Abstract

Quality seedlings are characterized by their ability to adapt to their environment, grow well when planted, and are healthy and uniform. The quality of seedlings will determine the quality of future plants that play a role in land rehabilitation activities. Land rehabilitation activities preferably involve farmer groups from the local community, especially those around the location of the activity. The involvement of the surrounding community can increase community participation in plant maintenance. The purpose of the service is to help village communities living around the Production Forest area of KPH Sivia Patuju through increased knowledge of Nursery Management. Extension activities are carried out using the method of delivering material to individuals, groups, and masses while training through lectures, discussions, and tutorials. The results of the service consisted of counseling activities in the form of material on seed scarification and the use of good planting media. Training activities consist of how to make solid and liquid organic fertilizers. The community service activities provided good results in nursery management characterized by maximum seedling growth. The success of the nursery is evidence of an increased understanding of the community.

Abstract

Bumi Makmur District is located in a swampy area with the main livelihood being rice cultivation. Vegetables cannot be produced in this region because the swamp soil is acidic and pyrite. One of the solutions offered to meet the needs of vegetables is hydroponic cultivation. Hydroponic training was carried out to increase public knowledge about the cultivation of vegetable crops with hydroponics by socialization and practice of wick system hydroponics. The training participants were Field Agricultural Extension Workers and Farmer Groups, carried out in the hall of the Bumi Makmur Agricultural Extension Center. The number of training participants was 24 people, consisting of 20 men and 4 women. All of the training participants were >18 years old with education levels ranging from junior high school to Master's level. The trainees who had heard the term hydroponics through the internet, radio/television, print media, family, and school were 91.67%. Participants who had cultivated vegetable crops with hydroponics were only 4.17% and planned to cultivate plants hydroponically was 83.33%. A total of 93.83% of participants had never and 95.83% were interested in participating in hydroponic training. The final survey showed that 95.83% of participants wanted to take part in advanced training on hydroponic systems and techniques with hands-on practice methods and a training duration of 2-3 days. Only 58.33% of participants rated hydroponic training as very important. The results of the basic ability test about the participants' knowledge of hydroponics showed an increase in the average score from the initial 50.00 to 68.7.

Abstract

Early childhood and elementary school reading training is essential in forming a literacy foundation for children. This training activity aims to improve children's reading literacy in Tanjung Pasir Tarakan Village, North Kalimantan. The training methods used are demonstration and training. The training activities are designed through creative and interactive activities to stimulate children in reading activities and help them understand their meaning. The stages of this training activity consist of the initial stage, the implementation stage, and the final stage. The initial stage is a form of planning before the reading training is carried out; the implementation stage is the process of reading training activities. Activities include demonstrations and direct practice of reading with media through picture stories, letter recognition, and short stories. The final stage is to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the activities that have been carried out. The results of the implementation of this activity show that the fishermen's children are very enthusiastic about participating in the reading training. Children show a significant increase in interest in reading activities; children can already recognize letters, their vocabulary increases, they can read simple words, and they can already read short stories (for lower-grade children). This training shows the good impact of this reading training program on children's reading abilities. This training is an early milestone for the development of children's literacy.

Abstract

The floating raft technology presents an innovative solution to address the flooding challenges that frequently disrupt agriculture in Tanjung Sanggalang Village, Pulang Pisau Regency. With this technology, floating farming on water surfaces becomes feasible, allowing the land to be no longer affected by floods and enabling farmers to utilize it more effectively, thereby increasing overall agricultural production. Floating raft technology aims to help improve food security and the economy of the Tanjung Sanggalang community by expanding agricultural areas and enhancing crop production. The community service methods include Focus Group Discussions (FGD), material presentations, hands-on practice, and evaluation. The results of the community service show that the practical training on floating raft construction was highly beneficial to all participants. The training met participants' expectations, with 100% of participants reporting that their expectations were fulfilled. Therefore, the training on floating raft construction, seedling, organic fertilizers, pesticides, and harvesting has been successfully conducted.

Abstract

Pejagan Village in Bangkalan Regency, East Java, has a population of around 6,500 people with the majority working in the agriculture and fisheries sectors, supported by the Mutiara Laut Cooperative which provides economic services. The village community has local natural potential such as korkor clams and scallops. So far, clam meat has been sold to restaurants outside Madura to improve the family economy, but the shells often become waste due to a lack of processing knowledge. Shell waste is scattered on the side of residents' houses or the side of village roads and gives an unpleasant aroma to the surrounding community. This community service activity was carried out to educate residents about the benefits of shell waste in calcium-rich flour using counseling methods, leaflets, questions and answers, and evaluation using questionnaires. Respondents who are residents around the Mutiara Laut Cooperative are women, most of whom are wives of local fishermen, invited to be given increased knowledge and changes in attitudes toward the use of shell waste.

Abstract

The agricultural sector is an important sector that contributes to economic growth of 13.28%. However, the farm industry is currently experiencing an imbalance in the age of farmers because most farmers have reached old age, the number of farmers aged 19-39 years (millennial farmers) is only 21.93%. In addition, the occurrence of climate change also affects land productivity. One way to reduce climate change is to use organic fertilizers to reduce chemical fertilizers. The purpose of the activity is to increase and strengthen the capacity of the Pagar Bersemi Young Farmers Group through the use of rabbit livestock liquid waste into rabbit urine liquid organic fertilizer to increase land productivity and realize sustainable agriculture. The activity was carried out through (1) socialization of rabbit livestock waste processing technology into rabbit urine liquid organic fertilizer; (2) training in rabbit livestock waste processing technology into liquid organic fertilizer; (3) mentoring and evaluation; and (4) activities for program sustainability. The results of the activity showed that (1) increasing the knowledge and skills of partners about processing rabbit livestock liquid waste into liquid organic fertilizer, (2) partners can process rabbit livestock liquid waste into rabbit urine liquid organic fertilizer.
