Abstract

The selection process for Indonesian civil service schools demands high physical performance standards, yet structured and digitized physical coaching systems remain scarce. This study aimed to develop and examine the effectiveness of CoachKu, an Android-based application serving as a coach marketing platform and training support system for selection preparation. Adopting the Borg and Gall Research and Development model, the study involved 40 senior high school students as prospective selection candidates using a one-group pretest-posttest design. Instruments comprised student response questionnaires, physical performance pretests and posttests, and expert validity scales. Analytical techniques included paired sample t-test, normalized gain score (N-Gain), effect size (Cohen’s d), product-moment validity, and Cronbach’s Alpha reliability. Results revealed significant improvement between pre-test (M = 56.52; SD = 3.71) and posttest (M = 73.03; SD = 3.91) with t = 54.64, p < 0.001. The average N-Gain was 0.4024 (moderate category) and the effect size Cohen’s d = 4.25 (large category). All questionnaire items were valid (r > 0.312) with high reliability (α = 0.8745). Expert validation indicated product feasibility of 93.00% (very feasible). It is concluded that the CoachKu application is both practically and significantly effective in improving the physical performance of prospective civil service school selection candidates.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of dance activities in improving physical fitness based on a review of recent literature. The method employed is a systematic literature review of various empirical studies related to dance activities and components of physical fitness. The findings indicate that dance activities significantly contribute to improvements in cardiorespiratory capacity, muscle strength, flexibility, coordination, and body balance. Several studies report that structured dance exercises, such as Zumba, can significantly enhance aerobic endurance and dynamic balance. Furthermore, among the elderly, dance programs have been shown to effectively improve gait patterns, body stability, and muscle strength. Variations in dance types also influence fitness outcomes, with modern dance tending to have a greater impact compared to other forms, while traditional dance demonstrates advantages in certain contexts, even surpassing conventional exercises such as moderate jogging. Moreover, the integration of dance movements into fitness programs, such as traditional dance-based exercise routines, has proven effective in enhancing multiple components of physical fitness and holds strong potential for application in physical education. Overall, these findings confirm that dance can serve as an effective alternative or complement to conventional exercise, while also embodying cultural values that support the preservation of local wisdom

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) approach on learning motivation and sprint running skills among physical education Students. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 40 students divided into an experimental group and a control group using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected through a Likert-scale learning motivation questionnaire and a 100-meter sprint skill test. The data were analyzed using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test after fulfilling the assumptions of normality and homogeneity tests. The results showed significant differences between the experimental and control groups in learning motivation and sprint running skills, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The average learning motivation in the experimental group increased by 17.35, while the control group increased only by 5.35. In sprint running skills, the experimental group improved by 2.10 seconds, whereas the control group improved only by 0.75 seconds. These findings indicate that the TGfU approach is effective in improving student engagement, learning motivation, and motor skills. Therefore, TGfU can be used as an innovative alternative learning model in higher education physical education.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between arm muscle ability and 50-meter freestyle swimming speed among students of the Physical Education Study Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Mahakarya Aceh. The study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational research design. The population consisted of students enrolled in the swimming course, while the sample comprised 20 students selected using purposive sampling based on predetermined criteria. Arm muscle ability was measured using a 60-second push-up test, whereas freestyle swimming speed was assessed through a 50-meter freestyle swimming test with time recorded in seconds. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, linearity tests, and Pearson Product-Moment correlation analysis at a significance level of 0.05. The descriptive analysis showed that the mean score of arm muscle ability was 38.65 repetitions (SD = 7.24), while the mean 50-meter freestyle swimming time was 35.72 seconds (SD = 3.41). The results of the Pearson correlation test revealed a correlation coefficient of r = -0.785 with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings indicate a significant and strong negative relationship between arm muscle ability and 50-meter freestyle swimming speed. Students with better arm muscle ability tended to achieve shorter swimming times, indicating higher swimming speed. It can be concluded that arm muscle ability is an important factor associated with 50-meter freestyle swimming performance among Physical Education students.

Abstract

Research on outdoor play activities (OPA) and early childhood motor skills has received considerable attention due to its significant role in supporting children's physical, cognitive, and social development. However, the global literature has not been comprehensively mapped over a long period. This study aims to analyze the trends, structure, and dynamics of OPA research during the period 2006–2026. The study uses a bibliometric approach. Data were obtained from the Scopus database, consisting of 211 systematically selected publications, and then analyzed using VOSviewer software through visualization of collaboration networks, co-citations, and keyword co-occurrences. The study findings indicate that the highest number of publications in 2021 was 25, with a significant increasing trend since 2018. Dominant keywords include children, motor skills, physical activity, and outdoor play, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of health, education, and the environment. Influential authors and publications have largely focused on the importance of social and environmental factors on children's physical activity (Brown et al., 2009, Xue et al., 2007, and Boldemann et al., 2006). Research collaboration is strongest in developed countries such as the United States, Australia, and Canada, while contributions from developing countries remain limited. This study demonstrates that OPA has evolved into a multidisciplinary field that supports holistic child development. In practice, stronger global collaboration can be achieved through international research partnerships and shared data platforms, while local exploration should involve culturally relevant play programs and community-based interventions, particularly in developing countries, to generate context-specific evidence and inform education and health policy.
