Abstract

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a common gastrointestinal disorder that occurs in productive age, especially among university students. One lifestyle factor that is thought to contribute to the incidence of GERD is coffee consumption habits. This study aims to analyze the relationship between coffee consumption and the incidence of GERD in students of the Faculty of Science and Technology, State Islamic University of North Sumatra. This study used a case control design with a retrospective approach. The sample amounted to 82 people, consisting of 41 cases and 41 controls, selected using accidental sampling technique. Data were collected through GERD-Q questionnaire and food frequency questionnaire, then analyzed using chi-square test. The results showed that regular coffee consumption was significantly associated with the incidence of GERD (p = 0,001) with an OR of 6.86 (95% CI: 2,5-19,1). In contrast, frequency of consumption per day and type of coffee did not show a statistically significant association with the incidence of GERD (p > 0,05). This study concluded that regular coffee consumption is a significant risk factor for the incidence of GERD in university students. Health education regarding wise coffee consumption is needed to prevent gastrointestinal disorders in the student population.

Abstract

Depression as one of the major mental health issue in the world is known to only 12.7% of sufferers who have received medical treatment, while the majority of them have not received it. The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between the independence level of the elderly and depression at Sentra Terpadu Pangudi Luhur (STPL). This study is a quantitative correlative study with a cross sectional approach using primary data from 68 respondents from Sentra Terpadu Pangudi Luhur (STPL) based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Univariate analysis showed that most respondents experienced mild dependence (50%) but did not suffer from depression (75%). The results of the Spearman Rank correlation hypothesis test between the independence level of the elderly and depression showed a strong significant relationship in the negative direction (Correlation Coefficient -0.515) between the ADL Barthel Index score and the Geriatric Depression Scale-15 score. It means that the higher the level of dependence (not independent) of an elderly person, the higher the likelihood of depression. Currently, the elderly need a program to prevent dependency so that they can prevent depression in the future.

Abstract

The nutritional status of elementary school children is influenced by various factors, including breakfast habits and the amount of pocket money received each day. This study aims to determine the effect of pocket money and breakfast habits on the nutritional status of children at SDN 1 Mulyasari. This study employs a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consists of 48 students selected through total sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires and anthropometric measurements using the body mass index (BMI) according to age. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate methods (chi-square test with Fisher's exact test as an alternative). The results show that most respondents have high pocket money (91.7%) and often eat breakfast (72.9%). The majority of respondents (72.9%) have a normal BMI. There was no significant relationship between pocket money and BMI (p = 0.445), nor between breakfast frequency and BMI (p = 0.254). The conclusion of this study is that the amount of pocket money and breakfast habits do not have a strong influence on children's nutritional status. These findings are expected to serve as a consideration for schools and parents in fostering healthy eating habits in children.

Abstract

Portion standards and ingredient costs are two important interrelated components in determining the selling price of a dish. This study aims to analyze the relationship between animal protein portion standards and ingredient costs on the selling price of animal-based dishes at Catering K in the Karawang region. This is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design conducted from May to June 2025. The study population includes all data on portion standards for animal-based side dishes (chicken, eggs, meat, fish, squid, shrimp), ingredient costs, and the selling price of animal-based dishes. Data collection techniques used total sampling with a total of 28 dishes. The results of the study show that portion standards are divided into three sizes, namely I (35–80 g), II (42–100 g), and III (49–120 g), with an average compliance rate of 99.1%. Ingredient costs and selling prices were also divided into three categories according to portion size. The Spearman test results showed a significant relationship between portion standards and the selling price of animal-based dishes, with a p-value of 0.020 (p<0.05). The larger the portion size standard set, the higher the selling price charged. The Spearman test results also showed a significant correlation between ingredient costs and selling prices, with a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05). The higher the ingredient costs incurred, the higher the selling price set.

Abstract

On January 2025, the Selo Health Center reported seven measles cases at Jrakah Village. The study purposed to determine the relationship between immunization and nutritional status with measles outbreaks. This study used an analytical observational method with a 1:6 case-control study design. The sample of this study was 49 respondents who were selected using random sampling techniques in the at-risk population, and interviews and questionnaires were carried out for data collection. Data analysis was done using the Anthropocal calculator and the Chi-square test. The results of statistical analysis showed a relationship between basic immunization status (p-value = 0.041; OR = 8.824; 95%CI = 0.973 - 80.019), BIAS immunization status (p-value = 0.007; OR = 30.750; 95%CI = 2.562 - 369.092), and nutritional status (p-value = 0.016; OR = 9.867; 95%CI = 1.690 - 57.600) with a measles outbreak. Basic immunization status, BIAS immunization status, and nutritional status were risk factors for the measles outbreak at Jrakah Village. However, basic immunization status was not statistically significant as a risk factor for the measles outbreak at Jrakah Village. This could be due to the small number of samples and limited data in the study. Therefore, it is recommended that immunization coverage be increased and additional food (PMT) provided to improve nutritional status and minimize measles infection.

Abstract

Hyperemesis gravidarum is a psychiatric disorder in pregnant women marked by severe nausea and vomiting, potentially leading to physiological difficulties during pregnancy. Anxiety and other psychological factors might intensify the nausea and vomiting experienced by pregnant women. This study aimed to examine the correlation between anxiety and the incidence of hyperemesis gravidarum in pregnant women at RSIA Ananda Makassar from December 2022 to January 2023. The research methodology utilised was a quantitative study employing a cross-sectional design. The sample comprised 185 pregnant women in the first trimester, diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum and those without the condition, selected using purposive sampling. The tools employed included a demographic questionnaire and the Perinatal Anxiety Screening Scale (PASS), analysed via the Chi-Square test. The study's results produced a p-value of 0.000, signifying a correlation between the two variables, hence affirming the alternative hypothesis. This study concludes that a significant correlation exists between anxiety levels and the incidence of hyperemesis gravidarum in pregnant women at RSIA Ananda Makassar in 2023, highlighting the need for educational initiatives for pregnant women about the detrimental effects of anxiety on hyperemesis gravidarum.

Abstract

Markets are vulnerable places for fly breeding, especially when waste management and fly control are not properly implemented. Therefore, active community participation is crucial in maintaining market cleanliness through proper waste management and effective fly control. This study aims to examine the influence of community participation in waste management and fly control on the presence of flies at Pancur Batu Market, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. The research used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample size in this study was 54 respondents, and the data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the chi-square test. Based on the analysis results, there was a significant relationship between waste management and fly control with the level of fly presence at Pancur Batu Market (p < 0.05). Respondents with poor waste management and inadequate fly control had a higher risk of experiencing high fly presence. Poor waste management increased the risk by 2.246 times, while poor fly control increased the risk by 2.010 times compared to those with good management and control. These findings highlight the importance of community participation in optimizing waste management and fly control efforts to reduce fly populations in market environments.
