Abstract

Villages are one of the important pillars of national economic development, so that increasing local potential and empowering communities are key to village independence. The village of Jepang Pakis, Jati District, Kudus Regency, has a superior potential in the form of raja bulu bananas with a harvest of ±16,000 kg per year. However, its utilization is still limited to selling raw products at low prices, so it does not provide significant added value to the community. This condition is caused by a lack of innovation in processed products, weak business management, and limited marketing strategies. To overcome these problems, the Student Organization Capacity Building Program (PPK Ormawa) of UKM BISMA, Muria Kudus University, implemented community empowerment through the concept of the Raja Bulu Banana Entrepreneurial Village (Dewi Prabu) based on sustainability. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR) by involving the Women Farmers Group (KWT) and PKK mothers as active partners in the process of identifying potential, group discussions, product diversification training, business management assistance, digital marketing, and participatory evaluation. The initiative resulted in seven innovative banana-based products that are environmentally friendly and support the zero-waste concept: Sendookies, Golden Bana, Greenana Flour, EcoNana, Sunbana Leaf, Banaleaf Craft, and Bananique.This program has successfully improved entrepreneurial skills, fostered new business groups, expanded marketing, and strengthened the branding of entrepreneurial villages. Thus, the optimization of pisang raja bulu through product innovation has proven to increase economic added value, promote a green economy, and create sustainable entrepreneurial villages based on local potential.

Abstract

Banun Songket Enterprise is a Minangkabau weaving business group located in Solok Regency. Despite its strong potential, the enterprise continues to face several obstacles, particularly in terms of limited motif design variations and the relatively low utilization of social media platforms for promotional purposes. This community service program aimed to enhance product competitiveness through the creation of more attractive motifs, the use of digital design to accelerate production, and the optimization of social media marketing to expand market reach beyond the local area. The activities were realized through a combination of intensive training and ongoing business mentoring. Training was conducted over two days, while personalized business consultations were held over six months in six sessions. Outcomes were assessed through three stages: socialization and licensing, implementation (including motif design training, digital design, and social media marketing assistance), and monitoring and evaluation. The program successfully produced three new motifs with more appealing designs and established professional Instagram and TikTok accounts for Banun Songket. Both management and artisans showed high enthusiasm throughout the activities. However, challenges remain in ensuring continuous practice for digital motif design and maintaining consistent social media content due to the artisans’ busy schedules in fulfilling weaving orders. Future programs are expected to continue with support from Universitas Andalas and the Solok Regency Government.

Abstract

The peel of gadung tuber (Dioscorea hispida Dennst), abundantly found in Riting Village, Aceh Besar, represents a local natural resource with potential use as an environmentally friendly botanical insecticide. Until now, gadung peel has been treated merely as waste from tuber processing and has no economic value, even though it contains bioactive compounds such as diosgenin and saponin, which are known to be toxic to insects. This community service program aimed to produce a nanoemulsion-based botanical insecticide sample derived from gadung peel extract, evaluate its effectiveness against Crocidolomia pavonana larvae, and enhance local community knowledge and skills in utilizing gadung peel waste as a raw material for botanical insecticide production. The program was carried out in two stages: (1) sample preparation and bioassay testing, and (2) knowledge transfer and hands-on training through workshops. The results showed that gadung peel extract significantly affected larval mortality, with LC₅₀ and LC₉₅ values of 0.682% and 1.469%, respectively. The workshops successfully improved participants’ understanding of gadung’s potential as a natural insecticide source, technical skills in handling raw materials, and the ability to formulate and apply simple botanical insecticides using local ingredients. Outputs of the activity included a training module, a technical guideline, and prototype products for further development. Overall, this program positively contributed to enhancing community capacity in sustainable agricultural innovation and promoting the utilization of local natural resources with economic and environmental benefits.

Abstract

The utilization of sawdust waste in the early stages of mushroom cultivation represents an effort to support environmental conservation. However, challenges arise when the growing media becomes non-productive and remains underutilized. Accumulated baglog waste may serve as a reservoir for spore development, with the potential for airborne dispersion or transfer via workers’ clothing. Such conditions can trigger contamination within inoculation rooms, degrade media quality, and ultimately lead to cultivation failure. In addition, improper disposal practices, such as open dumping or burning, may contribute to environmental pollution and reduced sustainability of mushroom farming systems. Bioconversion technology offers a viable solution by transforming baglog waste into value-added products, including compost. Program components consisted of instructional delivery through an extension session on baglog waste bioconversion and hands-on practice in composting procedures. Practical implementation was supervised by the facilitation team to ensure participants’ comprehension and skill acquisition in processing non-productive baglog waste. The participatory approach enabled active engagement of participants throughout the program. Program implementation demonstrated an improvement in participants’ knowledge and technical competencies, particularly among members of the Limau Manis Sejahtera Women Farmers Group, in converting oyster mushroom baglog waste into compost. Participants successfully understood the composting stages and were able to independently apply the procedures. Baglog waste that was previously discarded or burned was effectively converted into compost, generating added value while simultaneously supporting environmentally sustainable agricultural practices.

Abstract

This activity aims to empower farmers in Wonokromo Village, Bantul Regency, through the implementation of irrigation technology using solar power and IoT. The village's population is predominantly farmers who rely heavily on agricultural products, particularly rice and secondary crops, during the dry season. However, one of the main challenges they face is limited water during the dry season, which leads to decreased agricultural productivity. The method used in this activity is designing a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) as an energy source to operate submersible pumps and IoT to support a more efficient and energy-efficient irrigation system. Activities include outreach to farmers about the benefits of renewable energy technology, PLTS and IoT design, and equipment maintenance training. Furthermore, ongoing mentoring is provided to enable farmers to independently manage this system. The results of this activity indicate the need for innovative and sustainable solutions to address these issues. This includes increasing farmer understanding of the use of environmentally friendly technology. An IoT-based solar irrigation system can increase agricultural land productivity by up to 20% and save on fuel purchases, and farmers can monitor their farmland via smartphone. This provides direct financial benefits to farmers and has a positive, sustainable impact on improving the welfare of farmers in Pandes Hamlet.

Abstract

 Digital transformation is a key factor in enhancing the competitiveness of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), particularly in rural areas that still face significant technological access gaps. This community engagement program aims to improve the digital literacy and skills of rural MSME actors producing gula saka (traditional brown sugar) through training on social media, online marketplaces, and Google Maps as tools for promotion and market expansion. The program employed a combination of pre-test, intensive hands-on training, and post-test to measure participants’ skill improvement. The training focused on digital branding, online marketing strategies, and business location mapping. Evaluation was conducted using a questionnaire covering three indicators: relevance, efficacy, and usefulness. The results show a substantial increase in participants’ digital skills, from 18% (pre-test) to 96% (post-test). The relevance indicator scored 3.6 out of 4, efficacy scored 3.0, and usefulness scored 4.0. Although no online transactions have occurred, the appearance of gula saka products on Google Maps indicates improved digital visibility. Participants perceived digital marketing as highly relevant and beneficial, although some challenges remain in applying these skills effectively. This program strengthens local branding and creates strategic opportunities for market expansion and gradual socio-economic impact. Continued mentoring is needed to ensure the consistent application of digital skills in business practices.

Abstract

Oyster mushrooms are a potential commodity to be developed because they can generate profits on both small and large scales. This is due to their high demand and selling value in both traditional markets and supermarkets. Along with this, continuous production activities produce baglog waste, which has so far only been piled up or burned. If left in this condition, it can become a new problem in oyster mushroom cultivation activities, such as becoming a source of pests and diseases that impact oyster mushroom production. Therefore, it is necessary to process baglog waste into economically valuable products such as organic fertilizer. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase the knowledge and skills of members of the Jawa Gadut Saiyo Oyster Mushroom Group (KWT) in processing baglog waste into organic fertilizer. This activity uses a participatory and applicative approach by actively involving KWT members in all stages of the activity. The activity was carried out in June 2025 using a socialization and demonstration method divided into 5 stages of activities: filling out a questionnaire, socialization, discussion, and demonstration. The results of the activity showed a very good increase in knowledge of KWT members (100%) regarding the processing of baglog waste into organic fertilizer after the socialization of baglog waste processing. Members of the Gadut Saiyo Javanese Oyster Mushroom KWT became skilled in making organic fertilizer according to the implementation stages and produced organic fertilizer that was ready for field application.

Abstract

Empowering the Sepakat Farmers Group Association (Gapoktan) aims to strengthen the capabilities of Gapoktan, who cultivate Prima-certified vegetable horticulture, but has not been able to develop its agribusinesses that give an impact on economic improvement to its members. Since 2021, several types of vegetables produced by Gapoktan have been receiving certification from the West Sumatra Provincial Food Service as a guarantee that pesticide levels in these vegetables are below the threshold, making them safe for consumption. However, Gapoktan still faces obstacles in marketing, because the market does not differentiate the price of certified and uncertified vegetables. The activity methods include outreach, practices for processing inputs based on local resources, and processing healthy vegetable products into snacks to add value and durability, as well as strengthening marketing institutions for Prima-certified products. Gapoktan has been linked with the Canduang Koto Laweh State-Owned Enterprise as a marketing partner for Prima-certified vegetables, opening new marketing relationships to intermediate consumers, such as hospitals. The Agam Regency Government will also revitalize the Agribusiness Sub-Terminal (STA) and the Agribusiness Micro-Credit Institution (LKMA) to receive Prima-certified vegetable products at more reasonable prices. In the short term, this empowerment program for farmer groups (Gapoktan) has resolved marketing barriers, increased product added value, and expanded access to agricultural markets. It is hoped that in the long term, through strengthened marketing institutions, Prima-certified vegetable products will be more competitive and their market share will expand, thereby further increasing farmer interest and welfare in developing Prima-based healthy vegetable farming.

Abstract

Women’s empowerment is a vital strategy in strengthening household economic resilience and promoting sustainable social development. This study aims to enhance the capacity of the Dasawisma women’s group in Nagari Pangian by transforming local ginger (Zingiber officinale) into a high-value instant ginger drink product. The activity employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, emphasizing active participation of the community throughout all stages, including education, practical training, production assistance, packaging, and evaluation of learning outcomes and entrepreneurial motivation. A total of 20 participants took part intensively through three main stages: knowledge dissemination, technical training, product processing, packaging, and evaluation. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test assessments, skill observations, and entrepreneurship motivation questionnaires. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge, from an average score of 52 (low category) to 86 (high category), indicating a 65.4% improvement. Moreover, 85% of participants were able to independently produce instant ginger drink that met basic quality standards, with good sensory characteristics and a storage stability of up to six months. Beyond technical outcomes, the activity fostered social transformation by increasing participants’ confidence, group solidarity, and entrepreneurial awareness. The implementation of appropriate technology based on local potential through the PAR approach proved effective in transforming ginger from a subsistence commodity into a value-added product. This empowerment model could be replicated in other rural communities to promote bio pharmaceutical downstream development, strengthen household economies, and advance women’s independence based on local wisdom.

Abstract

Food availability in elementary schools plays a vital role in supporting local food security and fostering early environmental awareness. However, most schools in Indonesia have not yet utilized their yard areas optimally, and students’ understanding of sustainable agriculture remains limited. This community engagement program aimed to introduce an integrated farming model based on the green economy as a contextual learning medium and a support mechanism for implementing the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5). The program was conducted over four months at SDN 39 Tanjung Aur, Padang City, employing a school-based participatory approach. The activities consisted of three main stages: socialization, training, and mentoring with evaluation. A total of 24 students and 13 teachers participated actively in organic vegetable cultivation, compost production, and the maintenance of poultry as fertilizer producers. Evaluation was carried out through pre–posttests, observation, and the P5 rubric. The program demonstrated significant improvements in participants’ understanding and skills. Knowledge of integrated farming increased from 42% to 88%, and compost-making skills improved from 30% to 80%. Teachers successfully integrated the activities into thematic learning, while students showed higher levels of participation, independence, and environmental responsibility. The integrated farming model based on the green economy proved effective as a project-based learning strategy that enhances students’ competence while promoting food self-sufficiency in elementary schools. This program can be replicated in other schools as a best practice in green economy–based education.
