Abstract

This study examines the development of Islamic education during the Umayyad and Abbasid Dynasties, which demonstrate distinct orientations, characteristics, and contributions to the advancement of Islamic knowledge. The main problem addressed in this study concerns how both dynasties developed educational systems that differed in structure yet remained interconnected in shaping the intellectual tradition of Islamic civilization. The purpose of this research is to describe the forms of educational institutions, learning methods, and the advancement of knowledge in each dynasty, as well as to analyze the factors that influenced these developments. This research employs a library research method by analyzing primary and secondary sources, including historical texts, academic books, and scientific articles related to Islamic educational history. Content analysis was used to categorize data into themes such as educational development, governmental policy, and scholarly contributions. The validity of the data was strengthened through source triangulation to ensure accuracy and consistency. The findings reveal that the Umayyad Dynasty laid the fundamental groundwork for Islamic education through traditional institutions such as kuttab, halaqah, and study circles that focused on teaching the Qur’an, Hadith, and Arabic language. Meanwhile, the Abbasid Dynasty elevated Islamic education to its golden age by establishing madrasahs, major libraries, observatories, and the House of Wisdom, which served as a center for translation and scientific development. This study concludes that the development of Islamic education during both dynasties represents an evolutionary and interconnected process that significantly contributed to the advancement of Islamic civilization.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The global environmental crisis, marked by climate change, ecosystem degradation, and excessive exploitation of natural resources, has become a serious challenge for human civilization. In the context of Islam, the Qur’an as the primary source of law contains a set of moral and spiritual values that can serve as the foundation for ecological ethics. This article aims to reconstruct Qur’anic values relevant to environmental ethics and offer them as an alternative paradigm in addressing the contemporary ecological crisis. The research method employed is a conceptual literature review, examining ayat kauniyah (verses of nature), classical and contemporary exegesis, as well as scientific literature related to Islamic ecological theology. The study reveals that Qur’anic principles such as tawhid (cosmic unity), khalifah fi al-ard (human responsibility as stewards of the earth), mizan (balance), and amanah (moral trust) form the basis of a holistic and sustainable ecological ethic. By revitalizing these values, the paradigm of Islamic ecological ethics can significantly contribute to fostering spiritual awareness of environmental preservation and provide new direction for the global discourse on environmental ethics.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of a Pancasila-based multicultural Arabic language learning model and its contribution to strengthening religious moderation among students in the Arabic Language Education Department at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Responding to increasing social diversity and digitalization in higher education, this research highlights the need for integrating linguistic competence with multicultural and national values. Using a qualitative field research design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with lecturers and students, classroom observations, and documentation of instructional materials and lesson plans. The findings show that Pancasila values particularly tolerance, cooperation, unity, and social justice are systematically integrated during the planning, instructional processes, and assessment phases. Students perceive the model as relevant and effective for enhancing intercultural understanding, although challenges remain in harmonizing diverse backgrounds, digital readiness, and group dynamics. The study also reveals that this learning model significantly contributes to strengthening students’ religious moderation, reflected in increased tolerance, openness to diversity, and inclusive religious attitudes. Arabic, as the language of Islamic sources, becomes a medium for developing moderate interpretations and preventing textual extremism. However, the study suggests the need for more standardized evaluation tools for measuring religious moderation outcomes. This research provides theoretical contributions by integrating multicultural pedagogy with Pancasila-based values in Arabic education and offers practical implications for curriculum development, lecturer training, and national policies related to religious moderation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of servant leadership and pedagogical competence on teacher performance with work motivation as a mediating variable. The research employed a quantitative approach with a survey method involving teachers at SMA YP IPPPI Petojo as respondents. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed through path analysis using SmartPLS version 4. The results indicate that servant leadership has a positive and significant effect on both work motivation and teacher performance. Pedagogical competence also positively influences work motivation and teacher performance. Furthermore, work motivation partially mediates the relationship between servant leadership and pedagogical competence on teacher performance. This finding implies that teacher performance improvement is not solely determined by leadership and pedagogical abilities but also by the level of work motivation among teachers. The study suggests that school principals should apply the principles of servant leadership that emphasize empowerment and teacher well-being while simultaneously strengthening pedagogical competence through continuous professional development. Such efforts can foster higher work motivation and lead to sustainable improvement in teacher performance.

Abstract

The city of Manado is an area of rich ethnicity and culture but has difficulties in maintaining good relations between local people and migrants. Local wisdom, such as the philosophy of “Torang Samua Basudara” has a great ability to enhance good intercultural communication but has not been much researched in depth as a way to communicate. This research aims to study the ways of intercultural communication between indigenous people and migrants, discover the contribution of local values in strengthening social unity, and design ways of communication based on local culture. The method used was descriptive qualitative through four steps: initial studies and group discussions, data collection through detailed interviews and observations, data analysis with specific themes, and report writing. Preliminary findings show that barriers in communication, such as prejudice and stereotypes can be overcome by internalizing local cultural values in daily interactions. In conclusion, local wisdom not only serves as a cultural binder but can also be used as an effective intercultural communication strategy to create an open and harmonious society.

Abstract

At the critical stage of completing the final project, academic and social pressures on students become an important context that influences the dynamics of symbolic interaction and students’ self-expression. Therefore, this study aims to understand whether symbolic interaction in interpersonal communication affects students’ self-expression during the completion of the final project. This study uses an associative quantitative approach with a survey method. Data collection was conducted through the distribution of questionnaires to 64 respondents from a total population of 179, selected based on Slovin's formula from the predetermined population. The research results show that symbolic interaction and self-expression of the 2021 class students at IAI AL-AZIS during the final project completion process occur through the use of communication symbols, both verbal and nonverbal. There is a positive and significant influence, meaning that the higher the quality of symbolic interaction, the higher the self-expression displayed by the students. This is demonstrated by the results of a simple linear regression analysis which produced a correlation coefficient (Multiple R) value of 0.8661, indicating a very strong relationship between symbolic interaction and student self-expression. The determination coefficient (R Square) value of 0.7502 indicates that the symbolic interaction variable has a 75.02% influence on student self-expression. The Adjusted R Square value of 0.7463 reinforces that this regression model is quite good and consistent. Therefore, it can be concluded that symbolic interaction has a significant and strong influence on the self-expression values of the 2021 class students at IAI AL-AZIS in completing their final project.

Abstract

This research focuses on efforts to strengthen students' scientific literacy through the integration of areca nut ethnoscience in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning in elementary schools. Areca nut culture (Areca Catechu) is a crucial part of the lives of the Papuan people and has great potential as a contextual and meaningful learning resource in science learning. Implementing an ethnoscience approach through the use of areca palm plants can bridge scientific concepts with local cultural practices so that students do not feel strange during the learning process. Students can visually understand the function of plant organs and know areca nut as a biotic component (living creature) which has an essential role in the ecosystem. The research method used is descriptive qualitative through observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the research show that the use of areca palm plants in the science and science learning process has succeeded in strengthening students' understanding of the concept of biodiversity, the structure and function of plant organs, and the reciprocal relationship between humans and the environment. Cultural integration in learning also strengthens students' identity and fosters a sense of pride in local Papuan wisdom. This research concludes that the integration of areca nut ethnoscience in science and science learning is effective as a strategy to strengthen local culture-based scientific literacy.

Abstract

Education is a fundamental right for every citizen of Indonesia as mandated by the 1945 Constitution. However, equitable access to education in Indonesia still faces various challenges. Social, economic, and geographical disparities have caused parts of the community to remain underserved and unable to obtain proper educational services. As an alternative solution, non-formal education is provided through Community Learning Centers (PKBM), which function to ensure lifelong learning opportunities for society. Nevertheless, the low level of public understanding and participation regarding the role of PKBM becomes an obstacle to optimizing its function. This community service program aims to increase public awareness and understanding of the importance of non-formal education through socialization activities at PKBM Insan Mandiri Gemilang in Tangerang City. The implementation method used a participatory approach through lectures, interactive discussions, and question-and-answer sessions involving the community and local community leaders. The results of the activity indicate a significant improvement in community understanding regarding the role of PKBM as a flexible alternative educational institution that is relevant to societal needs. The community also demonstrated positive attitudes and growing interest in participating in programs offered by PKBM. This activity proves that well-conducted socialization efforts can increase awareness of lifelong education and strengthen the position of PKBM as a community empowerment platform in the digital era.
