Abstract

National melon production has decreased from 2021 to 2023. One means to overcome this decline is through the expansion of planting areas. The potential of lowland areas can be optimized to enhance melon production. The development of melon varieties in lowlands relies heavily on the availability of germplasm. Genetic diversity within germplasm is a key prerequisite for producing adaptive and high yielding varieties. This research aims to identify melon genotypes with optimal growth and yield performance in lowland areas. The study was conducted at the Arga Makmur experimental farm, North Bengkulu Regency, from January to March 2024, at an altitude of 203.9 meters above sea level. The experiment used a single-factor Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 17 melon genotypes as treatments and three replications. Data were statistically analyzed using the F-test, and significant genotypic treatments were further evaluated using the Duncan Multiple Range Test at a 5% significance level. The results identified five selected melon genotypes based on high fruit weight, fruit diameter, and sweetness level: genotypes G3, G4, G7, G12, and G17.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential for students to face the challenges of the 21st century, particularly in biology education. This study aimed to describe the critical thinking skills and learning motivation of students at SMAN 1 Wirosari. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, the research involved 36 students selected through purposive random sampling from a population of 396. Data were collected using an essay-based test for critical thinking and a questionnaire for learning motivation, which were analyzed using statistical tools. Results showed that most students’ critical thinking skills were categorized as low, with an average score of 66.11%. Among five indicators of critical thinking based on Ennis' framework, all were in the medium category. Similarly, students’ learning motivation was mostly in the medium category, with an average score of 67.94%. The low performance in critical thinking and learning motivation was attributed to limited teaching methods and a lack of real-life contextual learning. To address this, innovative approaches such as eco-gamification with an Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) orientation are recommended to enhance students' engagement, motivation, and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This research was based on showing how the relationship of the perturbation method to the wave function entering the dispersive medium area. Disperse medium is a medium where when the wave enters the area, it experiences changes in wave shape and wave energy. The purpose of this study is to show how the perturbation method can be reduced to a term that is still linear with the assumption that the next term is very small so that the wave term is still linear to the wave change. This research is qualitative research. The place of this research is at the TD Pardede Institute of Science and Technology. From the analysis in this study, it was found that the wave experienced a decreasing intensity towards the depth of the dispersive medium with the assumption that the attenuation coefficient ( ) was still continuous along the depth of the material passed by the wave. In the case of seismic waves when the wave moves through the medium, its intensity decreases with distance. The presence of disturbances in the layer passed by the wave causes the shift of the material to experience a disturbance characteristic where the wave amplitude is getting smaller. This is because the absorption of wave energy by the particles of the dispersive medium continues to experience attenuation.

Abstract

The student’s learning outcome on 1st general chemistry is in the low score. Based on the observation, most of the students tend to memorize the formulas rather than understand the concepts that involve in almost chemistry subjects. Sometimes, this could lead to a misconception. Through this research, we are trying to identify the misconception that commonly happen in Chemical Kinetics to avoid the protracted mistakes that might affect the profession of theses student-teacher candidates. From this finding, it will also help the lecturers to find better teaching strategies and methods. The research approach used is a qualitative and descriptive approach. Subject of this research is the seconds year student-teacher candidates of chemistry education in Teachers College. The instrument that help to gather the student’s misconceptions is a four-tier diagnostic questions test, and to get more information on what causing the misconceptions we will do interview to some of the students.  From the analysis there are 52.17% of student who are misconception in rate equation reaction, 30.43% in order reaction, 13.04% inactivation energy, 17.39% rate constant reaction. From the inteview, it was found out that the causes of misconceptions are such as students’ unreadiness, inaccuracy in applying the concept during the learning process and lack of practices.
