Abstract

This study examines the use of code mixing and code switching among university students during English classroom interaction. Using a descriptive qualitative design, data were collected from one English class consisting of 25 students through classroom observations, audio recordings, and interviews. The findings reveal three types of code switching (intersentential, intrasentential, and tag switching) and three types of code mixing (insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization). Students switched and mixed codes due to limited vocabulary, the need for clarification, classroom atmosphere, and peer solidarity. These practices served pedagogical, communicative, cognitive, and social functions. The study concludes that code switching and code mixing are natural bilingual strategies that support understanding and classroom engagement. Teachers are encouraged to apply strategic bilingual approaches to facilitate learning while promoting English proficiency.

Abstract

Academic integrity has become a very important issue in higher education recently, along with the high use of Generative AI technology in academic writing. This study aims to analyze students' needs for plagiarism prevention through practical anti-plagiarism guidelines in the Vocational Higher Education environment. This study applied a descriptive survey research design involving 80 students from four study programs in the Business Administration Department of the Pontianak State Polytechnic. Data were obtained through a structured questionnaire that assessed awareness of plagiarism, academic writing practices, digital literacy, use of reference managers, and the need for institutional support. The results of this study indicate that students already have a fairly good conceptual understanding of plagiarism, but still face difficulties in practice due to a lack of information or facilities for learning academic writing skills. This study found a gap between these two aspects, indicating a strong need for practical and easily accessible anti-plagiarism guidelines.

Abstract

Having digital literacy skills can support the writing of scientific papers to be more qualified. Various technical matters are sometimes often underestimated such as wasted time tidying up the position of paragraphs, difficulty finding reference sources, difficulty processing data using basic software. Difficulty compiling bibliographies automatically and so on. This is what actually backfires on technological developments. Instead of facilitating the process of writing scientific papers, it complicates the process. Therefore, the author analyzes the extent of students' skills in mastering digital skills to support writing papers. The purpose of this study is to analyze students' digital literacy skills reviewed from eight aspects, functional skills, creativity, collaboration, communication, the ability to select information, critical thinking, socio-cultural understanding, and data security. The method used is quantitative descriptive research. The results of this study indicate that students still face several obstacles, especially in creativity, sorting information, critical thinking, and data security. This causes the scientific papers produced to be less than good. With digital literacy in students, there will be a positive impact to facilitate the process of writing scientific papers. Digital literacy training and familiarization are needed to ensure students are able to optimally utilize digital literacy to improve the quality of their scientific work.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between teacher salaries and the level of teacher well-being in public and private schools. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 50 teacher respondents from various educational backgrounds and institutions. The results indicate that salary influences teachers' perceptions of well-being, particularly in terms of meeting basic needs, emotional stability, and work motivation. However, it was also found that well-being is not solely determined by salary, but also by other factors such as the work environment, workload, and opportunities for self-development. These findings provide an important contribution to education policymakers in designing a more equitable reward system oriented towards improving the quality of life of educators.

Abstract

Abuse of authority constitutes one of the forms of corruption regulated under Article 3 of Law Number 31 of 1999 in conjunction with Law Number 20 of 2001 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes. This study aims to analyze the application of the element of unlawfulness in the offense of abuse of authority through the Decision of the Jakarta Corruption Court Number 34/Pid.Sus-TPK/2025/PN.Jkt.Pst involving Thomas Trikasih Lembong. The study focuses on the application of the unlawfulness element, the boundary between policy discretion and abuse of authority, and the implications of the decision for legal certainty in public policymaking. This research employs a normative juridical method using statutory, conceptual, and case approaches. The findings indicate that the application of the unlawfulness element in the decision combines both formal and material approaches. Furthermore, the decision raises issues regarding criminal liability since the defendant was found guilty despite the absence of evidence showing personal gain. The study also reveals that the distinction between legitimate policy discretion and punishable abuse of authority remains unclear, potentially creating legal uncertainty for public officials in making strategic policy decisions.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the evident gender distribution inequality in strategic positions among the laity, particularly in the position of field coordinator within the Parish Pastoral Council (DPP) of Maria Ratu Damai Tomohon, As well as the existence of cultural barriers and misinterpretations of teachings that limit the role of women. The purpose of this study is to obtain a comprehensive understanding of gender equality in women’s leadership, to identify the factors hindering their involvement in the DPP structure, as well as to analyze the phenomenon through the perspective of Pancasila values and Civic Education. The research method used is a qualitative approach employing the Miles and Huberman data analysis model to ensure the depth of observation. The findings of the study show that over the past 39 years: 1. Strategic leadership has been dominated by men, creating a “glass ceiling” phenomenon due to women’s low self-confidence. 2. The double burden of domestic responsibilities; 3. As well as a patriarchal culture that is not yet aligned with the implementation of the fifth principle of Pancasila. This study recommends that Church leaders implement affirmative policies, such as quotas for women’s representation, organizing leadership training programs (public speaking), and strengthening gender literacy so that the parish can become an inclusive democratic forum for all parishioners.

Abstract

The rapid growth of modern Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia reflects a significant transformation in the relationship between religion, education, and contemporary social aspirations. While previous studies have predominantly examined Islamic education through the perspectives of institutional transformation, educational marketization, and parental school choice, limited attention has been given to understanding how Muslim middle-class families negotiate religious aspirations alongside neoliberal educational values. This study aims to examine the rise of Islamic boarding schools in West Sumatra through the perspective of pious neoliberalism, focusing on how families construct Islamic education as a strategy for producing pious, disciplined, and socially competitive children. This study employs a qualitative case study approach conducted in two modern Islamic boarding schools in West Sumatra, namely Ar-Risalah and Nurul Ikhlas. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with parents, school leaders, and teachers, as well as direct observations of institutional practices. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal three interrelated dimensions of the emergence of pious neoliberal educational aspirations among Muslim middle-class families. First, Islamic boarding schools are perceived as controlled moral environments that protect children from contemporary social risks and cultivate religious discipline. Second, Islamic education has shifted into a form of long-term educational investment through which families seek to accumulate religious, cultural, and academic capital for future social mobility. Third, modern Islamic boarding schools contribute to the formation of an ideal Muslim subject who combines Islamic morality with academic achievement, global competencies, and competitiveness. This study argues that neoliberalism does not necessarily diminish the role of religion within education; rather, it reshapes religious aspirations by integrating piety with values of self-improvement, educational investment, and social distinction. The findings contribute to broader discussions on the neoliberal transformation of education, Muslim middle-class formation, and the changing nature of Islamic educational aspirations in contemporary societies.
