Abstract

This study aimed to determine the differences in Islamic Religious Education learning motivation between boarding students and non-boarding students, as well as the extent of these motivational differences. The research employed a quantitative approach using a comparative method. The population consists of 60 students at Darul Hikmah Mataram Junior High School, with the entire population included as the sample. Data was collected using a questionnaire based on a 5-point Likert scale. The findings revealed a significant difference in PAI learning motivation between boarding and non-boarding students. This conclusion was supported by an independent sample t-test using SPSS 27, which yielded a significance value of 0.004. Since the significance value was <0.05, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The implication of this research was that boarding school environments may provide more conducive conditions for enhancing students’ learning motivation, especially in religious education, through structured routines, stronger peer interactions, and closer academic supervision. These insights can guide educators and policymakers in developing strategies to improve learning motivation both within and outside boarding school systems.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the implementation of the five-day concept in religious and science learning which aimed to create synergy between the two disciplines in supporting the academic development and character of students. The concept of five days in this school integrated religious and science lessons with the aim of strengthening students' understanding of the two fields of science holistically. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study method, with data collection techniques through deep-interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study showed that the implementation of the five-day concept had succeeded in creating a balanced learning environment between religious values and scientific knowledge, despite challenges in adjusting the curriculum and teaching approaches. The synergy between religious and science learning in this school had a positive impact on the spiritual and intellectual development of students, as well as fostering a critical and creative attitude in facing life's problems. This research was expected to contribute to the development of a learning model that integrates religious values with scientific knowledge in Islamic schools.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore how students at Vocational High School interpret the use of Quizizz in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) classes and to identify the factors influencing their reception. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach and Stuart Hall’s reception theory, this research positions teachers as encoders, students as decoders, and Quizizz as the medium. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observations, and documentation involving three students and two IRE teachers. The findings revealed that most students adopted a dominant-hegemonic position, perceiving Quizizz as engaging and motivational, while a minority displayed a negotiated position, appreciating the gamification format but expressing concerns about the depth of spiritual content. Factors influencing reception include students’ religious background, prior learning experience, digital literacy, classroom dynamics, and the interactive design of Quizizz. The study highlights the importance of teacher strategies in balancing entertainment and educational substance. This research contributed academically by applying Hall’s reception model to Islamic education and practically by informing teachers and policymakers about the pedagogical potential of gamification. Despite its depth, the study's limitations lied in its small sample size and the absence of quantitative learning outcome measurements. Future research could adopt a mixed-methods approach and involve broader educational contexts to enhance generalizability and provide a more comprehensive understanding of gamification in religious education.

Abstract

The research aimed to assess the effects of students’ understanding of Islamic values, the impact of discipline, and their simultaneous influence on character building. A quantitative ex post facto design was employed, using multiple linear regression analysis via SPSS. The study was conducted at Politeknik Pelayaran Sumatera Barat (Poltekpel Sumbar), studies over a three‑month period from May to August 2025. The population comprised 168 students from batch VIII and IX, of whom 50 batch VIII students participated in the pilot test and 118 batch IX students served as the research sample through total sampling. The instrument was a questionnaire that had undergone validity and reliability testing and was administered directly to respondents outside scheduled class hours. The results indicated that Islamic values had significant effect on students’ character building (t=7.101 > t=1.66), so hypotheis 1 was accepted. Then, discipline exerted significant effect on students’ character building (t=3.442 > t=1.66), in other words, hypothesis 2 was accepted. Furthermore, islamic values and discipline have simultaneous effect on students’ character building (F=115.253 > F=3.07), it means hypothesis 3 was accepted. Based on these findings, it is recommended that Poltekpel Sumbar integrates modules reinforcing Islamic values and discipline training into the curriculum, alongside implementing a dedicated mentoring and discipline‑monitoring system. Embedding structured modules on Islamic values and discipline within the curriculum can serve as an effective strategy for fostering students’ character development, thereby informing institutional policy and pedagogical practices.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the impact of ChatGPT use on students’ learning productivity and provide recommendations for its effective utilization. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, documentation, and semi-structured interviews with 12 purposively selected active users. The data analysis employed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, emphasizing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that ChatGPT contributed significantly to enhancing efficiency in learning processes, improving conceptual understanding, and stimulating creativity among students. However, the study also uncovered several drawbacks, such as a decline in critical thinking skills, reduced motivation for independent literacy practices, and an increased tendency toward technological dependence. Within the specific context of Islamic Religious Education, the research further identified that some ChatGPT-generated responses were less accurate or misaligned with authoritative references, necessitating additional validation by educators and learners. The implications of this research highlight that ChatGPT can serve as a valuable supportive learning tool if applied proportionally. To achieve holistic and high-quality learning, students and teachers are advised to use ChatGPT with careful attention to information validation, cultivation of critical thinking, and strategies that minimize overreliance on technological assistance.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the strategy of modernizing Islamic religious education in madrasas to integrate religious knowledge and science, identify its implementation challenges, and examine its impact on students. Using a qualitative approach with a case study at MAN Palopo, the study involved principals, teachers, education personnel, madrasa committees, and grade XI IPA students. The results indicated that modernization was achieved by integrating Islamic and science curricula, project-based learning (PjBL) methods, and contextual approaches. The main challenges included limited interdisciplinary human resources, minimal technological infrastructure, educators and community resistance, and a lack of supporting regulations. This modernization positively impacted improving students’ scientific understanding, critical thinking, academic achievement, and religious awareness. The study recommended interdisciplinary training for teachers, technological infrastructure development, and flexibility of integration-based curricula. The implications of this research highlight that the modernization of Islamic religious education can serve as a model for other madrasas, encouraging policymakers to design more supportive regulations and enabling schools to balance faith-based values with scientific literacy in preparing students for global challenges.
