Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of PPKn teachers in shaping students' discipline. The research was conducted at SMAN 06 Mataram using a qualitative approach and case study method. Data collection involved interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that PPKn teachers play key roles, including being creative and innovative educators, serving as role models, and enforcing discipline through Kebun Bina Karakter, a program where students engage in farming activities as a form of sanction for indiscipline. However, challenges persist, primarily due to the influence of technology, such as mobile phones, which make it difficult for students to distinguish between right and wrong. Furthermore, many students lack clear life goals. The study concludes that PPKn teachers have effectively contributed to enhancing students' discipline at SMAN 06 Mataram. Future research could explore how integrating positive technology use that can further strengthen students' discipline in the face of digital-era challenges.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain the evaluation of disaster management policies in the Pasaman regency. William N Dunn's criteria theory assessment is used in this qualitative descriptive study. The data-gathering methods used were observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis strategies are data reduction, data presentation, conclusions, and verification. The findings of this study shows that the objectives of Pasaman Regency's disaster risk reduction strategy have not been met and must be evaluated due to the suboptimal execution of disaster risk reduction activities. The effectiveness instrument revealed that actions, such as drafting contingency plans, had not been implemented, and the objectives of the disaster resistant village (Destana) and disaster awareness group (KSB) activities had not been met, resulting in this risk reduction policy not being enforced adequately. Next, a lack of human resources in terms of competence and funding has prevented various initiatives, such as the sustainability of Destana and KSB, from being implemented, failing to meet efficiency objectives. Next, the adequacy of Pasaman Regency's BPBD, such as the level of success of disaster risk reduction operations carried out, is deemed insufficient to address future issues. Then, it was discovered that the application of this policy did not create an even output in each Nagari that served as the study locus. In terms of the responsiveness of the implementation of the disaster risk reduction policy, which was carried out to elicit a positive response from the community, and finally, in terms of the accuracy of the implementation of this disaster risk reduction policy, it can be concluded that while it was right on target, it was not executed optimally.

Abstract

Character education is crucial in fostering moral and ethical values, which are essential for shaping responsible, respectful, and civically minded citizens. Effective character education must address not only cognitive and emotional dimensions but also integrate religious values, which are fundamental in guiding personal morals and ethics. This research, conducted at SMPN 1 and SMPN 2 in Kota Pariaman, aims to explore a holistic approach to incorporating religiosity into education. The study employed a literature review and case study analysis to identify strategies and best practices for this integration. Results suggest that embedding religiosity within character education through a well-rounded curriculum, targeted teacher training, and a supportive school environment significantly strengthens students' moral and ethical development. The study concludes that an integrated character education approach, enriched by religious values, can play a pivotal role in cultivating good citizenship. As a result, collaborative efforts from government, educators, and the wider community are essential for the successful implementation of these strategies.

Abstract

Death rituals in Indonesian society vary among different tribes. This article aims to describe the manyanda tradition practiced by the Minangkabau community in Nagari Talang, Solok Regency. Although this tradition remains prevalent, there are concerns among community members that it may become extinct due to its lengthy processes and the financial burden it places on grieving families. Therefore, this article also explores the community's efforts to preserve the manyanda tradition. Employing a qualitative research methodology from an anthropological perspective, the researcher conducted interviews with fourteen informants and engaged in participatory observations over two weeks in Nagari Talang. Data were collected through interview transcripts, photographs, and relevant documents. The analysis involved identifying themes and patterns from the gathered information. The implementation of the manyanda tradition consists of six stages: preparation of household items, selection of participants, the second day of tahlil, recitation, counting the days, and providing clothing to the participants. To sustain the manyanda tradition, various stakeholders, including the Kerapatan Adat Nagari (KAN) and Bundo Kanduang, have established rules for the distribution of clothing. They also impose sanctions to kaum who do not participate in the tradition. Additionally, efforts are being made to educate the wider community about the manyanda tradition, and the local government is providing funding for traditional gatherings that focus on this ritual. Further research is needed to explore the aspects of sanctions and their impact on the implementation of this tradition.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) at SMP Negeri 1 Gunung Talang. The research was driven by limited dissemination and understanding of the independent learning curriculum, particularly regarding P5. The objective of this research is to analyze the implementation of P5, identify challenges encountered during its execution, and explore strategies to address these challenges. This study employs a qualitative research approach with a descriptive method. Informants were selected using purposive sampling, and data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data validity was ensured using triangulation of sources, while analysis involved data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that P5 is implemented for grade VII students at SMP Negeri 1 Gunung Talang. However, challenges include insufficient socialization of the program, difficulties in developing project modules, and issues in allocating time for project execution. To address these issues, the school has conducted teacher training on the P5 framework within the independent learning curriculum and facilitated discussions among teachers involved in class projects to refine time management strategies. Future studies should explore the long-term impacts of P5 implementation on student character development and academic performance. Additionally, research could investigate the integration of P5 across different grade levels to assess its broader applicability and effectiveness. Quantitative studies measuring the correlation between teacher training effectiveness and project outcomes would also provide valuable insights. Furthermore, examining the role of parental involvement and community support in enhancing P5 implementation may offer a more comprehensive understanding of its success factors.

Abstract

This study explores the forms, causes, and impacts of discrimination faced by female farm laborers in Jorong Koto Baru, Nagari Aie Dingin, Solok Regency. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, the research involved informants such as the village head (jorong), landowners, female and male farm laborers, and the families of farm workers. Data were collected from primary and secondary sources through observations, interviews, and documentation. To ensure validity, source triangulation was applied. The data analysis process included reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal three main forms of discrimination experienced by female farm laborers: wage disparities, unequal treatment, and the burden of dual workloads. These discriminatory practices are rooted in patriarchal societal norms that perceive women as subordinate. The impacts of this discrimination include significant debt due to inadequate wages, limited social interaction with the community caused by exhaustive daily work schedules, deteriorating physical health due to insufficient rest, and strained family relationships resulting from a lack of communication.

Abstract

This research was driven by issues related to the national character of students at Darussalam Aur Duri Sumani Islamic Boarding School, where students from diverse regions live and interact daily. The focus of the research is on the implementation of national character education, especially in an environment prone to misunderstandings, indiscipline, and dishonesty. The study aims to describe the form of national character education, the factors influencing its implementation, and its impact on students, focusing on four core values: religiosity, discipline, honesty, and friendship. This qualitative research uses descriptive methods with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research involves primary and secondary data sources, and purposive sampling for selecting informants, with data validity tested through source triangulation. Data analysis followed stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion. Findings indicate that the pesantren addresses character issues by implementing habits that promote these values, including religious practices, discipline, honesty, and friendship. The factors influencing this implementation are the objectives of the pesantren, its learning environment, and the students' conditions. The impact of this education is evident in the development of positive personalities, enhanced kinship, and improved politeness in language. Limitations of this research include its focus on only one pesantren, limiting its generalizability, and the lack of exploration into external factors influencing character education.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of political literacy improvement programs by UK-WP2SOSPOL to enhance students' political knowledge. A qualitative descriptive method was used, with data collected through interviews and secondary sources such as websites, journals, and supporting documents. Informants included Student Affairs Expert Staff, Advisors, the Executive Board and UK-WP2SOSPOL members. The findings reveal two key stages in program implementation: planning and execution. Activities include social-political classes, public discussions, and bulletin publications. Supporting factors include organizational capabilities and the commitment of program implementers. However, challenges include weak organizational management, causing delays in execution, and limited dissemination of information beyond UK-WP2SOSPOL members, restricting broader student participation. This study highlights the need for improved organizational strategies and wider outreach efforts to ensure the program’s success. Strengthening management capabilities and expanding communication channels to engage a broader audience are recommended to maximize the impact of political literacy initiatives.

Abstract

This study explores the application of technology-based learning media in Pancasila and Civic Education (PPKn) for eleventh-grade students at SMA N 1 Lubuk Basung, Agam Regency, West Sumatra. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation, while analysis followed the steps of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Findings indicate that technology-based media have been integrated into PPKn instruction in this classroom, with teachers skillfully managing their use despite challenges. Key obstacles include time required for device setup, limited Wi-Fi access, and student-reported issues, such as distracting shadows on PPT slides, unclear text, and low video volume. To address these challenges, teachers take measures such as preparing media in advance to maximize instructional time, providing alternative media options if needed, ensuring internet access through personal mobile data for hotspotting, incorporating student feedback into media evaluation, and participating in school-provided training on effective technology use in teaching. This research is limited to only one school in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, so the same problems may not be found in other places, for example in urban areas, obstacles such as internet access are not a major problem.

Abstract

he Village Consultative Body (Badan Permusyawaratan Desa or BPD) acts as a mediator between the community and the village government, primarily tasked with accommodating and channeling community aspirations. This study examines the effectiveness of the BPD in fulfilling this function in Banjar Lopak Village, Kuantan Singingi Regency, and identifies the challenges faced by the institution. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews with the village head and BPD members and analyzed using triangulation techniques to ensure validity. Findings reveal that the BPD has not effectively performed its role due to limited human resource capacity. Many members lack understanding of their duties, resulting in unmet community aspirations and dissatisfaction. The study is limited to Banjar Lopak Village, with potential biases from qualitative methods. Future research could explore multiple villages and employ mixed-methods to provide broader and more comprehensive insights.
