and descriptively-quantitatively. The results showed that the Polytix (Monopoly Statistix) educational game was rated highly valid based on the assessments of media experts (84.8%) and material experts (91.25%). In the perception aspect, student and teacher responses were positive, with percentages of 75.07% and 93.75%, respectively. Abstract

Students often experience difficulties in understanding Market Structure because the topic is abstract, complex, and requires the ability to distinguish the characteristics of different market types. Furthermore, the instructional media currently used have not been able to clearly visualize the relationships among concepts, highlighting the need for more visual and interactive learning media. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of Google Sites, Quizizz, and mind mapping into a single interactive learning medium specifically designed to enhance students' conceptual understanding of Market Structure. This study aimed to develop an interactive mind mapping–based learning medium for the Market Structure topic for tenth-grade senior high school students and to examine the improvement in students' conceptual understanding after using the developed medium. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, limited to the development stage. A limited field trial was conducted with 32 tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri Bareng. The feasibility of the learning medium was evaluated by media, subject matter, and language experts, while improvements in students' conceptual understanding were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and the Normalized Gain (N-Gain) test. The results indicated that the developed medium achieved feasibility scores of 83.33% from the media expert, 82.66% from the subject matter expert, and 81.25% from the language expert, all of which were categorized as highly feasible. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test revealed an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), while the average N-Gain score was 0.4464, indicating a moderate level of improvement. These findings demonstrate that the interactive mind mapping–based learning medium is highly feasible for instructional use and effectively improves students' conceptual understanding of Market Structure.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and describe the factors that influence the verbal language skills of children aged 5-6 years at TK Negeri Kelapa Lima, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. A qualitative case-study approach was employed, involving three children whose verbal language development had not yet reached its optimal level. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews with teachers and parents, as well as documentation. The data were then analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification, accompanied by source triangulation. The findings reveal that verbal language skills are influenced by a combination of internal and external factors. Internal factors include genetic history, linguistic intelligence, and gender, while external factors encompass parenting styles, the intensity of parent-child communication, birth order, and the surrounding environment. The three subjects exhibited different dominant causes: parent-child communication patterns for the first child, social environment and shyness for the second child, and the quality of the language models received at home for the third child. Overall, external factors, particularly parental communication styles and environmental stimulation, were found to be more decisive than internal factors in shaping children's verbal language development. These findings underscore the importance of consistent and responsive language stimulation from parents, teachers, and the surrounding environment to optimize early childhood verbal language skills.

Abstract

This study investigated the implementation of English-Speaking Zones and their perceived impact on students’ speaking fluency at Pondok Pesantren Modern IMMIM Putra Makassar. A qualitative descriptive design was employed involving four students and one English teacher selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through classroom observations and semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the implementation of the English-Speaking Zones consisted of three interconnected stages: planning, action, and evaluation. The planning stage involved establishing language regulations, designated English-speaking areas, and vocabulary enrichment activities. The action stage emphasized consistent English use through teacher supervision, peer monitoring, and supporting language activities, while the evaluation stage relied on monitoring and corrective feedback, although it had not yet been conducted systematically. Furthermore, the participants perceived that the English-Speaking Zones contributed to the improvement of several aspects of speaking fluency, including speaking speed, smoothness, vocabulary use, pronunciation, and confidence. However, several challenges remained, such as limited vocabulary, fear of making mistakes, hesitation, and inconsistent use of English in certain situations. It can be concluded that the English-Speaking Zones provide a supportive language environment that encourages students to practice English regularly and supports the development of their speaking fluency. These findings suggest that continuous supervision, meaningful communication opportunities, and systematic evaluation are essential to maximize the effectiveness of the program.
