Abstract

Climate change mitigation is a crucial subject that needs to be well understood. However, many elementary school students still lack adequate climate change mitigation skills. This study aims to explore teachers’ perceptions of climate change mitigation education for children by integrating the STEM approach and Vision II of Scientific Literacy. The background of this research is Indonesia's commitment to the Paris Agreement to combat climate change, despite the fact that the country remains one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, climate change mitigation education needs to be taught contextually through STEM and scientific literacy approaches. This research employed a qualitative method with data triangulation through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis. Thematic analysis was conducted using Braun & Clarke’s (2006) model. The findings indicate that teachers perceive terms such as greenhouse effect, greenhouse gases, and global warming as difficult for students to understand, thus hindering meaningful comprehension of climate change mitigation. Furthermore, there is a lack of instructional media that simplifies these concepts for easier student understanding. Learning materials, student worksheets (LKPD), and media that connect climate change mitigation to socio-scientific issues rooted in environmental and social contexts are also currently unavailable.

Abstract

Civic education in elementary schools plays a crucial role in developing students’ civic disposition; however, current learning practices still predominantly emphasize cognitive aspects rather than affective and behavioral dimensions (Torney-Purta et al., 2015; Zubaedi, 2015). This study aims to systematically review research on the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in developing civic disposition among elementary school students. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA framework, including identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion stages. A total of 15 articles published between 2015 and 2025 were analyzed from SINTA-indexed journals, reputable international journals, and Scopus-indexed sources. The findings reveal that PBL enhances student engagement, critical thinking, collaboration, and social responsibility (Hmelo-Silver, 2015; Barrows, 2012; Anazifa & Djukri, 2017). Although most studies focus on cognitive outcomes, PBL also contributes to civic disposition development, including social awareness, participation, and responsibility. However, studies explicitly examining civic disposition remain limited. Therefore, further research is needed to strengthen empirical evidence.

Abstract

Education plays a crucial role in shaping future generations, not only through formal schooling but also through active parental involvement. Despite Indonesia's improved PISA 2022 ranking to 63rd place, the scores in reading, mathematics, and science have declined, highlighting the need to enhance the quality of learning. In response to 21st-century challenges, students must be equipped with critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving abilities, and digital literacy. Mathematics, as a subject that fosters logical thinking and problem-solving skills, is often perceived as difficult and uninteresting by students. To overcome this issue, the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model is applied, especially when combined with an ethnomathematics approach that integrates local culture into the learning process, making it more meaningful and relevant. This study aims to investigate the effect of the ethnomathematics-based PBL model on the problem-solving abilities of fourth-grade students at SDN Gugus XIV in Bengkulu City. A quantitative research method was employed using a quasi-experimental design: Matching Only Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The sample included fourth-grade students from SDN 45 and SDN 42. Data were collected through essay tests using pretest and posttest techniques and analyzed using a t-test. The results showed a significant difference with a Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 < 0.05, and the average score of the experimental class (80.84) was higher than the control class (62.43). The t-test result (tcount = 5.008 > ttable = 1.683) indicates that the PBL model based on ethnomathematics significantly improves students’ problem-solving abilities. It is recommended that further research be conducted to explore the effectiveness of this model across different cultural contexts.

Abstract

Learning media is something that is very necessary in every lesson. Learning media supports the achievement of the learning objectives themselves, especially the use of concrete media in class 1 students on geometry material. Mathematics learning geometry phase A class 1 found problems regarding the material for compiling (composing) and breaking down (decomposing) flat shapes, namely the lack of concrete media that supports learning geometry on this material so that students' understanding is still not optimal. Based on these problems, the researcher conducted research on the use of tangram media, with the aim of knowing the learning outcomes of students in composing (composing) and decomposing (decomposing) flat shapes. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques namely observation and evaluation results of students. The learning outcomes data obtained by students is an average of 78.8 with the highest score of 100 and the lowest score of 40. Based on the results of these data it can be said that the ability of students in compiling (composing) and decomposing (decomposing) flat shapes is still very varied so that further use of tangram media is needed to further improve student learning outcomes.
